  1. Yes, exactly. But to be clear, it was more my writer firend’s point. As I mentioned in my most recent post, this friend and I had quite the baseball conversation yesterday, and our conversation eventually segued into the overall of cheating, that some are always looking for that edge and when it starts pushing the line, action is taken. And that’s what this is. It wasn’t, as Ben pointed out many posts ago, that the Braves weren’t doing anything that others weren’t, just that they pushed it too far and too blatantly.
  2. I never said they weren’t appropriate, but that in the long run, it isn’t going to hurt the Braves as badly as it could another team given the Braves’ system, that they could absorb the blow a little better. But it is a big message to FOs nonetheless, especially with the banning of Coppellella. My conversation with this friend then segued into Joe Morgan’s statements (on steroids and the HoF) into a more general conversation of cheating and how in some way it’s always prevelant, that some are always looking for that ‘edge’ and then that edge pushes the line until it becomes a wide-spread problem when action is needed. What the Braves did was to push that line too far and MLB was, in some ways, forced to respond to activities that all teams were doing on some level.
  3. According to a writer friend of mine it wasn’t that they were doing something no other teams were doing it was the degree to which they did it and the blatant manner in which it was done that basically forced mlb to crack down and hard. Although how hard was it really. He suggested that losing those prospects won’t hurt the Braves too much in the long run but the real message is to FO personnel with Coppollella being banned. Everyone tries to find ways to cheat to get an edge until it goes too far and it can’t be avoided anymore.
  4. Light dinner or not, your stomach will still only hold so much. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
  5. While many of you will likely say, ‘Who’s that?’, this is a huge loss. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/22/arts/music/dmitri-hvorostovsky-dead.html https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8WroPnHBTg&app=desktop "Farewell, happiness, my life, I know you go around without me It means we must part; I won't see you any more Dark little night! Ah, but I can not sleep! I myself don't know why You, dear little girl, ... You alone disturb me, You alone deprived me of rest. (refrain; Dark etc) Remember, remember that May day, My dear one and I went to swim. We sat on the sand, On the yellow, the soft sand. Dark little night! Ah, but I can not sleep..."
  6. Well ... I had my first near-fail baking experience ever. First, I ruined the first crust in a very stupid kitchen incident. Then I didn't have quite enough ginger snaps to make a new crust, so I improvised and used some Biscoff cookies to fill out the quantity of crumbs I needed. Then, I didn't check while it was baking so didn't see that the top was getting a bit too done. Sigh! Fortunately friends offered a quick fix for me ... just peel off the little bit of the top that is overdone ... then spread whipped topping on it so no one can see the 'mistake.' Man ... I hope it doesn't taste like a fail!
  7. It sounds good. I haven't had really good lefse in a long time. My aunt used to make large batches of it every year. Since she moved away and is now deceased, it's been a long time. I regret never asking her to teach me how to make it! Maybe when I'm back living in the Cities I can check to see if Ingebretson's offers classes.
  8. That's not the proper way to eat lefse, but it still sounds good! (Lefse should be eaten buttered and sprinkled with brown sugar, then rolled up and eaten. But the gravy way sounds like something to try.)

  10. I forget about these things, too, until someone brings up an issue and then I remember.
  11. Deep dish pumpkin pie with a ginger snap crust ... yup, I'm making it. Yum!
  12. Right. Throw them in the path and flee.
  13. Okay, now he’s dead. https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2017/11/21/565094594/david-cassidy-singer-and-1970s-tv-heartthrob-dies-at-67?utm_source=facebook.com&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=npr&utm_term=nprnews&utm_content=2049
  14. Hey, they have lots of kitchen implements, like knives, boiling water and olive oil. That could be useful. I’m the one who’s ****ed ... not only do I have to admit watching a Hallmark Christmas movie but also have to rely on the cast to rescue me; and they will probably fall in love and marry my captors in the matter of a couple of days while singing Christmas carols and thinking life is wonderful.
  15. You've been kidnapped. The characters from the last TV show you watched are mounting a rescue. Who's coming to save you?
  16. I don't think it's a matter of having a constructive discussion on his weight that is the issue. It's when the conjecture and innuendo creep in that do nothing but paint this a problem with Sano's character that is the issue that get some posters a tad defensive, and then in turn, get other posters a tad defensive with the push back. As a poster mentioned above we don't know any actual specifics of anything regarding his diet and training ... just innuendo by local columnists that may or may not come from any specific knowledge other than their own personal conjecture. And if it comes from specific knowledge of Sano's diet and training, why not report it as such rather than just ... leave us all to speculate in a rather negative fashion which does nothing but attack Sano's character (i.e. he doesn't care, doesn't take it seriously, isn't professional, doesn't try, just wants a big payout from a big market, eats wantonly, doesn't have a good ethic ... all things I've read on this website, and all innuendo and speculation based on one thing ... that he appears overweight with no other basis of behind-the-scenes fact as to what Sano is actually doing/not doing, but since he appears overweight, it must be one of those things I just mentioned without allowing that maybe it's not and that there might be more to it than that.) Again, if you have more insight into his actual health and how he manages it, please share. But if it crosses the line into disrespect, it will get quashed. Sano is a big guy, and I get the speculation ... I live it, actually ... but just be careful about the picture you paint in the process. (Stated somewhat moderatorly. ) I will add that the year leading up to the disastrous 'experiment' of Sano in RF, I was a bit concerned with his approach from what I read. But I also acknowledged that he was young (needed to mature) and dealing with some heavy personal issues (death of a child). After that season, I liked what I heard from Sano himself on his own acknowledgement of what he needed to do. He seemed to have ... well, 'grown up' a bit, and was acknowledging that he needed to do more. It was exactly what I was hoping to hear from him, and I haven't heard differently since then. Yes, it appears he has more work ahead, but I don't know the inside of that so will just leave it at that. For now. IMHO.
  17. I tend to agree with this about his body being what it is. My concern is he doesn’t and never will have the body we want or expect for a modern era baseball player, no matter what he does and that it will shorten his career.
  18. Moderator Note: Please keep to topic and don’t side step to another tangent. If you wish to discuss scouting and ‘failed’ prospects and related decisions from past administrations, please start another thread. In this thread let’s please keep to the rule 5 draft and the resulting 40-man additions.
  19. The announcement is out who was added ... you can discuss it here.
  20. Ack, and David Cassidy, too.
  21. Charles Manson died last night.
  22. They'll blame the Democrats or everyone else but the candidates they voted for.
  23. He played elsewhere and didn't spend his entire career in Minnesota ... but the majority of it certainly.
  24. Twins ... they already have. Or do you mean who will win one next?
  25. I'm not even looking at this as a partisan thing at all. That isn't where the line is drawn for me, at least not from personal experience. And it's about damn time. I hope it's everywhere.
