  1. So you think after not playing for a month and a half the best course of action is to have Buxton come right to the MLB and play 3 to 4 days a week while also taking valuable playing time from Hicks and Rosario? That's really going to be beneficial to the development of those three players...
  2. I'm sorry but is there a point to your statement? They originally called up Buxton when Hicks was injured yes that is correct. But you don't know what they would have done with him when Hicks came off the DL because Buxton was inured before Hicks came back so your statement is opinion based. Now when Hicks comes back, if the Twins send Buxton down that would be a different story and we'll just have to wait and see. But so far this season I agree 100% with the way the Twins have handled Buxton's development. He hardly played last year and ended the season playing 1 game at AA, so they started him there. His first month was aweful, then he started to turn it around in May and June. Hicks got injured and Buxton was called up to the Majors. Buxton played poorly and got injured. He missed a month a and a half and our outfield was playing well in his absence. Sending him to the minors to get his timing back was the right thing to do. Now Hicks is injured again and Buxton has been tearing it up in AAA, so again it makes sense to call him up to repalce Hicks.
  3. They were in a push for the playoffs 2 weeks ago. I'm sorry but no GM or manager on ANY team would bring back a rookie player (who only played in 10 games and played poorly) after not playing for a month and a half. If you think that was what was best for Buxton's development then I'm glad you're not making the decisions for the Twins. The correct action for his development is to send him down to the minors to get his timing right. No star players in the majors ever come back after month and a half and go right to the majors and you want to do that to a rookie?
  4. I'd agree. I'm hoping at the end of the season it comes out that Arcia has been trying to play through an injury, because if not then he's taken a major step back in his development. More than likely the Twins will have to trade for a catcher. I just hope it's not Norris unless the Twins can trade for him by himself. I don't want to take on the Shields contract even if the Twins are able to get rid of Nolasco. I'd prefer to go after one of the Mets young catchers. I'd like to have a lefty in the starting rotation as well, the Twins just don't have great left handed prospects. I'd hope Milone is traded this offseason as part of the package for a catcher. I just don't think he's consistant enough and he'd just take up a starting rotaton spot from Berrios or Duffey or Meyer if he ever figures it out.
  5. You say score 1 for TR. Our starting rotation was better than average the first half of the season. And if today was any indication of how Santana can pitch it's tough to blame TR for Santana missing the first half of the season, which would have made our SP numbers even better. They called Buxton up earlier in the season though, so they tried to get him up and get experience. He then played pourly, struck out at a high rate and got injured. They brought him back and placed him in AAA so he could get his timing and confidence back....seems pretty logical to me. He is now being brought back up after playing very well for 2 weeks at AAA and will most likely stay for the rest of the season.
  6. I agree, but being upset that after 3 games in AAA they kept him down there to gain his timing and confidence back to me is ridiculous. He could easily stay up for the rest of the season and once Hicks comes back from the DL the outfield should be Rosario, Buxton and Hicks with Hunter playing a couple of games a week.
  7. I'd agree with this 100%. It really hurt not having May in the bullpen for the first 2 games of the Yankee series.
  8. Yea typically 10 games isn't a player ready, however Buxton isn't your everyday minor leaguer. I'm assuming it had more to do with him being rusty vs. not actually being ready for the majors. What was wrong with keeping him at AAA for more than 3 games so he could build up confidence after not playing for a month and a half? And over the last 10 games he's proven to not be rusty and it hitting .400 with a 13 game hitting streak.
  9. Well since the starting staff, save for Santana today, hasn't been able to make it past the 5th inning for the last two weeks. That typically wears out a bullpen, so yea 13 pitchers does make some sense. Shane Robinson is a 4th outfielder... I'm not sure what your point is. Who would you have in his place (not including Buxton or Kepler because he needs to play every day?)
  10. I hope this was sarcasm. You really don't understand why they kept him at AAA? It could have been when he was up in June he hit .189 with a lot of stike outs, it could have been he missed a month and a half and it could have been he had only played 3 games since coming off the DL. But lets not let obvious facts cloud our judgement
  11. I think this is one of the most thought out, level headed comment I've read on TD. I think people are forgetting the Twins weren't supposed to be good this year and they really haven't been if you looked at first half numbers. Their record was way above their actual on field play. This was supposed to be the year the Twins brought up the first big wave of talent, which so far they have. And so far the talent is playng well. Hopefully by seasons end Berrios, Buxton, Keplar and Vargas will be promoted so they can get experience. I'm more excited for this offseason than I have been since 2009 and 2010. If TR can make a tradeor sign a FA catcher and add some bullpen help (Not mediocre National League players) I think the Twins could be a good and potentially playoff team. Outfield: Rosario, Buxton and Hicks. Infield: Plouffe, Polanco, Dozier and Mauer. Catcher: FA. DH: Sano Bench: Escobar, Vargas, Suzuki and FA outfielder. SP: Santana, Hughes, Gibson, May and Berrios. Bullpen: Perkins, O'Rourke, Rodgers, Jepsen, Graham, FA, FA. To me that has the makings of a good team. You also have Duffey and Nolasco as potenial replacements for th starting rotation.
  12. Although I didn't agree with moving May to the pen, moving him back to the rotation this season doesn't seem to be an option at this point either. It would mean sending him down to AAA for at least 3 starts, which would basically bring us to September. It would also mean making our bullpen worse. I'm all for putting Pelfrey in the bullpen, but you don't know what you're going to get from him. He might thrive and he might completely fail. Other than Perkins there isn't anyone I trust, so you can'y expect Pelfrey to pitch the 8th and Jepsen has been a disappointment. So, I'd say put Pelfrey in the bullpen, and bring Berrios up from AAA. Send one of the other bullpen guys through waivers to see if someone will pick them up and if not either assign them to AAA or release them. That to me would make our rotation better and could potentially upgrade our bullpen as well.
  13. Well seeing as how Nunez hasn't played in the outfield since 4/25 and Escobar since 7/7 that point is basically null. Escobar basically hasn't played in the outfield since Hicks returned from AAA. So neither of those players are taking playing time away from Buxton. It makes absolutly so sense in rushing Buxton back up to the majors. He missed a month and a half with a thumb injury and has only played in 3 games. The Twins aren't going to win the world series this year and even bringing Buxton up will not make the Twins world series contenders. Basically all three major groups (SP, BP and hitting) have been awful since the all star break. They aren't stashing the best prospect in all of baseball in AAA. They are letting him play a handful of games to get his confidence back up, so when they do call him up (likely in September) he can build off of what he's doing in AAA and be ready for next season.
  14. Why are people overracting to this news??? He looked lost for the 8 games he played in earlier this year. He hasn't played in a month and a half. Give him a couple of weeks to get some at bats, get his confidence going and he's going to be back up by September. It's unbelievable people on this site look for any reason to bash the Twins front office. This was the right move to make. He hasn't played in a month and a half he needs to get his confidence back. The Twins weren't supposed to be in the position they are this season and were never going to win the World Series. They have far out played where I thought they would be this season. Bring him back up in September get him some more experience, fill a few holes (catcher and bullpen) this offseason and go after it next season. That was the plan all along.
  15. I'm sorry to be so blunt but this is one of the dumbest things I've ever read. Do you really think Mauer ( who is from Minnesota and has earned the No Trade clause ) would ever at the back end of his deal waive that clause to move to another state? All his family is here, all his wife's family is here and he has twins that are maybe 2 years old? You point out that maybe he could go to New York when Tex retires to take advantageof their short right field fence... Is Mauer a pull hitter????? No he isn't, so why would he ever want to do that? Also, do you really think thesoft spoken Mauer would ever want to play in NY or Boston?? He's still one of the top hitter on the Twins roster right now. The reason the Twins are in a slump right now is not because of just him. Our entire team is playing like crap right now. The starters can't pitch deep into games, the bullpen has blown up and none of our position players are hitting for average right now......Also, who in their right mind would actually take on Mauer's contract at this stage of his career....
  16. I don't think there is a chance Nolasco will be in the rotation next year. He hasn't done anything in the two years he's been here and unlike when we resigned Pelfrey we now have good prospects ready for the SHOW and a much deeper overall rotation. It should be Santana, Hughes, Gibson, May and Berrios to start the season. I don't think Milone is consistant enough so I'd try to trade him and dump nolasco this offseason. I doubt that'll happen but it's worth hoping for.
  17. Didn't Morneau slide feet first when he got his concussion?
  18. Well seeing as how Ramirez broke his leg and is out for the season Rochester only has 5 outfielders that can play.
  19. I'd rather do that than over spend for an aging, injury prone and expensive SS (Tulo) who might not be as good as his stats are. If you look at his career split for home vs. away it's a large gap. Part of the overspending then makes another spot of strength a potential weakness. I.E. giving up good pitching because we'd probably have to give up Gibson or Berrios along with other top prospects.
  20. You don't have to give up a lot to fix the SS if you wait until next season and Polanco is the starting shortstop... He's hit at every level he's played at, but needs to improve his defense. Defense can be improved through hard work. Plouffe is a great example of this. He was awful when he was first called up and is now is better than average. Catcher needs to be improved and so does the bullpen. Those are the routes I'd go.
  21. There is no way I make a trade for Tulo... He's old, expensive and injury prone. The Twins would need to give up way too many top prospects for him. Even if the Twins trade for him they aren't going to win the WS this year. This is a young team with the best years in fron of them, so no need to trade the farm away when they don't have a realistic chance. The Twins biggest need is in the bullpen. Getting relief pitchers for innings 6, 7 and 8. The catcher definitely needs to be upgraded, but I don't see Lucroy as a great investment. Honestly, I'd go after AJ. I'm not a big fan of his but he's a lefthand hitter with some power.
  22. Putting them into the bullpen is a perfect way to get them experience in the SHOW. Next season they either stay in the bullpen, go back to AAA to start if the Twins have a full rotation or prove they belong in the Twins rotation. Many good teams around the league do that. As Cap'n Piranha pointed out the Twins did the exact same thing Johan Santana, and he turned out to have a pretty solid career. Plus, as you pointed out Rogers is probably a future bullpen arm anyway. Next season the Twins rotation will have: Santana, Gibson, Hughes and Milone for sure. May, Meyer, Berrios, Rogers and Duffy are all options for the 5th rotation spot. You might as well get Rogers and Duffy some experience this season in the majors via the bullpen, because those are 3 good players those two are going to have to jump to be able to make the Twins rotation.
  23. I agree 100% Jimbo. As much as I'd love to see the Twins win the world series this season it's not going to happen. Not this year. Maybe in the next few but there is no reason to trade away good prospects... at least not yet. Wait until next year when we know more about the SS prospects. Which one has a better chance at becoming a stud and trade the others away. Try and find a better catcher this offseason and some relief help.
  24. Just curious... How has Torii Hunter, "been every bit the defensive liability he was imagined to be?" I don't understand this at all. I've probably watched 90% of the games this season and he has made many of the same catches the average outfielder would make. He's made 4 errors, has a .971 fielding % and has 2 outfield assists. If you're going to post don't just put your opinion in the article and actually use facts. You lose all credibility when you just post your opinion. The Twins don't have to trade for bullpen help... They could go down to AAA and pull up some pitchers who have pitched very well this season. In 18 appearances this season Taylor Rogers has a 3.19 ERA and a1.27 WHIP. Has 115.2 IP, 2 complete games and only 30 BB compared to 82 K's. Tyler Duffy has a 2.24 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP. Has 64.1 IP, 1 CG, 1 shutout, and 17 BB to 50 K's. Instead of just throwing prospects around they should bring up the wave of talent they still have down in the minor leagues.
