  1. I really don't understand fans who are being negative about this signing. It's almost a certainty that the Twins will take out insurance on him because he's coming back from TJ surgery, which will basically make the cost zero if he doesn't ever fully recover. He could very well be a relief pitcher for the Twins come September and into the playoffs if they make it there. He'll be 14 months removed from surgery by September and then by the time the next season starts in April he'll be ~ 21 months removed from surgery. This signing isn't going to hurt the Twins in 2019 from going out and signing other players.
  2. There is no downside to this move because it's only two years and very low money. This is a low risk high reward signing.
  3. There is absolutely zero reason to not bring in a legit closer or at least someone with 8th inning stuff. The Twins have plenty of money to spend and plenty of payroll availability. They have a ton of money coming off the books and none of their young players are going to be paid for 3 or 4 years, which is exactly how long they would need to sign a top reliever.
  4. That's probably a bit light on what it would take to get a Boras client to sign an extension. Probably closer to 4 years for $60mil.
  5. I wouldn't want to see the Twins actively shopping Kepler or Rosario as the Twins don't have a replacement ready to come up and fill in the position. (Granite is not a starting OF option - he's at best a 4th outfielder). Wade is a solid prospect but he hasn't played above AA yet, so he wouldn't be ready to come up until at least mid season. I also don't understand trading Garver either, as the Twins don't have another option for catcher anywhere near major league ready. Rortvedt played at Low A this season and he's the only catching prospect the Twins have. If the Twins are going to make trades they need to trade away from the middle infield depth and also the starters they have at AA and AAA that all project to be 3 - 5 starters in a rotation.
  6. Do the Yankees still go after the big free agents next offseason or does this take them out of the running?
  7. Are there any penalties for using some of next years allotment? If there isn't couldn't they continue to use future money every year?
  8. How does using some of next year's pool money this year effect next year?
  9. I thought he wanted to go to a young and upcoming team?? If that was the case why would you pick the Angels?
  10. If they don't buy this offseason then yes absolutely the FO has missed an opportunity to really change the direction of this franchise.
  11. Can you give some examples? All of your posts have stated the Twins have missed out on international talent. What talent are you talking about? Ohtani wants to be on the West Coast, so there really wasn't anything the Twins could do there. The Twins offered more money to Kevin Maitan but he signed with the Angels because the Twins have 3 or 4 legit prospects at SS in the minors. Again, not something the Twins could do there. What other international prospects that are "great" have the Twins missed on?
  12. Neither is a handful of people on here speculating the Twins are being shady with ZERO evidence.
  13. May shouldn't even be in the equation for the start of the season rotation. If I were the Twins I'd let him know that he's going into the season as a starting option so that he prepared to be a starter but I would also let him know that he's probably going to start the season on the DL or in AAA so he can build up his arm strength. The Twins can't afford to waste games at the start of the season with his "try outs".
  14. I agree. I don't believe Dubnyk is as good as the top tier goalies in the league and it's more obvious this season than the past 3 he's been here. Dubnyk is as good as the defense plays in front of him. The Wild forwards aren't as good this season as they were last season and obviously our defensemen are worse as well. Losing both Haula and Pommer from the forwards hurts a lot because they were sound two way players and were responsible. They weren't flashy on offense but they were solid. Stewart and Foligno are the same crappy player that isn't responsible on the defensive side and Quincy, Reilly and Olofsson are all bad or at least inconsistent on the defense side of things. All of these moves have exposed Dubnyk for the mediocre inconsistent goalie that he is.
  15. The Wild had that second most points in the Western Conference last season and they completely dominated the series against the Blues. They didn't lose because they weren't as talented. They lost because Jake Allen was the best goalie on the planet and completely stood on his head. It also didn't help that our best player (Granlund) broke his wrist in the first game of the series.
  16. That's absolutely false. Koivu does so much for this team that doesn't show up in the stat sheet. Also, for the points that he puts up he is right in line with what the going rate is. The top players in the league are now making $12M a season and next season his CAP hit will be $5.5M. His contract is not a problem for his production. Edit : The main problem the Wild have run into is trading away so many draft picks. Also, I really feel like Fletcher butchered the expansion draft last year. Losing Haula and Tuch will hurt going forward. Tuch is going to be a really good player for the years to come.
  17. In my opinion the Wild need to try and get out from under the Ennis contract and Reilly. Ennis is making $4.6M this season and next and Reilly $725,000. With Vanek's buyout coming off the books next season and if they can get rid of Ennis and Reilly they would have ~ $19M in CAP space. They will have to resign Zucker and Dumba. Zucker will get a large raise to probably ~ $5.5M but the way Dumba is playing he probably won't increase much higher than the $2.55M he's making right now. Let's put him at ~ $3.5M. With those changes the Wild would still have just north of $9M in CAP space. They would have 8 fwds under contract, 5 def and 2 goalies. Add in Kunin ($925,000) and Ek ($894,167). They would then have $7,966,409 in CAP space and need 3 fwds and 2 def.
  18. Wait...you want to give up on Ek after 35 total games played in the NHL? Nino, Coyle, Gradlund, Zucker, Brodin and Spurgeon would all fetch 1st round picks / young players with high upside if the Wild went into a true rebuild and started selling off players.
  19. Yea sure. Stay in Miami and lose your entire career or go to a team on the rise and have a chance to play in the playoffs... seems like an easy choice to me. Since he's been in the MLB the Marlins haven't finished higher than 3rd in the NL East and they don't look like a team that will be making it anytime soon. Sure, some players are fine just collecting a paycheck but most want to play on a team that year over year has a chance at the playoffs. Also, so he would be in MN during the Spring, Summer and early Fall. Hardly a terrible time to be there and then he has the entire Winter off to go do whatever he wants in South Beach. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Twins don't send the superstars on the winter caravan they send the rookies, 1st and 2nd year players along with the Kyle Gibsons of the world. They don't send Dozier (now that he's good), Mauer or Santana's on the team so that's hardly a legit reason.
  20. I don't understand the sentiment to wait until next offseason to make the move and sign a top tier starting pitcher. The Twins are finally in a win NOW position. Basically all of the position players are locked in young and cheap (besides a DH/1B backup), they have a couple of solid 2 - 3ish pitchers in Santana and Berries with a couple of young pitchers that will be in AAA this year and some solid young bullpen guys that debuted this season. There is no reason what so ever to not go after at least one legit starting and one legit relief pitcher this offseason...NONE. Plus they have should have plenty of payroll if they actually spend 50 - 52% of revenue. Mauer's large contract is off the books after this season as well. Signing a couple of legit pitchers this offseason shouldn't hurt the Twins from making moves at the deadline or next offseason.
