    Kepler is the prospect I'm most excited to follow this season. He just seems to have the 'it' factor. Seems to have great character, works hard and is determined to make it to the Show. I think the Twins did a great job bringing him up in September last year to get him a taste of the MLB. It will be interesting to see how playing time shakes out as the season goes on. There doesn't seem to be room for him currently on the Twins roster, which isn't a bad thing. Twins finally have competition!!!!!! If Kepler builds off of last season the Twins will be forced to do something unless there are injuries (which I don't hope there are).

    No way on Suzuki. Dozier's situation is interesting. Should the Twins trade him and see if Polanco can take over at second base or keep him and move Polanco? It doesn't sound like Polanco is going to be able to play SS at the MLB level.

    This article seems to come out at a strange time in my opinion. The Twins were always in the running from 2001 to 2010 to make the playoffs. 2011 they came back with basically the same team as 2010, however the entire team was decimated by injuries. From 2012 to 2014 they were really, really bad - that also allowed them to draft Buxton, Gordon, Berrios, ect, ect. 2015 they took a step forward and many prospects are close to making it to the majors. No one knows how those prospects are going to turn out. Will they all become great - probably not. Will they all fail - probably not. Hopefully the front office hit on enough of the prospects to make these last 4 years worth it. This article would make more sense in 3 to 5 years if the Twins don't make consistent runs are the World Series and the majority of these prospects fail. To write this article right at the beginning of potential significant improvements seems strange.

    Personally I'm not too concerned about him starting the year off in the bullpen, because you never know what is going to happen. He could always start the year in the bullpen and make the jump to the Show and once he is more comfortable move into a long relief or spot start role. I'd say get him up to the MLB anyway possible where he will succeed and gain confidence and then go from there.

    Honestly, I think if Nolasco shows he can pitch at all in spring training he'll be traded. The Twins won't get much other than out from under some of his contract, but that is good enough. The rotation will probably be: Santana, Gibson, Hughes, Duffey and Milone - with Berrios being the first called up. Rotations never make it through an entire year healthy, so all it will take is one player missing a start and Berrios will get his opportunity. Besides you never know what you're going to get from Hughes or Duffey. Will Hughes be the guy from 2014 or 2015 - hopefully 2014. Duffey showed a lot of promise in the 10 starts he made last year, but that doesn't mean he's going to have the same success in 2016. Berrios will get his chance this season and if he takes that opportunity and runs with it I don't believe the Twins would send him back down. He threw 166 innings last season between AA and AAA, so he should be able to make it through the entire MLB season.

    I think this is a solid trade for the Twins. This hurts to depth of the outfield but hopefully these prospects (Buxton, Rosario and Kepler) turn out to be as good as they project to be. I don't think Hicks was as good as some people think. He basically had 1 great month this past season and then reverted back toward what he had done in the past. John Ryan Murphy could fill a void the Twins desperately need to fill at catcher. He plays average defense, throws out would be base stealers at a league average clip (which is much better than Suzuki) and has a better bat than Suzuki. This trade could mean the Twins will try and sign a FA outfielder and I think that would make sense if they could sign one to a 1 or 2 year deal. D Span wouldn't be a bad option if they could sign him to a 1 year deal. He's good defensively, a good hitter and would be a good leadoff hitter for the Twins. The lineup could look like this to start the season: 1. Span CF 2. Mauer 1B 3. Dozier 2B 4. Sano RF 5. Park DH 6. Plouffe 3B 7. Rosario LF 8. Murphy C 9. Escobar Bench of Suzuki, Santana, Arcia and another utility IF or OF. The Twins would have a backup for everyone and it would give the Twins more options to make trades during the season (Plouffe), which would move Sano to 3B and if Buxton is ready move him to CF, Span to LF and Rosario to RF since he has a stronger arm than Span.

    Yes but making the wrong choice and trading away the prospect that ends up being a difference maker and keeping the one that turns out to be a 4th outfielder is even worse. If comes down to, do you trust TR to make the right choices and I'm not 100% sold on him.

    I agree good franchises trade players when their values are high, but the Twins don't have that many proven OF's yet. Rosario scares me mainly because of his plate discipline (He has none), Hicks was good for three months after being really bad for 2 plus years, Sano isn't an outfielder, Arcia has no business even having a glove and was awful at the plate this past season. Kepler looks great in every aspect but again hasn't played above AA (His 10 plate appearances with the Twins don't count) and Buxton will and probably should start the season at AAA and be there for a month. When he was up he wasn't really squaring the ball up like everyone would like to see. So in all reality the Twins could have 6 outfields (Not including if they sign Robinson) but they could also have 0 real outfielders. What happens if the Twins trade Rosario this winter and Hicks reverts back to how he played the previous years. Buxton and Kepler are going to start the season at AAA, which they should, and then you're left with Sano and Arcia in the outfield. That is a scary outfield and not a good scary outfield.

    I don't think this is the winter to start trading players away. There is no way to know which players are going to become assets. Arica has shown flashes in the past that he can at least hit for power, Hicks looks like he figured things out but half a season of solid play isn't really proof of anything. Rosario is great in the field and has some pop, but you don't know if he is going to figure out the strike zone. Kepler hasn't played above AA. I don't understand why so many people are in a hurry to start trading away the young players before you even know what you have in them. I'd say go into next season with the majority of them and see who has taken the next step. Trade away players who aren't making progress at the trade deadline.

    There are a couple of things that give me hope Mauer can return to a similar hitter he was before his recent concussion. 1) Morneau. - It took him 2 full seasons to really get his grove back and in 2014 he hit .319 and in 2015 he was hitting .310. His OBP was .364 and .363, respectively. Mauer is now 2 full seasons away from his concussion. This offseason he's fully healthy and next year could be very telling how the last 2 seasons will go. 2) Mauer's BABIP in 2015 was .035 lower than his career average. I'm not saying Mauer of old will return, but these 2 items give me hope that he could.

    I guess I don't understand what signing Heyward would do for the Twins. He's a career .268 hitter who has only averaged 59 RBIs a season. Seems like a lot of money to be tied to very pedestrian offensive numbers. The Twins basically have 4 center fielders who all play great defense. With the Twins have Rosario, Buxton, Hicks and Kepler all pushing for playing time next season who do they get rid of?

    I agree, but I just hope if Nolasco is in the starting rotation next season it's because he earns it next spring and not because of the big contract (which so far has been a waste). I wouldn't mind seeing him start next season in the bullpen. He's been injured so much the last 2 seasons it would be tough to imagine him making it through a full season and 185+ IP as a starter.

    How is that poor roster management? How were the Twins supposed to know Santana was going to be suspended for the first half of the year and not eligible for the playoffs. And having a rookie help with the push for the playoffs is great not bad management. He will be so much better off in the future having gone through a playoff race and potentially the playoffs. Hughes was great last season and has been injured all this season. The starting rotation of Santana, Hughes, Gibson, Milone and May to start the season should have been an asset. The front office had no way to know Santana wouldn't be able to pitch and Hughes ( after having a great season last year ) would be injured off and on all season.

    After last nights loss this will be a pivotal series for the Twins. If they can take at least 3 out of 4 and Houston continues to slide the Twins might be able to pull even. Houston has another game against Texas tonight and then plays Oakland this weekend.

    I'm definitely excited for some of the young pitchers in the Twins system. Felix Jorge, Mat Batts and Stephen Gonsalves all could start next season in the A+ league and move up quickly to AA or AAA by seasons end. Berrios is knocking on the door to be a starter for the Twins. He probably won't start next season with the Twins for financial reasons but will / should be up by May. (Similar to Kris Bryant this season) A starting rotation next season of Santana, Hughes, Gibson, Berrios and May looks to be solid. With Milone and Duffey as options as well. It makes you wonder if Terry Ryan will try and trade Hughes and or Nolasco this offseason. (Crossing my fingers)

    He's been able to strike out people at least left handed batters. That's a good thing. I like O'Rourke as well, but he is young and inexperienced.

    Although I didn't agree with moving May to the pen, moving him back to the rotation this season doesn't seem to be an option at this point either. It would mean sending him down to AAA for at least 3 starts, which would basically bring us to September. It would also mean making our bullpen worse. I'm all for putting Pelfrey in the bullpen, but you don't know what you're going to get from him. He might thrive and he might completely fail. Other than Perkins there isn't anyone I trust, so you can'y expect Pelfrey to pitch the 8th and Jepsen has been a disappointment. So, I'd say put Pelfrey in the bullpen, and bring Berrios up from AAA. Send one of the other bullpen guys through waivers to see if someone will pick them up and if not either assign them to AAA or release them. That to me would make our rotation better and could potentially upgrade our bullpen as well.

    Well seeing as how Nunez hasn't played in the outfield since 4/25 and Escobar since 7/7 that point is basically null. Escobar basically hasn't played in the outfield since Hicks returned from AAA. So neither of those players are taking playing time away from Buxton. It makes absolutly so sense in rushing Buxton back up to the majors. He missed a month and a half with a thumb injury and has only played in 3 games. The Twins aren't going to win the world series this year and even bringing Buxton up will not make the Twins world series contenders. Basically all three major groups (SP, BP and hitting) have been awful since the all star break. They aren't stashing the best prospect in all of baseball in AAA. They are letting him play a handful of games to get his confidence back up, so when they do call him up (likely in September) he can build off of what he's doing in AAA and be ready for next season.

    I don't think there is a chance Nolasco will be in the rotation next year. He hasn't done anything in the two years he's been here and unlike when we resigned Pelfrey we now have good prospects ready for the SHOW and a much deeper overall rotation. It should be Santana, Hughes, Gibson, May and Berrios to start the season. I don't think Milone is consistant enough so I'd try to trade him and dump nolasco this offseason. I doubt that'll happen but it's worth hoping for.

    Putting them into the bullpen is a perfect way to get them experience in the SHOW. Next season they either stay in the bullpen, go back to AAA to start if the Twins have a full rotation or prove they belong in the Twins rotation. Many good teams around the league do that. As Cap'n Piranha pointed out the Twins did the exact same thing Johan Santana, and he turned out to have a pretty solid career. Plus, as you pointed out Rogers is probably a future bullpen arm anyway. Next season the Twins rotation will have: Santana, Gibson, Hughes and Milone for sure. May, Meyer, Berrios, Rogers and Duffy are all options for the 5th rotation spot. You might as well get Rogers and Duffy some experience this season in the majors via the bullpen, because those are 3 good players those two are going to have to jump to be able to make the Twins rotation.

    I agree 100% Jimbo. As much as I'd love to see the Twins win the world series this season it's not going to happen. Not this year. Maybe in the next few but there is no reason to trade away good prospects... at least not yet. Wait until next year when we know more about the SS prospects. Which one has a better chance at becoming a stud and trade the others away. Try and find a better catcher this offseason and some relief help.

    Just curious... How has Torii Hunter, "been every bit the defensive liability he was imagined to be?" I don't understand this at all. I've probably watched 90% of the games this season and he has made many of the same catches the average outfielder would make. He's made 4 errors, has a .971 fielding % and has 2 outfield assists. If you're going to post don't just put your opinion in the article and actually use facts. You lose all credibility when you just post your opinion. The Twins don't have to trade for bullpen help... They could go down to AAA and pull up some pitchers who have pitched very well this season. In 18 appearances this season Taylor Rogers has a 3.19 ERA and a1.27 WHIP. Has 115.2 IP, 2 complete games and only 30 BB compared to 82 K's. Tyler Duffy has a 2.24 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP. Has 64.1 IP, 1 CG, 1 shutout, and 17 BB to 50 K's. Instead of just throwing prospects around they should bring up the wave of talent they still have down in the minor leagues.

    That's a whole lot of IFs there at the beginning of your post. 10 years of Tulo in the majors and not once playing a full season is pretty good evidence he isn't able to stay healthy. He's definitely a very good defensive SS, but his offensive numbers are helped by the fact he plays in Colorado for half the season. If you look at the last three year from 2012 to 2014: Home: BA .354, HR 31, Runs 107, RBI 92 Away: BA .276, HR 23, Runs 69, RBI 69 Also, I don't think I'd call someone who will be 31 in the beginning of October "in the middle of their prime." Prime age is 26 to 30 and once you get to 30 you're on the back end of your prime.

    So, H2OFACE you'd like to trade two of the Twins top prospects in Polanco and Meyer for Tulo who is a 30 year old SS who has never played a full season in the majors. I'm glad you're not the GM for the Twins. In 46 games at AA Polanco is hitting .318 with 27 runs and 24 RBI's. He is only 21 years old and is on the verge of at least moving up to AAA. You say we have plenty of SS in case Tulo gets injured, but with him it's not an IF he gets injured it's a WHEN he get injured. There is no reason to trade for an expensive, soon to be over the hill SS that benefits for playing half his games in Colorado.
