  1. I had the game on but wasn't following closely. Does anyone else know why Santana was pulled after 7 Innings when he was only at 91 pitches?
  2. Do you have some behind the scenes knowledge of how Dozier acts in the clubhouse that nobody else knows about? If he feels comfortable hitting leadoff why would it be bad for him to want to hit there - clearly he's had success? Some players aren't meant to hit in the middle of the order and some thrive there. Accusing him of not preparing enough in the offseason - again do you have any proof that he is out of shape coming into the season? Do you have any proof that he doesn't work with the younger players? I haven't seen one negative article about Dozier since he's been a Twins player. Lastly, I highly doubt he was the only player in the clubhouse that was upset the FO traded away a couple of players who were having good seasons. I mean who wouldn't be upset about that since they're in the middle of pushing for the playoffs. I just feel like if you're going to make these claims you should back them up with some actual proof other than a hunch.
  3. I don't know about everyone else but I'd sure take another start from Gee based on how he's pitched in the bullpen this season and his start last night.
  4. https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/tigers-ian-kinsler-reportedly-receives-massive-fine-for-comments-about-umpire/ Here is an update. He was fined $10,000 which is less than I expected for his punishment. I assumed he would have been suspended for at least a game.
  5. I think you need to take those doomtints off and rewatch the first 118 games of the season. Not only has Mauer been exceptional at first base on the balls hit to his area but he has also saved 10, 15 and maybe even more errors from the players on the left side of the infield by how good he is at scooping the short hops. He really should win a gold glove but won't because he isn't putting up the offensive production of other 1st basemen.
  6. I think it's about time to sit Sano for a game or two just to give him a mental break.
  7. It looks like Enns won't be pitching during the double header. I'm assuming Slegers gets sent back down after the game today and they call up another AAA pitcher. Maybe a Gonsalves promotion?
  8. http://www.freep.com/story/sports/mlb/tigers/2017/08/15/detroit-tigers-ian-kinsler-umpire-angel-hernandez/571202001/ You don't see a player go into this must depth very often and it's pretty refreshing to be honest. Kinsler is definitely not the only player, coach or fan that thinks Hernandez is an awful ump. It'll be interesting to see how much Kinsler is suspended for this, but also to see if any change does come as well.
  9. It sounds like Perkins is in MN but might still be sent to Rochester for a couple of games.
  10. Not sure how seriously you can take a site when they don't label a player's position correctly, especially when he was the 1st overall pick in the most recent draft. I get it that some people don't see him sticking at SS, but you need to label his position correctly since he's only played SS in his career so far. If they labeled him a CF on purpose then they should at least mention that in the writeup.
  11. I wasn't really sure where to put this but I thought it was a good article on Sano and some of his tragedies and triumphs he's gone through in his career so far.
  12. I'm definitely still a Vikings fan, however the Twins and Wild are the teams that I watch most. I have the NHL.tv and MLB.tv app to be able to watch them, but I won't buy any packages to watch the Vikings. I just moved from SF (lived there for two years) to NY and I feel like this has played into me not paying attention to the Vikings as much as I used to. SF, to me, just isn't a sports town. People are really excited about the Warriors and the Giants but it's only because they've been good for the last 6 - 7 years. It's pretty obvious a lot of the fans there are very much bandwagon fans. So, we'll see if I start watching more football again now that I live in NY. I'd agree with a lot of what people said above as reasons my interest has decreased. Since I just moved to NY there will be a lot of exploring that I'll want to do and I don't want to waste my Sunday afternoons sitting in front of my TV. I still play FF and probably will continue but the reasons for me are probably different than most. I use it to stay connected with friends I have back in MN as there's consistently friendly banter that goes back and forth and I'm just a competitive person. I believe football will be basically nonexistent by 2050 and I've been saying this for the last 5 to 6 years. With the information that is coming out about CTE and the number of former players who have killed themselves recently I just don't see how football can survive. More and more players are retiring at an earlier age and I believe less kids are signing up for youth football. When I have kids I definitely won't sign them up or let them play as the injury risk is too great.
  13. Never heard of this but here is a breakdown: https://www.epainassist.com/sports-injuries/arm-and-elbow-injuries/brachialis-pain https://secure.familyhealthtracker.com/deliver.aspx?s=lg&t=di&l=en&f=%7Bb2574e3d-7051-4e18-b1fe-ebc6e9318aad%7D&key=26dd85c28d515a89bff6d8625ddf298a
  14. I just don't get this. What does Garver need to do to get a chance up here.
  15. Only got 60%... I'm pretty embarrassed by that number. I forgot Plouffe and Centeno as the position players. Duffey, Santiago, Kintzler, May Boshers, Pressly, Tonkin and Milone as the pitchers.
  16. Back to back good starts are nice to see even if they're against the Padres.
  17. Yup, and additions and subtractions happen in season every year. If injuries happen to players with larger contracts and they're being paid by insurance that would allow the FO to make trades for players with larger contacts.
  18. It's not a side bar at all? If the two injured players mentioned, who have larger contracts, are being paid by insurance that to me would mean the actual payroll is significantly lower. And just as Gunnarthor stated that might have been why the Pohlad's were willing to eat most of Garcia's contract. So, it does in fact come into play when talking about the total payroll. Edit: Plus we aren't talking about every other team. We're talking about the cheap a$$ Pohlads, so any money gained via insurance is a really big deal.
  19. I mean technically it's $108 million but you'd have to assume some of these injured players making money are all being paid by insurance. I'm mainly referring to Perkins and Hughes. I doubt the Pohlad's are paying for either of those contacts this season, so it's probably a lot closer to $90 to $95 million they're actually paying.
  20. You'd have to figure the Pohlad's will let them spend more than this season. Maybe that's wishful thinking, but they need to increase the payroll to at least $115 million next season. They might be able to convince the owners to have the one year increase knowing Mauer's $23 million will be coming off the books the next season.
  21. I'd say Santana is a much better overall hitter. His OPS is nearly 50 points higher and he has 43 XBH this season compared to Grossman's 22. The only reason I threw Seth Smith's name out there was because of the difficulty of finding a RH power bat that won't cost $15 + million.
  22. I don't think anything needs to happen in CF. Buxton has less than 700 PA in the MLB and other than the first 15 games of the season is doing fine. He needs to get his SLG % into the .400's, which in turn will increase his OPS into the mid .700s Carlos Santana to me would be the best option. He's going to get a decent contract, probably 3 years at $8 - $10 million per, is a switch hitter and can play some 1st base in a pinch. But what about Seth Smith? He's a lefty but has put up solid numbers and would be a cheaper option, which would allow the FO to spend more money on the pitching staff. There are a lot of left handed RF / 1B / DH but I'd assume they will all get $15 million plus a season. Those players include Hosmer, Mouse, JD, Alonso, Morrison and Bruce
  23. I'd rather them spend the money it's going to take to get Moustakas on pitching. There is no way the FO is going to go get a top quality pitcher plus spending 15 to 20 million a season on a position player. I also don't understand trading Buxton either. Watching Granite out in CF the last two weeks makes it clear how much Buxton does on defense and no other player in the MLB comes close. Lorenzo Cain is going to be 32 at the start of next season. Do you really want to sign him to a 3 to 5 year deal on the decline of his career?
