Article: Twins Close To Acquiring LHP Jaime Garcia?
SF Twins Fan replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If this is a top 15 prospect I'll be pretty annoyed. A very average pitcher from the NL isn't something I give up any prospect that has a high ceiling. -

I wouldn't give up either of those players for the Shark. Having lived in SF for the past two years (Just moved to NY) the fans can't stand him. He's been a complete let down for what they thought they were getting and for what he's being paid. Based on how he's pitched the last couple of seasons and how much money he's owed still there is no way I'd give up a top 5 prospect for him. Throw in the fact he's pitching in the NL and it makes his stats look even worse.- 15 replies

Article: A (Twins) Territory Divided
SF Twins Fan replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
There is no way I include Gordon in any deal like that. Straily is a one hit wonder who has been bad before this season. I'd maybe include a top 10 prospect for him but even that might be high. -
Article: A (Twins) Territory Divided

First and foremost I'd like to see some promotions. Twins: I'd like to see Breslow and potentially Belisle be DFA'd or waived whichever it is. In their place I would promote one of Busenitz or Curtiss and then also bring up Garver, Park or Varges. Minors: I'd like to see Gonsalves and potentially Romero and Jorge moved up to AAA and I'd like to see Thorpe moved up to AA. As for trades I wouldn't blow the farm on a move unless it's for Archer, which I don't see happening. I would however like to see someone added to the bullpen and potentially a back end of the rotation starter. A rotation of Santana, Berrios, Mejia, Trade and Gibson is pretty solid overall. It's not going to compete against the top few teams but should be good enough to allow them to compete the rest of the season. I also would like to see a veteran RH bench bat added as well. -
I agree the Twins have to give up something good to get the type of pitcher they need at the top of the rotation, however I'd rather them spend money in the offseason on one of the top pitchers available. Go into next season with a starting rotation of Santana, Berrios, FA Acquisition, Mejia and 5th starter and then make a trade if they need more starting pitching at the trade deadline. This will allow the Twins time to evaluate Gonsalves and Romero at AAA the second half of this season and to see how close both of them are to having an impact in the MLB next season.
-
I understand that, however none of the depth is anywhere close to playing in the MLB. Vielma is struggling so far at AAA and is mostly a defensive player anyways. Palacios is having a good season so far, however he has only played 15 games at High A, and will either start next season there or AA. The rest of the top SS prospects in the Twins system are at A or lower, so all of the "depth" they have isn't really all that close. Can Polanco and Escobar and Vielma hold down the position for 3 more seasons until these other players are available?
-
Which one would you play at 3rd though? Dozier and Polanco don't have the arm to play there and Gordon isn't going to put up the numbers you would want from a 3rd baseman. Gordon is a line drive hitter that uses his speed to get doubles and triples. He'll be lucky to have 10 + homers a season in the MLB.
-
I definitely agree Gibson is bad, but I doubt they DFA him and would assume he'll be in play for the 5th rotation spot next season. I see Mejia as flashing #3 type stuff and would think #4 would be his floor. He's still relatively young (Just turned 24 in June) and seems to be improving. I also wouldn't count on May adding much value until the mid point next season and even then they might stick him in the bullpen.
-
Do they need to add two SP this offseason? The Twins could easily go into next season with Santana, Berrios, FA acquisition - maybe Pineda, Mejia and Gibson. Starting the season next year the AAA starting rotation should be Gonsalves, Romero, Jorge and Slegers. You'd have to think Thorpe will move up to AA at some point this season or the beginning of next season. To me there is plenty of depth that would allow the Twins to only go after one offseason FA SP and then if s*** hits the fan next season with a few of the starting pitchers they could try and trade for another SP.

I still can't figure out how to post a tweet like InfraRen just did but Berardino just tweeted what McKay is getting from the Rays. I feel like they wayyyyyyy over paid. Mike BerardinoVerified account @MikeBerardino 16m16 minutes ago More Louisville LHP Brendan McKay, who turned down #mntwins offer, is expected to get $7M-$7.2M from #Rays (slot is $6.15M @4), I'm told. -

I'd go with Wright. He has a high ceiling and floor plus the Twins need pitching right now and he will probably be to the majors the soonest.- 720 replies

Article: Twins Roster Projection 2017: Version 3.0
SF Twins Fan replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
What scares me the most with keeping all of the "adequate" veteran players around for the start of the season is that 22 of the first 25 games of the season are against the Central Division. If the Twins are keeping players around who aren't as good as some of these young guys just for veteran leadership and they get off to a bad start the season is going to be over before the end of April.- 85 replies

Arrieta: 2.42 ERA, 2.72 FIP, 9.15 K/9, 2.55 BB/9 Darvish: 3.20 ERA, 2.94 FIP, 11.55 K/9, 2.94 BB/9 Cueto: 2.80 ERA, 3.26 FIP, 8.21 K/9, 2.08 BB/9 Tanaka: 3.12 ERA, 3.53 FIP, 8.18 K/9, 1.54 BB/9 Tillman: 3.99 ERA, 4.22 FIP, 6.68 K/9, 3.19 BB/9 Pineda: 4.10 ERA, 3.42 FIP, 9.20 K/9, 1.77 BB/9 Cobb: 3.54 ERA, 3.51 FIP, 7.88 K/9, 2.58 BB/9 I would target Darvish, Pineda and Cobb. I'm not a fan of most pitchers who put up great numbers in the NL with zero success in the AL. Darvish and Pineda both have the K/9 I'd like to see the Twins target and Cobb is intriguing because he had good numbers prior to his injury.- 125 replies

One thing I hope for with the new front office is that they're more aggressive with promotions. It doesn't seem like position players were promoted mid season very often.- 163 replies

Looks like there could be some other movement now that Boston traded for Sale. Mike Berardino @MikeBerardino 8m8 minutes ago Buchholz due $13.5 M in final year. Some offset likely required there. Pomeranz projected $4.7 M as 4+ arb. Drafted by both TEX/CLE. Mike Berardino @MikeBerardino 12m12 minutes ago Sale fallout could lead #RedSox to make Buchholz and/or Pomeranz available. Hearing #mntwins could have interest but have yet to engage.- 120 replies
