  1. I think they would recall Wally the Beerman before Pinto.
  2. The strength of the farm system is starting pitching and hard as it is to believe today, power arm relief pitchers are next. Hu may have been somewhere around our 17th-20th prospect, Tapia somewhere in the 40-50 range. We received a power arm vet who is keeping us in the hunt. I have no complaints.
  3. Take a look at the numbers Berrios put up in June.
  4. This is one of the great myths that has flourished on the board, that all the free agents we have signed we were not actively pursued by other bidders. No one has ever provided a shred of evidence that this is true. What in the world is wrong with "strike early" moves?
  5. Actually this is a sound strategy for a mid-market team and pretty much the same formula followed by the Astros and Luvable Losers. The system rewards those with the worst records with the best picks. Fools gold is attempting to compete when you can't, where you miss the playoffs and don't get the better picks year after year. Even the Evil Nation spent 500 Million one off-season and missed the playoffs. I'm not sure it will ever happen on this board without a culture change, but the baseball world recognizes Terry Ryan's sound strategy.
  6. I agree. Next season I'm guessing they add Duffey and Pressly with Graham first man up. It's been frustrating, but you can see it coming together.
  7. I disagreed with your post #8 on this thread as written, nothing more, nothing less.
  8. Rob Antoney discussed Berrios on Inside Twins yesterday. Berrios had a difficult June and righted himself in July. Since he wasn't on the radar until August, why would you hold him back in June and July?
  9. Your interpretation could not possibly be further off.
  10. They are not going to throw bodies against the wall to see what sticks. We are now a team in the hunt and are not going to hold open auditions for shiny new things.
  11. TR is one of 3 two time Baseball Executive of the Year. When he wins again in the next year or so, Brad Pitt will be the only one with any chance to catch him.
  12. Several Sundays ago, TR was asked why Duffy instead of Berrios. He said Duffy was having the better year. He specifically challenged the number crunchers to examine the numbers. Just a tidbit for those trying to revise history.
  13. Mike, is this the TR had nothing to do with the rebuild, all the credit goes to Bill Smith talk?
  14. He just rebuilt our favorite team for the second time. The next year or so should cement his place in Cooperstown. Millions of knowledgeable and loyal Twins fans regard TR as a savior, not so much the fan board. I'm downtown on game days quite often. The paying fans are having a great time this season, not so much the fan board.
  15. Suzuki is good enough to get us in the playoffs this year, and he will be good enough to get us into the playoffs next year. We do need to upgrade catcher sometime in the future, but no one is standing on the ledge.
  16. The May spot start was a one shot deal, so it didn't concern me at all. May to the pen saved our season and is the only thing preventing talk of 90 losses for five consecutive seasons from our friends on the board.
  17. If there truly is a logjam at DH, then make the deal at the trade deadline. Kepler, Arcia, and Vargas are not proven major leaguers. They are shiny new things. Also, there have been any number of top prospects, who have been unable to remain at 3B. It makes no sense to take a step backwards, when we already have a good 3B. Let this playout.
  18. We have no idea how good Sano is defensively at 3B. The way he is currently being handled is keeping us in the hunt and will again next season. If Arcia, Vargas, or even a committee prove they can outperform Plouffe offensively, then make a trade. If it's not broken, don't fix it.
  19. It's early, but I could see a team approaching us for May as their future closer. Wouldn't mind packaging Nolasco and May for a major league ready catcher.
  20. I think you're very close. I'm guessing Nolasco starts in the rotation, and Berrios is first man up. TR is very high on Pressly, so I see him starting in the pen if healthy.
  21. Take a look at the makeup of the 2012 and 2014 drafts if you think TR is stuck in the past. How about the two Rule 5 pickups? It would be great if everything came together at the same time, it just doesn't always happen that way. This team is a contending team, just not a finished product.
  22. Mauer is not going anywhere. They will keep Plouffe at 3B and Sano at the DH until they find a primary DH who can put up around .270, plus 25-30 bombs. They may do it next season or even the season after. Vargas or Arcia at one time were the obvious candidates. They won't move Plouffe until they have a solid weapon at DH.
  23. I would start Tyler Jay and bring in Nick Gordon to play SS. Our favorite team needs to start thinking outside the box.
  24. I suspect he'll get quite a bit more leash since he's 26-18 since joining our favorite team.
