Me, too ... wonder if he was on the plane, though? If he was on the plane, then no, I don't think they are completely confident but need Max for this series. Dunno. Just hoping for the best here ...

Right ... it's just kind of risky, I guess, for lack of a better way to put it. Either he's really ready to go, or they just need him to be to get past the Yankees. Because if he's only partially ready, and gets reinjured, enough so they need to replace him, he's out for the next one. So, I think they feel they need him more for this one and are betting (hoping) he stays healthy enough to survive? Not sure if I'm stating that exactly right ... I had an extra shot in my latte so my brain is kind of racing.

You know ... this really makes me want to go and get a Twinkie for lunch. But then ... ugh ... I've done that before, thinking nostalgically how great they were ... and been very, very, VERY disappointed. By the way ... does anyone know how the Twinkie came to be? Ask me if you want to know.

I am very uncomfortable with this line of talk.

If Kep can't make it through the ALDS ... what then? Is it a short enough series that that's his test? And then replace him with ... Wade (?) ... for the next run?
  6. Squirrel
But Castro is their best player behind the plate. I think you are selling what Castro gives way short.

They keep dying ... Diahann Carroll ... I remember watching her on the television series 'Julia.'

Post a photo in the game thread when you get there. Photo, or it didn't happen.

Why in the world would you want to cook the rally squirrel!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If we win this ... I would really like to see a paper in the TC do a parody on that cover and do just that. 'NY POST HAVING CROW FOR DINNER!' or some such
  11. Squirrel
Nope! This is THE THREAD of the day!

Yankees went with 12 pitchers as well. Three starters and bp help.
  13. Squirrel
They don't have enough starters that go deep. Neither Odo nor Dobnak will go deep into games (and hoping Berrios will in saying that) ... or at least they haven't ... they are going to need the BP. If we still had healthy Gibby and non-suspended Pineda, the pitching roster would have looked very different. But as I said in my post above ... I don't really know much so am just going to go with it and wait and see. And as long as we have Adrianza, Gonzalez and Arraez ... Astudillo is redundant. I think we will need the pitching more than a redundant position player.

Hmm, I'm not, not really. Sort of surprised Perez isn't on over someone else. But, they are going with 3 starters and a BP ... has Perez pitched out of the BP this year? (My memory is short.) Gibby has worked out of the BP. But ... man ... for an inning, I might have gone with Perez' left-handedness so that is surprising to me over another. Eh ... what do I know? Not much. Just going to go with it and hope for wins.

Woohoo! Playoffs, baby! And this thread is THE spot to be at game time,
  16. Squirrel
When there are 307 of them ... how do you choose just 10?

This is what I found: Teams submit a 25-man roster prior to each round of the postseason comprised of postseason-eligible players. A club may request permission from the Commissioner's Office to replace a player who is injured during the course of a series, but that player is then ineligible for the rest of that round and the subsequent round, if there is one. A pitcher may be replaced only by another pitcher, and a position player only by another position player. Teams carry extra players throughout the postseason in the event of injuries, and those players, as well as players on the injured list, can be in the dugout during games, within reason.

    Who's getting excited????

I thought Game 1 was Berrios, I thought that was already a given. As for the rest of the roster, I thought I read elsewhere that the ALDS roster didn't need to be set until 10am Friday ... so I'm sure they brought extras with them who will be around but not on the roster? Possibly? And I think they will wait until the last minute to set the roster for the ALDS because of injuries, giving everyone every possible minute to be ready.

Well, let’s not get carried away here.

Tampa for me. I have a nephew at the game. He’s cheering on the A’s, which makes sense ... he now lives in Oakland, and he’s a Red Sox fan.

Paying for cable is part of my assessments, so, I pay for cable and haven't 'cut the cord' yet, because I'm not going to pay for a service and not use it. And being out of market, I pay for the 'extra innings' package (including MLBN) because I get no local coverage of the Twins. I've often bemoaned the fact that I don't get the post-game stuff because, waaaaa, out of market, no local coverage. This is the one and only time it pays off for me. (Sorry, I'm not gloating, I'm just, sigh, finally, able to have a benefit for this.) But that said, I still wish I were 'local' because I would have people to share the fun with instead of, well, no one here, because their teams are done, and they've moved onto football ... and grrrr, the Bears.

Some of my Cubs fan friends are predicting David Ross will be the new Cubs manager.

    RIP Jessye Norman. Sad day.

Wish I could join. But for those who can’t attend, and want to watch in the company of others, there will be game threads to participate for each game. But of course!
