  1. I don't know enough to agree or disagree with your analysis. I do know that every agreement has hurt the fans over the past 20-25 years by lengthening calls to bullpen and between inning breaks. I don't want to see rosters expand and 15 men bullpens!!! In Maryland we have Cal Ripken summer league (college kids wood bats). Good games that are fun to watch with no tv timeouts. I expect these could grow if minor leagues shrink...that would be a good thing.
  2. Thanks Seth as always a great article--love reading about the guys trying to make it up who are now down in the low levels.
  3. Cuddy was also my favorite Twin of the 2000s...sad to see him go...good he left before he got too old that is rare in baseball.
  4. I feel old everyday--that's what happens when you are a grandpa and on medicare I guess. Kudos to Cuddy for walking away (and leaving money on the table) before he got too old. One of my early baseball memories is seeing Willie Mays in CF for the Mets and a shell of himself--probably played 2 years too long. Great article Seth and yes, it will be interesting to see which of the current Twins prospects is playing in 2030.
  5. And chapman... Twins don't need to sign any of these jerks...
  6. Very very unhappy...since my best opportunity to catch Twins is in DC or Baltimore...Twins visit twice...both in April...it is very cold in April...especially opening day...
  7. I like J. Zim--I actually was at Nats Park for his no-hitter in 2014. J Zim is NOT top of the rotation material. I don't think his ceiling is as high as Hughes or Berrios or May. J Zim is good middle of rotation pitcher like Gibson that's all. I would sign him as replacement for declining Nolasco or Santana. There are four young pitchers who could help Twins potentially. Give them the ball in ST--Berrios, Duffey, May and Meyer. Let them pitch their way into the rotation behind Hughes. Fill in with Gibson, and if needed Santana, Nolasco and free agent but hope 2 or 3 of 4 kids take the ball and run with it.
  8. I second that...I remember lots of his quotes...afraid to quote them cause I will probably butcher them. RIP Yogi...
  9. Again pure speculation--but there will definitely be a job open here in DC this winter. Wouldn't be surprised to see Doug interviewed even if he doesn't get job.
  10. Dougie Baseball had 2 years with most of these guys (Walker, Polanco, Buxton, etc.) and did very well with them as they developed. I would love to see him come here to DC. You are right. Matt Williams is a real bad manager and did nothing with the talent he was given and has no clue on managing his bullpen.
  11. Brett was my AAP in 2013 and 2014. I have still been following him closely in 2015 and noticed that he turned his season around in August (like he did second half of 2013 for Kernels). I know he had a great month--still surprised you named him pitcher of month over Berrios--don't disagree--don't have your expertise but I think I would have gone with Berrios. And yes very disappointed Berrios wont see time with Twins in Sept. even to just get feel of life in the show.
  12. Jumping in a little late... I used to come to TD daily--sometimes twice a day. Around the beginning of May it got to be too annoying with the ads. Now I come 2 or 3 times a week--read only the minor league reports and some of Seth's otherstuff. Too slow and too much of a pain with ads...this forum caught my eye. I think Seth is the best BB writer out there--that is the only thing keeping me on this site.
  13. thanks for article Matt. I enjoy reading all of your postings here. A different perspective for me--I am retired--I survived 40 years working in the "real world". Hope you can avoid that place for quite a few years.
  14. Good point. I don't have Seth's expertise. A month ago, I would have said dump Peavey and move up Brett Lee and Gonsalves. Now maybe move Berrios up to Rochester--maybe DL a pitcher--then move Lee up to Chat. and Gonsalves to Miracle. It is tougher than it looks.
  15. It is past time for Brett lee to move up to Chattanooga and Gonsalves to take his spot on the Miracle.
  16. Brett Lee should be in Chattanooga--he is still at Ft. Myers--hopefully will be promoted soon.
  17. I dagree wit EMPL... Brett Lee should have started the season in Chattanooga with the rest of the guys who won the FSL title at Ft. Myers in 2014 and did almost as well in Cedar Rapids in 2013 (and yes that second half year Brett was the ace of the Kernels. any doubts were erased tonight. Brett went 7.1 IP--left the game with the lead (it went 10 innings-got 13 GO to 3 flies. He only had 3 Ks... but didn't need more.
  18. I agree--Brett has nothing to prove at Ft. Myers. He was my AAP in 2013 and 2014. I was extremely (bad word) that he didn't start the season in Chattanooga. He was the best pitcher at Cedar Rapids in the second half of 2013. He made the AS team at Ft. Myers in 2014. His ERA has been on the right side of 3.00 all three years in the Twins system, He even threw 2 complete games in 2013 and 2014 (that's 4 2 in each year).
  19. Thanks for great article...I like reading about life in the minors as you guys try to make it to the show...
  20. You can never have too much pitching...have Nolasco make a rehab start (or two) with Rochester. If no injuries before May 15 or so and he is fine bring him up, put him in rotation and move whoever is worse (Milone or Pelfrey) to the pen and ditch Stauffer. If injuries happen bring Nolasco back then. DO NOT DEMOTE MAY.
  21. Seth: 2 questions--you mentioned in your Ft. Myers story that 4 walks led to 3 runs in the 5th inning--but both box score and Ft. Myers release said that Brett Lee walked nobody. (He did give up a bunch of hits and didn't get his usual high volume of ground outs.) Also what was the reason he was on the DL--if you know--couldn't find out anything... While Brett is not my AAP this year--I am still following him--hoping he moves up to Chattanooga--last night wont help.
  22. Great article Seth. I hope he makes his way to Fort Myers--but the important thing is that he stays healthy...
  23. Deep down I think we all agree the CF answer is Buxton--he missed last year--so stay with Schafer until Buxton is ready later this year. Hicks has had his chances... Give Arcia and Gibson long leashes--they could be part of the future. Cut the older pitchers ASAP and bring up Meyer and Tonkin and later Burdi and Berrios. We look like a team that could lose 100 games--so let the kids take their lumps. Think about bringing up Dougie Baseball to manage the kids
  24. Maybe yes, maybe no. I will be out of touch for 3 weeks in June...that means I would lose prospect. Last year, I took Brett Lee and lucky for me he was on DL most of that time... This year with Grandpa babysitting duties taking up even more time I am passing up the AAP--I will be following updates though.
  25. Brett was my AAP for the past two years. I agree should have been promoted to Chattanooga. This group mostly was together at Cedar Rapids in 2013 and Ft. Myers 2014. They did well. Brett was a big part of that especially the second half of 2013--he was the best pitcher. Yes, his K rate was down in 2014 but he still made the AS team at Ft. Myers--he has nothing to prove there. I think Brett is among others caught in logjam of pitchers that starts with keeping Pelfrey...including Meyer and May. Hopefully Brett moves up to Chattanooga by my birthday (june 3)--if not then yes, he should be traded or released so he gets a real shot.
