  1. There is no downside to this move because it's only two years and very low money. This is a low risk high reward signing.
  2. There is absolutely zero reason to not bring in a legit closer or at least someone with 8th inning stuff. The Twins have plenty of money to spend and plenty of payroll availability. They have a ton of money coming off the books and none of their young players are going to be paid for 3 or 4 years, which is exactly how long they would need to sign a top reliever.
  3. That's probably a bit light on what it would take to get a Boras client to sign an extension. Probably closer to 4 years for $60mil.
  4. I wouldn't want to see the Twins actively shopping Kepler or Rosario as the Twins don't have a replacement ready to come up and fill in the position. (Granite is not a starting OF option - he's at best a 4th outfielder). Wade is a solid prospect but he hasn't played above AA yet, so he wouldn't be ready to come up until at least mid season. I also don't understand trading Garver either, as the Twins don't have another option for catcher anywhere near major league ready. Rortvedt played at Low A this season and he's the only catching prospect the Twins have. If the Twins are going to make trades they need to trade away from the middle infield depth and also the starters they have at AA and AAA that all project to be 3 - 5 starters in a rotation.
  5. If they don't buy this offseason then yes absolutely the FO has missed an opportunity to really change the direction of this franchise.
  6. Can you give some examples? All of your posts have stated the Twins have missed out on international talent. What talent are you talking about? Ohtani wants to be on the West Coast, so there really wasn't anything the Twins could do there. The Twins offered more money to Kevin Maitan but he signed with the Angels because the Twins have 3 or 4 legit prospects at SS in the minors. Again, not something the Twins could do there. What other international prospects that are "great" have the Twins missed on?
  7. Neither is a handful of people on here speculating the Twins are being shady with ZERO evidence.
  8. May shouldn't even be in the equation for the start of the season rotation. If I were the Twins I'd let him know that he's going into the season as a starting option so that he prepared to be a starter but I would also let him know that he's probably going to start the season on the DL or in AAA so he can build up his arm strength. The Twins can't afford to waste games at the start of the season with his "try outs".
  9. 31 seems like a number he would choose.
  10. I had a dream last night the Twins signed Yu Darvish for whatever that's worth.
  11. Lock up Berrios and Buxton for as long as they can. It would really depend on how much Sano is going to be looking for. If he wants superstar money then I'd pass as he has yet to stay healthy for a full season and his motivation/determination doesn't seem as high as those two. I don't think it would take too much to lock Rosario up, so I'd be willing to do a medium length contract with him. Kepler could probably be signed to a medium length contract as well.
  12. I work/live in NY now and if the Twins can find a way to beat NY I will be ecstatic! Basically my whole office are Yankees' fans and it will make for a miserable couple of weeks if I have to listen to all of them about how good the Yankees are.
  13. Since he is one of the top pitching prospects and getting so close to the MLB I'd just shut him down for the season. It would be great for him to get some playoff experience but I'd rather they not risk him getting injured. Shut him down and start him at AA next season with the chance to move up to AAA really quick if he has a good 5 + starts.
  14. I had the game on but wasn't following closely. Does anyone else know why Santana was pulled after 7 Innings when he was only at 91 pitches?
  15. It sounds like Perkins is in MN but might still be sent to Rochester for a couple of games.
  16. Never heard of this but here is a breakdown: https://www.epainassist.com/sports-injuries/arm-and-elbow-injuries/brachialis-pain https://secure.familyhealthtracker.com/deliver.aspx?s=lg&t=di&l=en&f=%7Bb2574e3d-7051-4e18-b1fe-ebc6e9318aad%7D&key=26dd85c28d515a89bff6d8625ddf298a
  17. I just don't get this. What does Garver need to do to get a chance up here.
  18. Yup, and additions and subtractions happen in season every year. If injuries happen to players with larger contracts and they're being paid by insurance that would allow the FO to make trades for players with larger contacts.
  19. It's not a side bar at all? If the two injured players mentioned, who have larger contracts, are being paid by insurance that to me would mean the actual payroll is significantly lower. And just as Gunnarthor stated that might have been why the Pohlad's were willing to eat most of Garcia's contract. So, it does in fact come into play when talking about the total payroll. Edit: Plus we aren't talking about every other team. We're talking about the cheap a$$ Pohlads, so any money gained via insurance is a really big deal.
  20. I mean technically it's $108 million but you'd have to assume some of these injured players making money are all being paid by insurance. I'm mainly referring to Perkins and Hughes. I doubt the Pohlad's are paying for either of those contacts this season, so it's probably a lot closer to $90 to $95 million they're actually paying.
  21. You'd have to figure the Pohlad's will let them spend more than this season. Maybe that's wishful thinking, but they need to increase the payroll to at least $115 million next season. They might be able to convince the owners to have the one year increase knowing Mauer's $23 million will be coming off the books the next season.
  22. I'd say Santana is a much better overall hitter. His OPS is nearly 50 points higher and he has 43 XBH this season compared to Grossman's 22. The only reason I threw Seth Smith's name out there was because of the difficulty of finding a RH power bat that won't cost $15 + million.
