    I remember being at a game in 1986 and after the 3rd out, the catcher threw the ball to the pitcher and the pitcher walked off the field with it and tossed it up to me. That pitcher was Blyleven 🙂

    I think the question is not the lineup but who gets sent down when these people return. So who gets sent down in place of Kep? Gallo? Polanco? AK? When they all are done with their IL/rehab stints?

    Yeah, the 'down' team ... 8 is too few, imo.

    Yeah, okay ... was quickly posting irritation and this sets it back. However, I still don't like the position players pitching thing. I mean, the lead wasn't in double digits at that time, not sure if the rules stipulate anything, but I'd set it at 15 runs, you can pitch who want ... baseball's version of a 15-run rule.

    Yeah ... I'm not at all concerned it's not Ober. Ober will get his chances. It's not likely no one will go on the IL, although I'm not hoping for that. But Ober will get that call, especially if it's something that requires more than 10 days. But giving Maeda some extra time here and there is good, and glad, for a change, they have the depth to do that as you pointed out.

    Well, you may still jump, but I don't think this is a bad thing ... at least not yet. I'm taking it at face value and I could be wrong to do so, but I'm not going to invent new things to worry about when there are already things to worry about. :)

    This is reasonable and what I think they are doing. Winder is doing rehab now (I think) so that won't be long. And Megill, after a poor first start has been reasonably okay, but can be used in the same way Sands was. So, they have options there.

    This brings up an annoyance for me ... position players pitching. Yeah, it's kind of a novelty and sometimes we all get a kick out of it. BUT ... I think that is something that should be limited. If you've already given up that you are putting in a position player to pitch, just concede and let everyone go home early. Seriously. You want to save your BP for tomorrow? Good ... concede the game and go home. Unless a player is listed specifically as a two-way player (and there are rules to get that designation), put out a pitcher to pitch or concede.

    Why are you calling this a 'throw away' game? You act as if the Twins are intentionally trying to lose. That's just not the case. And Varland did well against the Yankees last year. The Twins can't win every game, but it's hardly a throw away game. Edit to add: And as a moderator, please stop referring to players as babies.

    They want keep Ober stretched out as a starter going longer than 3 innings so when they need him, and they will, he's ready. Remember, Maeda didn't pitch at all last year, so giving him some extra rest is a good thing right now. And, he has been pretty good so far.

    From what I’m reading in various spots it sounds like the Twins had always planned to insert another starter into the mix because there are so few rest days, as you pointed out.

    I thinking López was always pitching Sunday and he’s still pitching Sunday. Just skipping Maeda and pushing Mahle back a day to give Varland the start tomorrow.

    Nothing as far as I can tell. Just want to give Maeda some extra rest without having to IL him. Remember he was out all last season, so I don’t think it’s cause for alarm. This also gives Mahle an extra day, and Lopez will pitch in his regular slot. Also reading that Maeda may pitch in Boston.

    So, apparently Varland starting tomorrow, with Mahle Saturday and PLopez on Sunday. Skipping a Maeda start to give him more rest. I have seen yet what the corresponding move is, but I assume Sands down.

    It’s one of the Tuesday deals and usually only good for a week right before the start of the season, so if you didn’t get it this year it won’t be available again until next year
