  1. baby steps, certainly :-)
  2. Still waiting for the Suzuki extension of the extension. :-)
  3. Just for fun. In 2007, our rotation was 9th in the AL in WAR (11.7) with a 4.38 FIP in 967 IP. In 2008, our rotation was 9th in the AL in WAR (11.4) with a 4.32 FIP in 959 IP.
  4. I don't think we can really say the Capps trade got us to the playoffs. He was with us for two months, had only 27 appearances for us (only 27 innings), and we won the division by 6 games. No way the difference between Rauch and Capps for 27 innings equates to 6 wins. Also, at the time of the trade (4 months into a 6 month season), we had lost one game in which Rauch had been brought in to get a save. One game.
  5. The Span trade was good in theory and horrible in execution. It's possible to acknowledge the idea was good (and applaud the attempt) and still accept the fact that the guy traded for (Meyer) is almost assuredly a bust and therefore was probably not the right guy to trade for. Or, at least, it SHOULD be possible. As far as May, May isn't in the rotation because the team decided that he needed to be in the pen. For the team to feign disappointment that he isn't in the rotation as a permanent member yet is hilarious since it was their decision and their poor roster construction that made it happen.
  6. How is this team now on pace to finish above .500
  7. Nunez is tied for 33rd in WAR for AL position players because defense counts too. How many position players originally make an All Star team (before all the injuries start knocking them out)? A player can be having a good season and still not be more worthy of an All Star spot than players who are more deserving that don't make it. Examples: Longoria. Tied for 10th in WAR, not on the All Star team.. Kyle Seager. 14th in WAR, not on All Star team. Kipnis (tied for 15th), Kinsler (tied for 15th), Correa (17th). Pedroia (18th). None on the All Star team. And if it's just about offense, Kinsler, Seager and Longoria (along with some other IFs not on the All Star team ) ahead of Nunez in wRC+.
  8. White Sox have a bad roster and Cleveland has the pitching. It's why I picked Cleveland to win the division and the White Sox and Twins to battle for the basement.
  9. Of that list, I'd have Giolito easily at #1. And I doubt the Nats even consider the trade. I think he'll be an absolute beast.
  10. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=of&stats=fld&lg=all&qual=300&type=1&season=2016&month=0&season1=2016&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&sort=10,d&page=4_30 106 OF have played 300 or more innings in the OF this year. Sano is 99th in DRS (-8) even though he only has 313 innings in the field, Grossman (at -9 DRS) is tied with one other for 100th. Their range is ranked similarly to others at their position. Their UZRs are about the same. The bottom 4 players (all at -11), in the bottom all have more than 400 innings in the field, 3 have more than 500 innings in the field, 1 has almost 700. Both of our guys, if they had 500 or more innings played in the OF, would likely sit in the bottom two spots. Neither should be playing in the OF and thank goodness, one likely won't ever do so again.
  11. DRS is cumulative and Grossman has played more innings in LF than Sano in RF. I have every confidence if Sano had as many innings in RF as Grossman does in LF, they would be tied. Also, they play different positions so are compared against different groups of players. The real take away from your post is that Grossman is pretty much equally as horrible in the OF as Sano is.
  12. Mine do. We have family game nights. Current favorite: Catan.
  13. They need the new park to be able to be competitive :-)
  14. I think it's quite possible that TR over-values his players and isn't in touch with reality when figuring out what his players are actually worth. Probably why his trades are almost always of the non-impact kind.
  15. I imagine it's more like destined for DH, myself. And yeah, I'm as thrilled about Kepler's ability as I have been for some time.
  16. I thought Arcia updates weren't supposed to be posted here any more per moderator warning on this thread. 'If you want to continue discussions about this move, do so here (there was a hyper-link when originally posted by the moderator, but it falls in the 'other baseball' forum titled, I believe, 'Tracking Arcia'). If all you want to do is post Arcia updates, do so in this new thread started to track Arcia. If you continue to post updates here, they will either be deleted or moved ... depending on my mood.'
  17. He was a manager choice. A good chunk of those, when they aren't picking their own players, are the mandatory one player from each team pick (especially when it comes to position players). In this case, the AL Manager picked two position players. The As' lone representative and the Twins' lone representative. As far as IF snubbed: Kyle Seager (who isn't on the final vote ballot?) Longoria, Correa (also not on the final vote ballot), Kinsler, Pedroia. One of those gets picked if the one player rule isn't in effect. I'm glad Nunez got it, and I'm happy for him, but he's not better than those guys.
  18. No, it's a Nunez impostor. He had the double and his helmet stayed on his head!
  19. There's an impostor on the field!
  20. I watched the game yesterday
  21. If any normal person who had access to classified material had done what she did they'd go to jail. If in the military, you'd get court martialed for sure. You see, people who have access to classified get training on how to deal with classified material. When someone does what she did it IS a crime. Saying you didn't know better isn't an excuse. One should expect even more from someone in her position with the levels of classified she has access to and possibly will in the future. On the bright side, anyone who does the same thing can point to this situation and say, 'Hey, apparently doing what I did isn't a crime because, hey, you didn't prosecute Mrs. Clinton for doing the same thing.'
  22. I wish I could say the same. This kind of futility is just a bit too much. I expect young guys to struggle, sure, but he just strikes out way too much, and most of his PA he seems to have no chance at. No plan, nothing. This guy is supposed to be a super-stud according to everyone (Top 2 prospect 3 years in a row. Another year in top 20), but there's nothing on offense. He's doing worse this year than last.
  23. Why would they need to?
  24. Could just let Sano DH until Plouffe gets traded (if he gets traded).
