  1. Those numbers are great but if he's getting injured every year and can't help the team make the playoffs and during the playoffs it's not going to matter.
  2. He might be the prospect I'm most excited to follow this season. It'll be interesting to see where he end the season.
  3. The problem the Twins would have if they waived Vargas is they don't have anyone to backup Joe at first. Sano can play there on occasion but he's probably going to be suspended and will need days off as well. He has yet to play more than 116 games in a season. Garver would be another option but most coaches don't like to play both catchers in the same game. Whoever they bring in to replace Vargas would need to be able to play 1st base as well.
  4. I agree with this 1000%. The Twins have been operating well below the supposedly spend 50% of the revenue on payroll shtick for the last 5 or 6 seasons. If the Twins were serious about contending and not cheap they could easily go over 50% of revenue for the next few seasons. Time will tell, but I won't be holding my breath.
  5. I'd rather have Darvish for sure. The Twins need a top of the rotation starter and that's what Darvish is. If the Twins make it to the playoffs again I don't want Santana to be the pitcher matching up against other teams number 1's.
  6. It'll be an exciting year if he can make it to the MLB. The AAA pitching staff should be very good this season with him, Slegers, Gonsalves and Jorge.
  7. I'd add two plays to the Wild's section. Both happened in Round 1 of the 2014 playoffs against Colorado with them being the number 1 seed and the Wild being the 8th. 1. With the Wild down 2 - 0 in the series Granlund diving across the crease to score in overtime to give the Wild a 1 - 0 win. 2. With the series tied at 3 Niederreiter scoring on a 2 vs 1 in overtime to win the series.
  8. I mean if you're going to talk about seeing a player play a full season lets throw Sano into that category as well. He played in only 80 games in 2015 after his call up, then only 116 in his first full season in 2016 and only 114 in 2017. I don't understand why you would want to extend Sano since he can't stay on the field but not extend Buxton.
  9. I was at the game last night. The team basically didn't put in any effort last night until about 6 or 7 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. A ton of bad passes, bad shots, missed lay ups and lazy defense the first half.
  10. I'd try to get him signed to a 3 year contract worth $45 million with an option year for an additional $15 mil and a buyout. I don't think I'd go more than 4 years total because he'll be 36 - 37 by that 5th year.
  11. I really don't understand fans who are being negative about this signing. It's almost a certainty that the Twins will take out insurance on him because he's coming back from TJ surgery, which will basically make the cost zero if he doesn't ever fully recover. He could very well be a relief pitcher for the Twins come September and into the playoffs if they make it there. He'll be 14 months removed from surgery by September and then by the time the next season starts in April he'll be ~ 21 months removed from surgery. This signing isn't going to hurt the Twins in 2019 from going out and signing other players.
  12. There is no downside to this move because it's only two years and very low money. This is a low risk high reward signing.
  13. There is absolutely zero reason to not bring in a legit closer or at least someone with 8th inning stuff. The Twins have plenty of money to spend and plenty of payroll availability. They have a ton of money coming off the books and none of their young players are going to be paid for 3 or 4 years, which is exactly how long they would need to sign a top reliever.
  14. That's probably a bit light on what it would take to get a Boras client to sign an extension. Probably closer to 4 years for $60mil.
  15. I wouldn't want to see the Twins actively shopping Kepler or Rosario as the Twins don't have a replacement ready to come up and fill in the position. (Granite is not a starting OF option - he's at best a 4th outfielder). Wade is a solid prospect but he hasn't played above AA yet, so he wouldn't be ready to come up until at least mid season. I also don't understand trading Garver either, as the Twins don't have another option for catcher anywhere near major league ready. Rortvedt played at Low A this season and he's the only catching prospect the Twins have. If the Twins are going to make trades they need to trade away from the middle infield depth and also the starters they have at AA and AAA that all project to be 3 - 5 starters in a rotation.
  16. If they don't buy this offseason then yes absolutely the FO has missed an opportunity to really change the direction of this franchise.
  17. Can you give some examples? All of your posts have stated the Twins have missed out on international talent. What talent are you talking about? Ohtani wants to be on the West Coast, so there really wasn't anything the Twins could do there. The Twins offered more money to Kevin Maitan but he signed with the Angels because the Twins have 3 or 4 legit prospects at SS in the minors. Again, not something the Twins could do there. What other international prospects that are "great" have the Twins missed on?
  18. Neither is a handful of people on here speculating the Twins are being shady with ZERO evidence.
  19. May shouldn't even be in the equation for the start of the season rotation. If I were the Twins I'd let him know that he's going into the season as a starting option so that he prepared to be a starter but I would also let him know that he's probably going to start the season on the DL or in AAA so he can build up his arm strength. The Twins can't afford to waste games at the start of the season with his "try outs".
  20. 31 seems like a number he would choose.
  21. I had a dream last night the Twins signed Yu Darvish for whatever that's worth.
  22. Lock up Berrios and Buxton for as long as they can. It would really depend on how much Sano is going to be looking for. If he wants superstar money then I'd pass as he has yet to stay healthy for a full season and his motivation/determination doesn't seem as high as those two. I don't think it would take too much to lock Rosario up, so I'd be willing to do a medium length contract with him. Kepler could probably be signed to a medium length contract as well.
