It is less effective in describing a pitcher’s single game performance and is more appropriate in a season’s worth of innings. That doesn’t mean it isn’t a retrospective statistic, simply that it requires more than a handful of innings to be a reliable indicator of performance, just like any statistic.

    Sonny Gray FIP 3.90, Ervin Santana 4.46. Sonny Gray xFIP 3.76, Ervin Santana 4.77. Ervin Santana averaged about one more out per start. Then again, Yankees bullpen is way more trustworthy, so the Yankees had no issues with pulling a starter.

    Someone posted a tweet on the site yesterday that read 'I'm a vet & if you think I served so football players could take a knee during the anthem to protest injustice...you'd be right.' I couldnt agree more.

Pretty soon, if Fangraphs loses too much more talent to silly organizations who think these writers know enough about baseball to help their organization, they might get desperate and hire Harold Reynolds or Jon Heyman to write to there. Nahhh, they'd never stoop that low.

    So I was out last night watching the football game, and I ordered a Monte Cristo. Now, I've never had one, but I was curious why that was the only sandwich where they purposely offered a half. Even the waiter asked, 'Half?' I said nope. Then I found out why they actively offer a half. I was only starting to get hungry around 4 PM today.

    I hear a lot about platooning, but roster construction in todays game, with 5 man rotations and larger bullpens than before, doesnt lend itself to platooning as much as it did before. 25 man roster, 13 pitcher leaves 12 position players. 9 position players play in the AL (8 on the field, one at DH). There just isnt much room to move around and play splits as much as some seem to want.
