  1. This all stems from Fernando Rodney. A closer who consistently blows games tears the heart out of a team. Wins are instantly turned into losses. It happened with Ron Davis and it's happening again.
  2. Can't watch Rodney pitch. Can't do, it can't do it, won't do it.
  3. I don't trust Rodney and won't watch him pitch. He's a heart attack on the mound. I predict he will not be the closer at the end of the season.
  4. ""Nothing Falls But Raindrops" outfield..." Except when Grossman is playing. He's a brutal outfielder.
  5. If he has a year like last year the Twins might offer 2 yrs at $7-8M per year. If not he'll retire. I can't see him playing anywhere else for any price.
  6. Hero worship is for the young and naive. The older I get the less I believe in heroes, especially among athletes and celebrities. And I have never looked at modern politicians as heroes. Call it experience. The sooner you realize that they're just humans with the same flaws as everyone else the better off you'll be.
  7. I like Reusse most of the time but life is too short to waste it reading Souhan. Too much pious virtue signalling from him.
  8. I was at the game and called Jackson's HR. Boshers should have been yanked after he walked the lefty he was brought in to face.
  9. Torii Hunter was never able to lay off the low outside slider. Until Sano learns to lay off the garbage he's going to keep getting garbage.
  10. I've certainly seen enough of him. Usually he waits until the 4th inning to implode. He's useless.
  11. We left the game when Kintzler gave up the leadoff hit in the ninth. I simply can't watch that guy pitch. I used to do the same thing with Guardado. It's maddening to see him put guys on base almost every single outing.
  12. I keep hearing that Buxton's "stroke" is the problem. That his swing is too long to succeed in the majors. If that's true, why didn't they notice that and correct it while he was in the minors?
  13. Scouting reports get around quickly. How many times did Torii strike out on that low outside breaking pitch he couldn't reach with a canoe paddle?
  14. Might work to their advantage. I doubt they'll play two tomorrow on get-away day so it looks like a make up in June or August. They'll draw a lot more fans than they would have tonight. We were at last night's game and there were probably 1,000 fans left at the end. Edited - game was just postponed. Will be made up as a split doubleheader June 17.
  15. Then why is he on the roster? Yes, I know, he was a great player, he's a nice guy, lots of #7 jerseys to sell and $46M left to pay. They're stuck with him.
  16. Mauer has always been coddled by the Twins. Home town boy. MVP. Batting champ. He's still the face of the team to the casual fan. I'll bet half the jerseys in the stands are #7. But he's a shadow of his prime. And they don't seem to want to address his declining skills. Sitting him out to "rest" him is a face-saving measure for both Mauer and the team. Knowing how great he was makes it hard to watch him now. Especially when he doesn't even try to make adjustments.
  17. Dick rarely says anything remotely critical of a Twin so I was surprised by even the mild comment. Gladden's usually the only one who makes a biting comment once in awhile.
  18. Reusse made a comment today that if Bert and Jack are criticizing Joe, they must have permission from the Twins to do it. Maybe they're using a back channel to get the message across.
  19. Baseball is a game of adjustments. The defenses adjusted to where Mauer hits the ball. Now Mauer needs to adjust. But he won't. And it seems that no one on the team will suggest it.
  20. I only saw his last AB tonight - hard line drive to left center, center fielder who was playing there didn't have to move a step. Meanwhile, right field remains wide open. Joe. Won't. Adjust. That's the whole problem I have with him. I really hope Jack & Bert keep the discussion going. My only quibble with Bert is that he said Joe is an All-Star. No, he WAS an All-Star. Big difference.
  21. Mauer's approach should have changed when he discovered that those fly balls that landed in the first two rows in LF at the Dome were being caught on the warning track at Target Field. It should have changed when the opposing left fielders started playing 15 feet off the line to take away those fly ball doubles. It should have changed when they gave him almost all of RF to hit to. It should have changed when he realized, or maybe he hasn't, that he doesn't have MVP talent anymore. But, it won't change.
  22. Buxton shows that September stats should always be taken with many, many grains of salt.
  23. I'm not convinced Polanco has enough arm for SS. He seems to know it too and rushes his throws. Hopefully they'll be able to keep Adrianza in AAA as a backup. Dozier could still be dealt during the season with Polanco moved to 2B.
