  1. Just curious - do you have a link to this article? I missed it and would like to read it.
  2. I couldn't agree with this more. I consider my self a "true" baseball fan as some of you call it. I love watching the game and there is nothing better than playoff baseball. I love the intricacies of the game and looking deeper at the stats. While a lot of casual baseball fans don't love low scoring pitching duels I could watch pitchers go for no hit bids all day long. The pressure on them and the potential for any one pitch the become a hit is as exciting as it gets. I grew up as a kid dreaming of being up in the ninth inning with runners on and two outs but like was mentioned above no 9 INNING GAME SHOULD EVER BE 4 AND A HALF HOURS. The last 2 or 3 innings were exciting but it shouldn't take almost 3 hours to complete those innings. So, if you think that doesn't make me a "true" baseball fan than you don't have a clue what you're taking about. I'm as big of an advocate for the game of baseball as anyone and defend it and try to persuade non baseball fans all the time how good of a game it truly is. But a 4 and a half hour game isn't good baseball. Parts of it are good but the overall product isn't. Too many stoppages for commercials, too many stoppages for pitching games, too many stoppages for replay and just overall too long of a game. Game 5 of the Cubs Giants series is a perfect example. 5 pitching changes in the top half of the ninth inning to get 3 outs is insane because of the slow trips to the mound, discuss for a few seconds, then signal for the next reliever who you already know is going to come in. All this leads to too many commercials after every pitching change.
  3. Putting her gender a side - she really is bad and doesn't offer anything to the broadcast. I turned the volume down last night because I couldn't stand listening to her.
  4. I agree Nolasco has control over his pitches, how often and when he throws them but it's also the pitching coach's job to get the most out of all the pitchers. It could also just be he's having a good couple of months and next year he'll revert back to what he's been.
  5. Here is an article with quotes from Nolasco basically stating the pitching coach from the Angels did what the Twins pitching coach couldn't. I'm really hoping Molitor is gone next season along with the entire pitching staff. With a new front office we can only hope they bring in a new coaching staff as well. http://www.ocregister.com/articles/angels-730373-scng-final.html
  6. I'm just glad it's someone from outside the organization!
  7. For the record I don't like LMFAO at all. I honestly have no idea why I picked this username other than it was easy to remember. This is my username on the Strib that I used before I found this amazing news source for Twins information.
  8. Sign Jason McLeod as the President of Baseball Operations and Derek Falvey as the GM. It would be a promotion for both. McLeod has the experience you'd want for the POBO and Falvey is a young and upcoming Assistant GM that could step into the larger role of GM.
  9. I look at it as you described him as a middle of the rotation player who maybe has a chance to be better. I'm not sure I'd take that as a compliment if I was Gonsalves. As for Jay you just stated that you're biased because you didn't like the pick to begin with. "Jay was a gamble. With the sixth pick in last June's draft, the Twins took the Illinois closer just ahead of Andrew Benintendi, who is currently batting .350 for the Red Sox, and Carson Fulmer, who mowed through the minors and has been on the White Sox roster for a month. Rather than go after the dynamic offensive talent or the established collegiate starter, the Twins decided to pick Jay with hopes he could successfully transition into a rotation piece. The results, thus far, have not been great." "At the very least, this looks like it is going to be an extended project. Meanwhile, the players that Minnesota passed up to select Jay have rocketed to the big leagues and are already auditioning for prominent roles in 2017. Not ideal." You make it sound like the two players drafted after him are already "lightly it up" when in actuality the one has been sent back down and the other has a whopping total of 41 ABs.
  10. Talk about a debbie downer, my god. What does Gonsalves have to do to be thought of as a number 1 or 2 in a rotation? Tyler Jay is in what his first full season of pro ball and his first real season of starting and you're basically calling him a bust. Andrew Benintendi has 33 at bats - let's wait and see how he does the rest of the season and into next season before we hail him the greatest thing since sliced bread. Have we already forgot what happened to Santana, Vargas and Rosario after their success when they were first called up. Felix Jorge has dominated every level he's pitched at and is only 22 years old. Lets see how these guys all finish the season. This crop of pitching is by far the best group the Twins have ever had coming up together.
  11. So who do you suggest the Twins go after? I don't want to overspend on any of the FA's and to trade for a MLB ready Ace (i.e. Chris Sale type pitcher) is going to require multiple top 10 prospects and then a few others in the top 30. I just don't see a point in doing that when the Twins still have a lot of growing pains they're going to go through next season. As many people have pointed out they aren't a SP and C away from contending. If the Twins can get adequate pitching next year, with an improving offense, what looks like an improving bullpen (Chagois and Hildenberger) and improving defense they should be a fringe playoff chase team. Plus by the trade deadline next season they should have a better understanding of the timeline for the 4 pitchers at AA. Maybe one of them is ready down the stretch or maybe you realize you can trade one of them for a pitcher at the trade deadline. I feel like the offseason after 2017 is when the Twins should make a splash for pitching or whatever positions they need to fill. The team will still be very young and on the verge of entering their prime.
  12. I couldn't agree more with this and it's why for the most part I think the Twins should stand pat this offseason. The FA pool is really bad this year for starting pitching and catching. I'd try and sign one of the FA's to a 1 year deal to give Garver, Stuart and Murphy more time at either AA or AAA. I'd go into next season with the following rotation: 1. Berrios 2. Santana 3. Gibson 4. Santiago 5. Duffey, Mejia or someone else. It has the makings of a solid rotation - definitely not great but solid. Like many other people have mentioned there are also 4 very good prospects that have moved up to AA and are having some success. I'd like to see what these 4 prospects have to offer the rest of the season and next season before I'd make a splash and try to find the Ace for the staff. Who knows maybe Berrios and 1 of these guys turns into that Ace.
  13. I don't understand the desire to trade Santana. He's a middle of the order pitcher, who can have some brilliant games, and doesn't cost very much. The FA pool after this season is AWFUL I mean dead awful. The Twins could go into next season with the following rotation and it wouldn't be half bad: 1. Berrios 2. Santana 3. Gibson 4. May 5. Duffey / Hughes / someone from AAA or maybe a free agent they sign for 1 season. Down at AA there are 4 very good prospects in Gonsalves, Jorge, Stewart and Jay. Depending on how they finish the season they all will most likely start next year at AA and move up to AAA or by the end of the season get a couple of starts with the Twins. There is no reason to trade Santana since they aren't going to get anything of real value and there isn't a good pitcher in FA this off season. By the time the above prospects are ready there should be plenty of room in the rotation.
  14. This move does little for me either way. I'm assuming this is to show him off to other teams to try and trade him. I'd like Chargois up but I'm not going to get worked up about it. Once the trade deadline passes, which is only a week and a half away, and the moves have been made or not made I'll be more opinionated.
  15. This is something I don't understand. Molitor hasn't done anything to prove he's the right man for the job and his position should be up to the new GM. The Pohlad's are going to scare away potential GM's by putting rules in place.
  16. I'm not sold on Cherington. He inherited a lot of good players and also made a lot of bad moves. This article highlights a lot of his bad moves. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/ben-cherington-resignation-ends-very-odd-tenure-with-red-sox/
  17. I never like cheer for people to get fired or lose their job but the Twins definitely needed to make a change. I'm hoping they go outside of the organization though. If they're going to make a change after 5 terrible seasons it really needs to come from the outside.
  18. Part of the reason we're ranked so low is because players are playing out of position (Sano) and there are a lot of rookies on the team. So, once you move Sano back to his regular position, Buxton and Kepler get more regular reps the defense should pick up.
  19. Well the way the pitching staff is currently constructed the team can't afford to put players in the outfield who are terrible. Plus it's not like he's done anything over the last two seasons to warrant more playing time. I partially blame Molitor on that one because it would have been nice to use him and Park vs the splits but it didn't happen. Also, he's really the only position player on the team that is truly bad at fielding.
  20. Oh well. Would have been nice to get more from him but he is awful in the field and there just isn't enough room on the roster for him.
  21. I agree with this completely. I think Ortiz also benefited greatly from being able to play half of his games in Fenway and being able to hit double after double off the green monster. His career BA at home is .305 and his career BA away is .266. Those numbers include his time with the Twins, but I still feel it's pretty glaring and if he didn't go to Boston he probably wouldn't have put up the numbers he has.
  22. Do people really think Park is better at defense than Mauer at 1B? That's laughable - there have been at least two occasions when he's fielded a throw from either third base or SS where he's has his right foot on the base and been standing in foul territory for no reason at all instead of stretching toward the thrower. The first instance it didn't have an effect on the play but the second time, which was just weeks ago, he ended up not catching the ball because the runner was right there and almost ran into him. He was completely out of position and it didn't make any sense for him to be standing in the base path and in foul territory. I'm not saying Mauer is the best defensive first baseman in the league but he's definitely better than Park.
  23. There is only one way to find out if he'll be able to stick in the rotation and that's letting him go out there for at least 5 or 6 straight starts. Hopefully he can take the rotation spot and run with it.
  24. Once all 6 starters are healthy it'll be interesting to see what happens. Is there a trade coming or will someone be moved to the bullpen and if so who from the bullpen gets moved.
  25. Seems all the uproar in the offseason about the Twins management playing Mauer and having him hit at the top of the lineup might have been overblown.
