  1. I agree with this 1000%. The Twins have been operating well below the supposedly spend 50% of the revenue on payroll shtick for the last 5 or 6 seasons. If the Twins were serious about contending and not cheap they could easily go over 50% of revenue for the next few seasons. Time will tell, but I won't be holding my breath.
  2. I'd rather have Darvish for sure. The Twins need a top of the rotation starter and that's what Darvish is. If the Twins make it to the playoffs again I don't want Santana to be the pitcher matching up against other teams number 1's.
  3. Why would he ever do that and why would you think he isn't a decent people if he didn't? That makes zero sense. He was drafted back in 2013 and has by all accounts put every effort to becoming a professional baseball player. Minor league baseball players get paid like sh*t while in the minor leagues, so it's not like he got paid a big bonus and is also making a ton of money off the Twins for just playing baseball. I could understand the Twins wanting the money back if he was drafted this year in 2017 and now decided to quit but he was drafted five years ago. Lastly, the Pohlad's are loaded and have always gone the cheap route so it's not like they would need the money back.
  4. What's the point of playing the games this season or even paying attention as a fan if they don't make a serious move to make the rotation better. Going into the 2017 playoffs the Twins were clearly, CLEARLY not as good as the Indians, Astros, Yankees and Red Sox. The Astros and Yankees have made moves to improve their teams. All signs point to the Red Sox signing JD Martinez. The Indians are probably the only team that has really lost players - which was from their bullpen. The only area the Twins have improved so far is their bullpen, but we all know it's the starting rotation that's going to matter once the season and then playoffs start.
  5. Yea that's why I feel like whoever his "source" is you have to take what they said with a grain of salt because I wouldn't want Arrieta for the amount of money he wants. He's probably 4th on the list of FA pitchers.
  6. Every year teams are going to have to overpay for free agents....that's just the name of the game. If the Twins go into the season with Santana and Berrios and then 3 spots up for grabs they're completely shooting themselves in the foot from the get go. Even if they sign one free agent they still have plenty of flexibility because there will be injuries - there always is and Gibson and Mejia have been been good and bad in the MLB. Absolutely no reason to hand two rotation spots to rookies who haven't earned anything.
  7. I feel like we have to take this with a grain of salt because they also said this.
  8. The reason the Twins don't do this is because they actually want to win this year. Having a rotation of Santana, Berrios, Gibson, Gonsalves and Romero is a disaster waiting to happen. You don't put two rookies in the rotation to start a season when you have a legit chance, at least on paper, to make a run in the playoffs. Especially when those two rookies have a combined grand total of 5 starts at AAA. Also, as the Romero article that was just posted mentioned he's going to be on an innings limit this season of ~ 140. It's much easier to manage those innings in the minor leagues than it is in the MLB. There is ZERO reason to not spend money on one of the FA pitchers this offseason as long as the contract they hand out isn't 6 or 7 years. The Twins have plenty of money to spend before they hit their internal salary cap and barely have any players signed past this season.
  9. It'll be an exciting year if he can make it to the MLB. The AAA pitching staff should be very good this season with him, Slegers, Gonsalves and Jorge.
  10. They need to figure out the QB position first and foremost because Keenum proved he isn't a franchise QB. Brees, Cousins and Garoppolo are all free agents this offseason. Brees and Garoppolo will both likely resign with the teams they're on but Cousins might make it to free agency. The other name who might be available is Alex Smith. The Vikings also need to draft an OL and DL in with their top 3 picks because both of those areas need to be improved. Keenum wasn't sacked a ton this season, but I feel like that had more to do with him being a mobile QB who was able to move around in the pocket and avoid sacks vs the OL actually protecting him. The DL got zero push and pressure on Foles in yesterday's game. If the Vikings can figure out those areas they should be in good shape.
  11. I'd add two plays to the Wild's section. Both happened in Round 1 of the 2014 playoffs against Colorado with them being the number 1 seed and the Wild being the 8th. 1. With the Wild down 2 - 0 in the series Granlund diving across the crease to score in overtime to give the Wild a 1 - 0 win. 2. With the series tied at 3 Niederreiter scoring on a 2 vs 1 in overtime to win the series.
  12. I mean if you're going to talk about seeing a player play a full season lets throw Sano into that category as well. He played in only 80 games in 2015 after his call up, then only 116 in his first full season in 2016 and only 114 in 2017. I don't understand why you would want to extend Sano since he can't stay on the field but not extend Buxton.
  13. Has there ever been a time where top players aren't signed by the time players are supposed to report for spring training?
  14. This article has basically zero facts other than the two sides haven't met. It's all speculation at this point to try and get clicks. I don't even think there are any rumors out there that an offer has been made from any team. Seems like if he wants to sign with MN he has every opportunity to visit. I also highly doubt the Twins are only focusing on Darvish at this point. I feel like it's even been reported that they have at least called on the other big three starting pitchers. The other three won't sign until Darvish anyways.
  15. I was at the game last night. The team basically didn't put in any effort last night until about 6 or 7 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. A ton of bad passes, bad shots, missed lay ups and lazy defense the first half.
  16. This has to be one of the slowest offseason EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. I'd try to get him signed to a 3 year contract worth $45 million with an option year for an additional $15 mil and a buyout. I don't think I'd go more than 4 years total because he'll be 36 - 37 by that 5th year.
  18. https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/twins-star-miguel-sano-has-been-accused-of-sexual-assault-by-a-female-photographer/ Here is a good run down of everything.
  19. You would think since this happened at Ridgedale Shopping Center there would be cameras everywhere. Since this happened in 2015 you don't know how long they would store videos recordings though.
  20. Chapman was suspended by the league for 30 games back in 2015 I believe for offseason personal conduct policy violation for domestic abuse. The Twins could use that as a base.
  21. I had actually just saw this on Twitter and was going to post it when I got back to my desk. Obviously only one side of the story has come out so far but it definitely doesn't look good for Sano. The Twins must take this very seriously and if there is any evidence then he needs to be suspended for a number of games. Like you mentioned it will be more difficult to root for him if this is true.
  22. Well then yes, I agree with everything you said.
  23. I agree with basically everything you've said except for the fact that the Yankee's have traded for Stanton and the Giant's just traded for Longoria. He's probably not a star anymore but still a good player.
  24. If Ohtani doesn't pitch next season who are their other pitchers? Garrett Richards has only pitched in 12 total games over the last 2 seasons. I'd also take the Twins offense over the Angels. Mauer, Dozier, Sano/Escobar and Kepler are better than their counter parts. I'll give them Simmons, Upton and Trout. DH is a toss up at this point and it might lean the Twins way if Sano ends up spending a significant portion of the season there. Pujols is pretty washed up. < .290 OBP% and < .390 SLG% last season.
