The scary thing is the Twins may not be able to feast on weak AL Central opponents that we’ve grown accustomed to in the last 5-10 years. The summer months get long when your favorite baseball team stinks.
Varland as the 5 is the result of slashing $30 million in payroll. At this point we need to play it out because the alternative isn’t much better. If he still stinks after 8-10 starts, then it’s time to move him to the bullpen or St. Paul.
This team simply isn't entertaining to watch at the moment. Reminiscent of the first 3 months last season when the offense stunk on a near nightly basis.
I’m just waiting things out for now. We’re in year 8 of Falvey/Levine and it’s not a good start. This is plenty of runway to build a pretty dang good team if they’re the real deal Holyfield.
Might be. I felt like this was a mid 80s win team assuming Lewis, Buxton, Correa, etc. played a reasonable amount of games. Lewis getting injured on opening day was a big buzzkill and to be honest I haven’t paid much attention since.
Pitching is usually more ready than hitting this time of year, so I am withholding criticism of the offense for now. This is going to be a tough week with the Super Dodgers coming to town. Fingers crossed it’s not worse than a 3-4 record by this time next week.
My preferred draft outcomes (QB focus) less than a month away. Ranked from most to least preferred…
1. Trade up to #2-4 overall for Maye or Daniels. It’s going to cost a premium and I’m okay with it. #11, 23, 2025 1st + a player like Bynum or Metellus is as high as I’d go.
2. Trade up to #5-8 overall for McCarthy or another QB that’s falling. That probably costs both 1st round picks and I’m cool with that.
3. Stick at 11 overall and take the best DT/EDGE on the board. #23 trade down to accumulate more top 100 picks. Take someone like Spencer Rattler in the 2nd or 3rd round.
4. Defense at 11 and Michael Penix at 23.
5. Staying at 11 and 23 and selecting 2 non-QBs.
6. Taking Nix or Penix at 11 and non-QB at 23. This is the one outcome that feels like a Ponder type reach. I wouldn’t be happy with this result.
