  1. when you get a chance you should read through all of Bernardino's tweets today in regards to the FO and what the FO was talking about. And now - Gladden now downplaying analytics at length.
  2. Mike Berardino is a tweeting maniac this afternoon. Going on and on about our FO. Falvey notes the core of both Cubs and Indians last year were homegrown. Falvey: "Ultimately we want to build that (pitching) group from within."
  3. Based on just the value Buxton should provide on his defense alone, I woukd likely try to extend him this year. He is very likely a 3 WAR player right now. I would go out on a limb and say his offense will get a bit better. I have concerns about Sano, so I would wait until he hits arbitration years.
  4. Adding young talent is never irrelevent, especially if using good trade chips who wont be around during compeitive periods. Hard to believe anyone would try and sell the idea that this team doesnt need/shouldn't pursue quality pitching no matter what the circumstance (even if that circumstance is a hypothetical scenario such as position players not panning out).
  5. What depth, in regards to young position players,do we actually have? Some of the higher regarded ones have come up and underwhelmed, to say the least, and the ones in the farm system arent highly regarded. The quality isnt there. We had two good chips to get well regarded pitching. Both will be in our opening day lineup.
  6. are there many/any people saying that this team is truly a 103 loss team? Are any of them people who used baseruns in 2015?
  7. nitpick. I keep reading top 50 pitching prospect. He is a top 50 overall prospect and most listings i have seen have him top 10 pitching prospect.
  8. Well, if the team regresses, I think our record should be much better. IMO, you are spot on in many areas, especially what you wrote in the Castro part of your article.
  9. I think it would be interesting to say our FO was right if, in season one of six controllable seasons, De Leon was bad. That would be holding De Leon to a standard many/most havent been willing to do with our own prospects and doing it in a season where we arent going to be contending any way.
  10. your version of history is interesting Not everyone was using baseruns as the only reason to explain why the talent wasnt as good as the record and no one was saying the record didnt matter. I remember everyone enjoying the winning. Along with pointing out the record we had in May was way out of whack with the rest of our season, many said the overall record didnt give us a true evaluation on talent due to us having good sequencing. Thats how we could be middle of the road,in the AL, for scoring runs, even though when looking at team offensive numbers like obp and ops and such, they were bottom 3rd. But anyway, then you coninued to laugh at those people dismissing their opinions about the talent level during the offseason before last season when they said they would have a losing record this year. You were said playoffs/playoff contenders. How did that work out? Btw, I noticed you pointed to baseruns yourself recently to say we werent as bad last season as our record said. Its interesting
  11. If he has another really good season, I imagine he'll want AT LEAST a four year extension worth a good chunk of cash (if he wants one at all with as far away as we'll be) . Yeah, no thanks for me. I love Dozier. I've been a huge fan since before well before he hit the majors, but for me he's a chip we need to move him for young pitching. I can't imagine his stock going up at all because even if he has a strong season, we'll only have one year of control to trade.
  12. we could very well waste their controllable years taking the snail trail to building an actual decent rotation.
  13. still hoping there are good enouhh to deserve them.
  14. one wonders how many of these projected FAs next year actually end up FA as opposed to signing extensions.
  15. wow, if you want to believe thats what I am saying, whatever. Its not, but whatever.
  16. when did I slam the FO on this? My posts have centered more on what I think Dozier is worth, how I feel about the Dodgers prospects and the amount of players I though were offered. I have also said about 200 times that De Leon for Dozier wouldnt be a good trade for us and that De Leon and junk for Dozier wouldnt be a good trade. I havent been slamming the FO. I am disappointed, though completely unsurprised, nothing got done. My issue stems from people saying dont criticize the FO because we dont know what the offers were and then they pat the FO on the back for standing strong saying it was a 1:1 offer or it was De Leon and junk for Dozier. If we dont know what the offer was, we dont know, right? Cant slam other people criticisms based on those people not knowing exactly what the offers were and then pat the FO on the back, while making your own assumptions about what the offers were, even though you also dont know exactly what the offers were.
  17. Except we don't know that it was De Leon and junk. We don't know what the offer was so how do we know it was junk? Also, there is no consensus on what constitutes junk in regards to the prospects. Additionally, you have no issues slamming people who are criticizing the FO with no idea who the other players offered were and at the same time, also without knowing who the other players offered were, you're comfortable with calling them junk. We know that the offer was built around De Leon. Probably the only true fact we know. Passan's tweet seems to suggest that the 3rd prospect was the issue. Whether that means the 3rd prospect wasn't good enough for the Twins or a 3rd prospect wasn't being offered, we don't know. Either way, I'm comfortable saying that there was more than one player offered, though AGAIN, not sure.
  18. The ROTATION had the worst ERA by .20. 5.39 is pathetic. Of course, having the 2nd worst defense in baseball didn't help. By FIP, the worst rotation was the Reds. The Twins and Royals ONLY tied for being the next worse by FIP. But other than that, I too am having issues wrapping my head around the idea this team is about to turn things around because young guys are getting older and the rotation was somehow not as bad as they were. I also wonder about how drastic the difference behind the plate will be, Mostly, the talent just isn't there, IMO. I was saying this towards the end of 2015 and during the offseason before 2016 too.
  19. yeah, I do. I also know that it has continued and the people running the Rays probably didn't just forgeet it all. Could be wrong though.
  20. As a team with a very good track record for identifying and developing starters, Rays GM said of the trade,'The way we have him evaluated and his proximity to the big leagues, it was an opportunity we couldn't pass up as an organization.'
  21. they are both interesting viewpoints.
  22. it was Jeff Sullivan who wrote the first piece, not Zimmerman And in Dave's piece, he said, as he said before, that De Leon is an overpay for Forsythe.
  23. most posters DO realize these things, but they also realize there are only so many ways to get quality pitching. Our draft and development has failed forever, and we wont sign top notch starters (cause, again, price too high except in the case of FA, price is too high in actual money as opposed to a player). So we have to take chances on trading for young pitchers. Especially ones as well regarded as De Leon. If we always on how bad they COULD be and that stops us from trading for them, then we really restrict our ability to improve our rotation. As if we werent already hampered enough by what our team will spend.
  24. I never said I thought the Dodgers were offering three players. I said I thought two players were being offered and the hold up was the third player (meaning either the Dodgers were not offering a 3rd piece at all and the Twins wanted one, or the Dodgers were offering a 3rd player and the Twins didnt like the player). In either of those scenarios, the 2nd piece isnt insignificant and it makes the offer more than De Leon straight up. It doesnt mean the 2nd and 3rd pieces are both insignificant.
