    What did you think I meant in the post of mine you quoted when I wrote: 'Yes, by extending Hughes, Ryan made a very obvious and predictable mistake (not the first FO to do so), but he's not here any more.' Does it look like I blamed anyone else for the extension? I was very vocal in my disgust on that decision that moment we knew it had been made; HOWEVER... My issue is with Terry being blamed for Hughes still being on the roster. Ryan left the GM chair midseason of 2016. Hughes still being on the team, instead of being released since then, falls on new management.

    Last year the new FO was in charge. Hughes stayed on the roster. If he stays on the roster this year, it'll be because of the new FO. Unless you think Pohlad is making them keep Hughes, in which case, what makes you think Pohlad didn't have Ryan do the same? Yes, by extending Hughes, Ryan made a very obvious and predictable mistake (not the first FO to do so), but he's not here any more.

    Title of the topic should read 'Altuve gets a huge contract.'. Distracted typing is bad typing, especially when you're a bad typist to begin with :-) ANYWAY: Altuve's years of great play got hugely rewarded today when he received a 5/151 contract from the Astros. Very happy for him and kudos to the Astros for stepping up and getting that done.

    exactly this, though one might wonder if it's because Hawking is British. But we gave state honors to a preacher. I couldn't believe that. Then again, I'm sure nut job Pence was involved in that decision.

    Oh, and Fangraphs doesn't determine what a player is worth. It determines a player's WAR and the market determines what 1 WAR is worth based on contracts given.

    Pineda may have given up the same amount of HR at home as on the road last year, but he also had three more starts at home and faced 70 more batters. And how much were his numbers affected by injury?

    I think some forget how much money is in the game and how little 7-8M a year gets you most of the time in regards to veteran FAs. Mauer was worth over 16M last year. If he has another year like last year with the BA/OBP and defense, he should be able to get more than that. But we'll see cause he'll be at least as good this year, and probably better.

    yeah, I am not sure how you look at what I wrote (and you quoted)about Gibson and then write what you did. What logic did you see in that quote that makes you compare what I said about Gibson to May. His bWAR? Couldn't have been bWAR (cause I don't use bWAR to back up opinions). Nor was it fWAR. I didn't mention WAR at all. I don't know how anyone compares the bWAR or fWAR between these two pitchers. Gibson has been given tons of starts, May was given half a season worth of starts then relegated to the bullpen and then been injured.

    Neither one of those two are anywhere near Ohtani's talent. That's why they were so inexpensive. Ohtani will need some adjustment time. None of this should be surprising.
