  1. The way I look at it, this contract is the median between Buxton’s ability to be a super star and his injury risk. It’s very team friendly, yet gives comfort and stability to Buxton. It was always going to be difficult finding that happy median for everyone involved and I think that’s what they did. I mean, if there were no injury history, Buxton would probably be able to command twice what he got. And there would still be no guarantee that something wouldn’t happen and we likely wouldn’t have been able to sign him, let alone room for another good signing, So what we are seeing is the compromise. I think it’s a very smart deal the FO made and one Buxton is happy with. And one this fan is happy with, too.
  2. I’ll get excited if it’s a done deal. BUT, if it becomes a done deal, i definitely take SWR, Martin and Ray over Berrios.
  3. You make very valid points. But I think that people just want to enjoy the here and now for today and not do the deep dive about down the road and all the what ifs of value. You should take this post and create a blog.
  4. Um, this is confusing. You jump from Kluber going to the Rays to who the Marlins signed. Who did Miami get?
  5. Well, neither are going to 'pan out' this year ... we still need a SS. Polance won't be moved off 2nd, so ... we will need someone
  6. Lol ... this time of year, you can find that quite a few places
  7. I guess Roxy was the tipping point to getting this done ...
  8. Thanks, @cHawk ... patience was a virtue in this case
  9. And the winners are: H2H Debater A: @Vanimal46 H2H Debater B: @Danchat Thank both participants for an excellent debate ... it ends in a tie game! And in this instance, we don't come back starting with a runner on 2nd ... Well done, you two! (Poll is now closed, but the thread remains active for further discussion.) Look for our next debate, the Buxton trade debate, to start on Monday! And, as always, if you want to participate in a debate and/or have any debate topics in mind, please email @Otto von Ballpark or @Squirrel.
  10. Miranda is also (probably) a utility infielder, like Arraez. While he played at 3rd a bit more than other positions last year, he also played quite a bit at 2nd, and some at 1st with a sprinkling of SS and LF. Even Miranda himself has said 2nd base is the position he likes best. So, yes, he is the duplicate of Arraez. A different kind of hitter, but no real position. He is nowhere near a replacement for Donaldson's defense at 3rd.
  11. This debate is now concluded and open for public comment. Don't forget to vote in our 'Who was most persuasive?' poll. And a big thank you and virtual round of applause for our two debaters, who did an awesome job! ??? I am thankful for both posters' participation! If anyone is interested in being a debate participant, please contact @Otto von Ballpark or @Squirrel. Posters will be revealed after the poll closes, so keep an eye out here.
  12. Haven’t we already learned something that it’s not already a done deal?
  13. That’s an interesting list, of course it’s too early to know for sure beyond the 2-3 that you could say right now are ‘for sures.’ You could also have titled this ‘10 to watch in the 2022 season.’
  14. tomato, tomato ... let's call the whole thing off
  15. You said Dodgers, he said Angels ...
  16. Winder pitched over 100 innings his first 2 yrs in the Twins system, and you don't think that's a huge difference, where Ober had never gone over 80? While I think they will limit Winder, especially early in the season, I expect he can/will handle more than Ober did this past season. As I said, we are one more year removed from the lost MiL season, pitchers should do more this year. I get the caution that was used in this past season because they didn't pitch at all in 2020, but this will be 2022 ... Winder already had way more innings under his belt than Ober. And, if he hadn't been shut down this past season, he may have made it up to the Majors already. I think there is a huge difference, here.
  17. Why should they be on the same inning count as Ober? While they are likely to be careful, we are a year removed from MiL pitchers not pitching, like Ober was last year, not to mention the numbers of IP was significantly lower
  18. What trades do you want to see? And don't say Donaldson ... If Winder hadn't been shut down last year, we would have seen him, imo. I think he has a better chance to make the opening day lineup than Miranda. But ... it all depends ...
  19. There hasn't been an 'official reveal' on this debate yet as we are still waiting to hear from Poster A whether or not they want to reveal themselves. Brock just went ahead and revealed himself as Poster B. Since this is only the 2nd debate, we're still figuring out some of these finer details, so your suggestion is a good one and we will find a way to do this so it isn't buried in thread. For the first debate, we just revealed the participants at the end of the thread, but that thread didn't garner quite the same response as this one, so, revealing in this thread would definitely get lost where it didn't in that one, so we will find a way so it's not. Thanks for the suggestion. And, if you want to participate, please let us know.
  20. This wasn't about being on the opening day roster, because I don't think any of them will. Miranda, maybe, but only if they trade Arraez, imo. One of the pitchers could, but maybe in the bp. But which will be the first to appear with the Twins. I think the pitchers have a better chance of that, tbh, unless, as I said, they trade Arraez and Miranda will slot into his role
  21. Of the 6, I really think this is a 'competition' between three (Sands, Winder and Miranda), but I'm putting them all in. Most will likely say Miranda, but that could depend on a lot of things, because where he plays plays, I'm not sure there's room right now. Someone would need to be traded or someone would have to get injured, and I don't want to predict that. With pitching being our greatest need (imo), there could be more opportunities for a pitcher to get the first call, or even head north with the team. What are your thoughts?
  22. Back to the topic question ... It's not an easy question to answer, because I want to see who that $20million is spent on. If it's an impact pitcher or position player, then yes, absolutely would rather have that. But if it is Martin and W-R along with a couple of Happs or Shoemakers? Then no. I want to see the plan laid out before I can say this was worth it, even though I think trading Berrios was the right thing to do, especially now since it looks like he truly didn't want to sign with MN. If to replace Berrios, they find an equivalence, absolutely. Sorry if that's too much of a 'they won't spend it answer' ... but really it's a 'depends on who they spend it on' answer.
