  1. Besides the rule that says a player has to play 10 seasons, yeah. His level of awesome is off the charts, especially when one considers he does all this on a bad team while playing a premium position that he also plays well. No one had ever finished in top three in MVP voting in his first five seasons, and he has finished top 2 in his first 5. We are watching true greatness with him. And Kershaw too.
  2. Finished 6th. And one guy actually had him 1st. He should write in Minnesota and cover the Twins, where defense also doesn't matter. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/voted-david-ortiz-al-mvp-award-winner-mike-trout-article-1.2878145 One of his main reasons was Trout didn't play meaningful games past May 1st? I guess he didn't play any contenders after that? No effect at all on who made the playoffs? If having the fortune of being drafted and/or playing on a team with enough talent around him to get to the playoffs is such a factor in MVP voting, why put Trout 2nd? Why have him on your ballot at all? He wants to talk about Ortiz offense. And apparently got bonus points for being 40, as if age should be a factor. Ortiz got the award the Hank Aaron award, which is about offense. But he's also a DH. Offense is all he does. Additionally, Trout still lead in wRC+ by 8 points. A player at a premium position led the majors in wRC+.
  3. What's Rosario going to bounce back to? His BA in 2016 was better than it was in 2015. His OBP in 2016 was better than it was in 2015. His K rate was up slightly this year, but not significantly. His walk rate was up slightly (again, not significantly) The area where he was 'worse'? His slugging % was down this year, compared to last year, due to an unsustainable amount of triples he had in 2015. This was predictable and was mentioned when people were talking about who was likely to be most disappointing this year. He was basically the same player he was last year, at least offensively. And, defensively, the league figured out he could throw so his assists went down cause less ran on him.
  4. So how much of an afterthought are teams like Cleveland on the national Level? Ron Darling just got done saying that even though he had heard of Naquin during theseason, he didn't even see Naquin play live until the postseason.
  5. It's kind of funny. Last year, Bryant was the unanimous choice for NL ROY This year, Seager was the unanimous choice for NL ROY And they very well could (and absolutely should) end up 1-2 in NL MVP voting this year.
  6. He'd still drop easy infield fly balls and have range 2-3 steps to the left or right :-)
  7. Gold Glove has gotten better since they started using SABR info as part of the voting. Hosmer being a top 3 finalist at 1B in the AL shows the award still has a ways to go.
  8. Did anyone see 'Goliath' yet?
  9. Dozier didn't deserve silver slugger over Altuve.
  10. We really don't know f he was un-tradeable last year. To know that, we'd have to assume Ryan actually tried to trade him and it seems he didn't, by the quotes I remember.. The question is whether or not a healthy Plouffe goes back to something like 2014 or 2015 Plouffe. If so, 9M will be a bargain for him. Of course, seems most everyone wants Sano at 3B, so maybe we just roll the dice and take our chances by letting Sano play 3B all year.
  11. Officially, not top 3 :-)
  12. Yeah, with our commitment to having the worse defense possible, I concur with having our best defensive 1B, who gets on base better than practically anyone on our team, sit in favor of either the FA signing hat was so bad he had to go down to AAA (Park) or the guy who had a nice 18 games in June and then went back to being what he was in 2015 (Vargas) :-) Unfortunately, it seems the best we are going to get out of Mauer is very good OBP and high quality defense. We make him our main DH, we take anyway one of the two things he has left of value in his game, and replace him with inferior defenders.
  13. http://www.espn.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/id/76285/the-cubs-will-probably-be-a-dynasty-but-nothing-is-guaranteed http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/this-is-how-dynasties-begin/
  14. Love 'The Crown' so far.
  15. no apology needed. I just couldn't see the correlation. Thanks for explaining it.
  16. Yeah, it was an exaggeration to prove a point. Who is our highest prospect at the 1B position? That's the issue when the TEAM has to decide whether or not to make a move. Having a real quality prospect knocking on the door would make the move easy for the team, but that's not the case so their decision is not an easy one right now no matter how many people say it is.
  17. I believe if we had a guy who was a top 1B prospect, it would be an easier decision. 26 year old Vargas isn't that guy. 30 year old Park isn't that guy (at least he won't be that guy whenever we might be contenders). If we had a talent like Rizzo being blocked by Mauer, he wouldn't be blocked by Mauer ;-)
  18. 15 teams in the AL 11th in wRC+ (bottom third) 11th in OBP (bottom third) 13th in K% (bottom third) 8th in AL in HR (average) 8th in AL in OPS (average) 9th in AL in slg% (below average) 9th in runs scored (below average) And most of these guys on offense are the ones that provided the 2nd worst defense in the majors this year.
  19. but you still managed to use the info to try and back up your opinion on the production of Twins DH from 2011-2016. If that data is unreliable, in your opinion, why bother to use it at all? See my point? You want to respond telling me why you think its unreliable, while avoiding the larger question which was why use the info to support an opinion if you dont trust the info?
  20. assuming we have a better option for Mauer and whoever replaces him actually makes our team better. Neither of which seems to be the case at present.
  21. especially when you take into account 1/2 WAR is worth 3.5-4M, yeah.
  22. 'The Crown' was released on Netlix today. I am so looking forward to watching it.
  23. his answer had to be a joke, right? Cause that makes no damn sense.
