    So I mentioned after the 2015 season that Gibson was showing signs of getting worse and that we should trade him because some might be fooled by the ERA. Then, before the 2016 season,I picked him as the pitcher that would most disappoint (along with Rosario as the batter that would be the most disappointing). And he continues to stink...

    Our announcers said Hicks is used almost always as a right handed batter. He has 3 more PAs batting left handed and he's batting better as a left handed batter. Love the dedicated research they do before games to give us facts.

    My eyes must be completely out of whack. Sano still looks huge (around the weight he was reported when he got to ST) and his fielding is still looking shaky. Maybe he set the bar so very low, that any improvement looks massive to some, I don't know. We already knew he could do well on slow hit balls that he could come in on, which is fine. His range is still very limited.

    Ozzie is the best defensive shortstop of all time and is 6th all time in bWAR for shortstops at 76.5.

    #4 in our system because our system is, well, underwhelming. I am surprised he isnt #1 in here cause most propsect listing seem to think he is our top guy. He likely is our best prospect, which is sad. We have been drafting pretty high lately and the results have been underwhelming to say the least.

    He was our best overall option for shortstop and still is. That's on the front offices not Molitor.

    Vargas did well in July and then went right back to being Vargas. I agree we should give him a real shot, but I imagine we'll move on after this season.

    And a lot of people viewed him as a DH cause they saw him play 3B.

    3 year/24.5M is not a big contract. It's a rather small FA contract for a starting veteran player. He was worth over 9M last year and over 11M in each of the two previous seasons (and I doubt his pitch framing skill was included since it's based on his WAR which didn't have framing included). If he's not really a low 1 WAR player like Fangraphs says, and more of a 2-3 WAR player when taking into acount the framing like Baseball Prospectus attempts to do, then this deal looks extremely good for the Twins.

    That and his lateral movement is weak. Of course, when he does make a fairly routine play on a ball like, say, going three steps to his right, fielding it, then taking 3 more steps to stop his momentum to plant and throw (barely getting the runner because of his great arm) the play is regarded as awesome :-)

    A 13 man start would be a horrible idea considering AL teams also have to employ a DH. Means, besides the guy on the mound, we have only 3 bench spots (and one has to be a catcher). Then again, I've been pushing for a 26 or 27 man roster to adapt to the changing baseball world for quite some time.

    Danny Santana isn't IF depth or IF insurance. He's horrible on IF defense but thankfully for us he is able to fall back on not being able to hit.

    I never felt like I was getting old until right around the time turned 45.

    He had four good years with the Rockies (2010-2013). Then an off year in 2014, then a couple decent bounce back seasons. It's a good signing, IMO.

    Well, not sure that says anything about him/his ability, actually. It's unfortunate you thought that because he's pitched well the last couple years. Getting out of Colorado was good for him.

    You mean xFIP if I'm trying to find out what the pitchers numbers would have looked like if he hadn't given up so many HR or so FEW HR? I'll stick to looking at what he actually did to find out how he actually performed. If I'm looking to find out how he may do in future years, I'll check out xFIP. But I wasn't look at how Santiago might do, I was looking at how he actually did. Sierra argues that pitchers can control the types of balls in play they allow, even if they can not control the outcome of those balls. I'm not ready to give into that belief just yet even if I believe that MAYBE a SMALL AMOUNT of pitchers can do that. So FIP it is for me. In this situation.

    I'll use what I think is best, thanks. In this case, I'm not looking at predictive, I'm looking at actual performance and I believe FIP does a better job. If you like Sierra, go for it. I don't buy some of it's assumptions.
