  1. I agree about the players I didn't mention. I'd trade any of them. I'll respectfully disagree on Arraez.
  2. I'm with most on here - it's time to spend some of the minor league wealth. The Twins have more than a 90% chance of winning the division. If they are going to make a trade, they need to get players who can make an impact in the playoffs. They need an experienced, high-leverage RP, no doubt. I'd take a #2/#3 SP but nothing less. Adding bullpen depth is okay too - but for me, adding someone for the late innings is the priority. There will be a premium paid for these trades. That's fine. I just hope they trade from depth. The Twins have depth at C, corner OF, 1B and middle IF. If the Twins make a big trade, I'd rather see the prospects from this list: LarnachDiaz/RookerRortvedt/Jeffers/Astudillo (I'm a big fan of Rortvedt, so that might cause some emotional damage. I'll get over it.)Gordon/Javier/BlankenhornAlcala/Colina/Enlow/Any AAA SPThan from this list: GraterolBalazovicKirilloffLewis/ArraezArraez and Cave could be needed this year. Once July 30th passes, there will be no options to get another player. You could add Astudillo but the Twins have two solid C and could weather the loss of one. I also think Astudillo is at peak trade value right now. I'd only trade Graterol or Balazovic if the Twins got a SP under control for multiple years in return. How do folks feel about keeping Larnach v. Kirilloff?
  3. Adding Arraez and a healthy Rooker hasn't hurt them either. And one more solid start from Sean Poppen and I'll want a "Poppen Fresh" t-shirt.
  4. Blankenhorn might need to go to AAA in July if he keeps this up. No sense letting him continue to dominate AA without the need for plate discipline. The "AAAA" pitchers in the International League will probably teach him a lesson on plate management. He's had enough success this year that I don't think it will affect him if he struggles a bit at AAA.
  5. Nice analysis of potential RP help from the farm. I was surprised how hard Littell threw in his relief outings with the Twins. He has a chance once he gets used to airing it out. I like the Thorpe idea too. Balazovic and Duran are a good story. The rest of the Ft Myers rotation is interesting as well. I became a fan of Colina at the end of last year. Cut down his walks. He gave up three today but he's been good since his awful first start. Add in Cole Sands and you have an interesting - and young - front four.
  6. Except Arraez is the first Twins call-up if an IF goes on the IL. The best teams maintain AAA depth for a long season. I wouldn't trade Cave either. The trade deadline is July 30 this year. That's two months where it will not be easy to find a replacement if there are an injury or two.
  7. I think the Twins might still have signed Cron anyway. Sano's status was uncertain at the end of the offseason. It might have meant that Cave would have been on the roster instead of Astudillo. IMO, Esco is the better player. But the Twins also received Duran, Maciel and Ernie De La Trinidad in the trade. In the end, the Twins paid $7M for the three prospects (Esco 3/$21M, Gonzalez 2/$21M). I wish we still had Escobar, but Duran will make it worthwhile if reaches his potential. And Marwin is plenty good.
  8. I think he's already there. The problem is the major league team needs pitching help. The Twins have depth at C and OF, especially LHB corner OF. True impact pitchers are going to be expensive mid-season. That said, I'd hate to see any of the top 5 prospects go for rentals.
  9. MadBum's cost will come with a hefty premium. A lot of teams are looking for a SP. Phillies, Yankees, Braves, Cardinals and maybe the Astros are all candidates. Add Will Smith and you're talking a lot of prospects. The Giants might get Larnach and Duran at the top of the deal for both pitchers. A high-floor OF and a high risk SP, both with upside. Probably have to include a player or two from the next tier - maybe Celestino and/or Blankenhorn? Their top prospect is a catcher so I don't think they'd ask for Rortvedt or Jeffers. What do others think about including Javier or Kirilloff instead of Larnach? That might be the price. It's really hard to predict because the final deal will depend on the number of suitors.
  10. It's great to have Colina back in the rotation at Fort Myers. He was getting his act together at the end of last season. One shaky start to begin 2019 but all good since.
  11. There is no savings. They are allowed to spend their own money up to their limit. It is an upper boundary. Drafted player bonuses, as Tom F said, are an incredibly solid investment. There is no incentive for teams to not spend money on prospects.
  12. Next year's expanded roster might allow an awful team to stash someone like Raley, or maybe even Blankenhorn or Diaz. I could see Raley selected by Baltimore or SF.
  13. I didn't even mention Blankenhorn... Welcome back to top-prospect land, Travis!
  14. Interesting list of hitters. A few tips of the hat: Lewin Diaz - I hope they move him to Pensacola soon. He needs to face pitchers who will force him to be more selective. He pretty much destroyed A+ ball in May.Aaron Whitefield - I have no idea why I cheer for the Aussies. Maybe because they aren't from a baseball hotbed. He's still only 22 and seems to be a legit defensive CF. Still too many Ks but he's making progress. I'm happy for the guy.Luke Raley - Honorable Mention? The guy just doesn't get enough love. Too many Ks here too, but plenty to like. Jaylin Davis - He has methodically made his way through the system. Time to move him to AAA - whenever they feel Larnach is ready for Pensacola. He might end up a AAAA OF, but I'm cheering for him. I'm aware the last three players are not top prospects. They deserve some respect because they're making themselves hard to replace. Thanks for the work, Seth!
  15. Trevor Larnach says, "hold my beer": .366/.450/.624 (1.074) Seriously, I agree with Diaz for the award. But they have both had an incredible month.
  16. I don't mind that the casual fans vote. MLB wants those folks to watch the game. Besides, they've only made a couple of big misses the past two years. Worthy players still get selected as reserves if the fans make a mistake. My guesses for Twins All-Stars (none will be voted in): Polanco should be voted in but will end up as a reserve. One of the OF should make the team. IMO, Rosario is most deserving but Buxton might be the selection. He has the ability to make a memorable defensive play, which might sway the commissioner's office. (There are exciting plays other than Ks and HRs)Both Odorizzi and Berrios deserve to make the team. They are ranked as the 7th and 8th best SP by FanGraphs WAR. It's more likely only one SP will be selected. I guess Berrios.By my count, only three make it. Who knows? A lot can change in the next three weeks.
  17. Baldelli has done a fine job managing the bullpen. But honestly, the starters have made the job a lot easier in 2019. The Twins have the 2nd fewest IP by a bullpen this year. Add another 40 IP for the RP and Baldelli's job gets tougher.
  18. My guess is George Kirby, SP from Elon. Velocity and spin rate. Prototypical SP size at 6'4" and 210 lbs. Jung seems like the other good bet if he makes it to #13.
  19. My two cents worth of comments/predictions: Sammons was a prescient pick - no argument there.Lewin Diaz should be the next one to move up. He can rotate between DH and 1B, while Kirilloff moves between 1B and RF.I thought the Twins might promote Jaylin Davis with both Rooker and Raley on the IL. He's high on my list too.Cole Sands is ready for a promotion to Fort Myers. He's almost 22 and has a very good 28 K%/6 BB% and 2.24 FIP at Cedar Rapids.Trevor Larnach could probably survive AA pitching right now. I predict he moves to Pensacola at the end of June. Ryan Jeffers might see Pensacola at the break. Once there, he'll again share C duties with Rortvedt. Nice to have two solid catching prospects entering the advanced minor league levels. The Twins farm system has a log jam at C, 1B and corner OF. Some roster moves need to happen at AA and AAA by mid-Summer. Either some org guys will be cut or a trade will be made. Otherwise, there's no room for JDavis, Larnach, Diaz and Jeffers to advance.
  20. In 2017, 26 percent of all major league pitchers had underwent Tommy John surgery in their careers. https://tht.fangraphs.com/ten-interesting-facts-about-tommy-john-surgery/ Teams should review their training programs, especially when velo increase is a major focus. But every team struggles with this.
  21. Well done, Cody. Just as remarkable, the Twins are hitting the ball hard but not striking out. They have the third lowest K% in the majors at 19.5%. They are waiting for their pitch and nailing it, whether it's the 1st pitch of the at bat or the end of a long count. That takes talent, preparation and patience.
  22. I didn't expect what he's doing either. He's put in the work, both in the offseason and with Wes Johnson. Every pitch looks more crisp. His velo is up almost 3 mph on his curveball and 1-1.5 mph on every other pitch. And he taught Martin Perez his cutter. Outstanding.
  23. Great analysis, as always, Parker. Buxton has worked hard to improve his swing, he's healthy and now he's confident at the plate. A great combination.
