  1. He did but the part that I don't understand is people making this a race issue. Isn't Royce's father African American? Which makes him half White and half African American, correct? I find it ridiculous to hint or state that people commenting only talk about players with "High Character" when discussing White players.
  2. I don't think I could say it better than AZTwin that this discussion got completely derailed. This was definitely not the discussion I was expecting to read. Back to their talent and topic at hand. What does everything think about these two being selected to play in the Arizona Fall League? Would this be a typical stage for them to go against the better talent in that league?
  3. It's going to be great to watch these two as they move up each level. Obviously we're a few years down the road but it will be interesting where Kiriloff will play with the Twins outfield seemingly set with Rosario, Buxton and Kepler.
  4. It's great to have the minor league reports back! Thanks to everyone for putting these together!
  5. Are team options common in baseball contracts? Would both sides be agreeable to a 5 year deal where year 4 is a player option and year 5 is a team option or player/team option? Deal would be 5 years for say 85 to 90 million. After year three Dozier could opt out and after year four both parties would have to agree to the fifth year. I think this would be beneficial for both parties. It gives Dozier the security with a 4 year deal and also gives him the option to opt out early if he continues to put up great years. It would also give the team security because they would have to agree to the fifth season and if he starts dropping off they walk away.
  6. 6 quality innings! Nice way to start the season.
  7. So, it makes sense now why the Twins signed Aybar. With Polanco and Sano potentially being suspended for the beginning of the season they needed someone as a backup plan.
  8. In the very small sample size of games / innings I've been able to watch so far this season it does seem like Gordon's arm is really weak especially since he's been throwing from second base. I know he injured one of his wrists earlier in ST, not sure which one, so if it's his throwing arm then maybe that is why.
  9. Mauer and Dozier are at two different stages in their career, so that comparison doesn't work.
  10. I think the Twins will miss his right handed bat the most especially since it looks like they will be replacing him with Gordon. It would definitely be difficult to replace everything he does for the Twins team. I'd like to see them bring him back for 3 or 4 more seasons but if they don't I just hope the FO actually spends the money on the starting rotation.
  11. Part of the reason he'd start in AA is the depth the Twins currently have at pitching. Twins: Santana, Berrios, Gibson, Odorizzi and Mejia AAA Starters: Slegers, Gonsalves, Jorge, Enns and Huges/Littel/May
  12. Those numbers are great but if he's getting injured every year and can't help the team make the playoffs and during the playoffs it's not going to matter.
  13. He might be the prospect I'm most excited to follow this season. It'll be interesting to see where he end the season.
  14. The problem the Twins would have if they waived Vargas is they don't have anyone to backup Joe at first. Sano can play there on occasion but he's probably going to be suspended and will need days off as well. He has yet to play more than 116 games in a season. Garver would be another option but most coaches don't like to play both catchers in the same game. Whoever they bring in to replace Vargas would need to be able to play 1st base as well.
  15. I agree with this 1000%. The Twins have been operating well below the supposedly spend 50% of the revenue on payroll shtick for the last 5 or 6 seasons. If the Twins were serious about contending and not cheap they could easily go over 50% of revenue for the next few seasons. Time will tell, but I won't be holding my breath.
  16. I'd rather have Darvish for sure. The Twins need a top of the rotation starter and that's what Darvish is. If the Twins make it to the playoffs again I don't want Santana to be the pitcher matching up against other teams number 1's.
  17. It'll be an exciting year if he can make it to the MLB. The AAA pitching staff should be very good this season with him, Slegers, Gonsalves and Jorge.
  18. I'd add two plays to the Wild's section. Both happened in Round 1 of the 2014 playoffs against Colorado with them being the number 1 seed and the Wild being the 8th. 1. With the Wild down 2 - 0 in the series Granlund diving across the crease to score in overtime to give the Wild a 1 - 0 win. 2. With the series tied at 3 Niederreiter scoring on a 2 vs 1 in overtime to win the series.
  19. I mean if you're going to talk about seeing a player play a full season lets throw Sano into that category as well. He played in only 80 games in 2015 after his call up, then only 116 in his first full season in 2016 and only 114 in 2017. I don't understand why you would want to extend Sano since he can't stay on the field but not extend Buxton.
  20. I was at the game last night. The team basically didn't put in any effort last night until about 6 or 7 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. A ton of bad passes, bad shots, missed lay ups and lazy defense the first half.
  21. I'd try to get him signed to a 3 year contract worth $45 million with an option year for an additional $15 mil and a buyout. I don't think I'd go more than 4 years total because he'll be 36 - 37 by that 5th year.
  22. I really don't understand fans who are being negative about this signing. It's almost a certainty that the Twins will take out insurance on him because he's coming back from TJ surgery, which will basically make the cost zero if he doesn't ever fully recover. He could very well be a relief pitcher for the Twins come September and into the playoffs if they make it there. He'll be 14 months removed from surgery by September and then by the time the next season starts in April he'll be ~ 21 months removed from surgery. This signing isn't going to hurt the Twins in 2019 from going out and signing other players.
