  1. I'd just like to see him try something different at the plate for once. Stop letting the first pitch go by. He used to be a great two-strike hitter. He's not anymore. Whatever that pitch is that he always grounds to 2B, STOP SWINGING AT IT! He still seems to think he's MVP Joe and his approach to hitting doesn't need to change. His numbers show that's not true. Does management even suggest it to him?
  2. Plouffe got too muscular and bulky which made him injury prone. And he became the slowest Twin since Matt Lecroy. I would've like to have seen Walker get a few big league AB's last fall.
  3. Going into the series I didn't really care who won. But the over-the-top media pro-Cubs frenzy drove me into the Indians camp.
  4. He said it on the radio last week.
  5. I think the only team that would take him would be Boston. They can afford him and those medium-deep fly balls to LF would turn out well in Fenway. But, he's got a no trade contract and he's the hometown hero here no what his production is.
  6. Reusse predicted Mauer would retire after the season due to leg problems. Don't whether he was serious or just trolling.
  7. I'd like to see Mauer at least TRY to do something different at the plate. Grounders to 2B and fly balls to LF just aren't cutting it. Try pulling the ball, swing at that cookie first pitch, stop swinging at whatever that pitch is that he grounds to 2B. What worked in his prime isn't working anymore. Try something else.
  8. Some players can/will make adjustments. Some can't/won't.
  9. The problem is in red. They're stuck with Mauer's mediocrity for two more seasons. They could get some real pitching help for $23M/year. Damn no-trade contract. Without him their IF would be Sano/Vargas 1B/DH, Dozier 2B, Escobar SS, Polanco 3B, Santana utility. OF of Rosario, Buxton & Kepler. Trade Plouffe for whatever they can get. He's become too muscular and injury prone. He's also become the slowest Twin since Matt LeCroy. Mauer is a wet blanket over the whole team. They'll never compete until he's gone. Just heard Reusse predict that Mauer would retire after this season because of bad legs. I'll believe that when I see it. Fingers crossed.
  10. "It would be fun to watch a chase for 700 wins." Wins? Did the Germans bomb Pearl Harbor too?
  11. NO ONE wants a guy who makes $23M/yr and seems perfectly content to bat .270, 10 HR, 60 RBI. And he would veto any trade attempt because he knows he would be savaged anywhere but in his home state.
  12. I don't think there's much mgmt can do other than start throwing big money at top free agents in the off-season, which they've never done. None of their players have much trade value. Their strategy for the past several years has been basically "Wait till Buxton and Sano get here". Well, they're here and they're not doing much. Now what? They gambled on Buxton and Sano just like they gambled on Morneau and Mauer. The jury's still out on B & S but the M & M gamble was a bust because of Morneau's injuries and Mauer deciding that .270, 10 HR, 70 RBI is just fine for $21M/year, no need to change his approach. So they're stuck hoping that their current young talent will blossom. But that's what they were relying on for this season and it didn't happen. That's a tough sell for fans who are rapidly losing patience.
  13. Why is it that relievers seem to appear from nowhere to be great for awhile and then turn awful at the snap of a finger? Jepsen was great last year and awful this year.
  14. He won't get many doubles down the LF line anymore because they're playing him about 15 feet off the line. Is he even capable of pulling the ball other than grounders to 2B? Does he even try? He's the master of the "useless hit". Doesn't get hits when the game is close but always when behind 8-2 in the 8th. But he's untouchable to mgmt.
  15. The youngsters need to play every day. The question is should it be in AAA or the majors? Is flailing away in the majors better than doing well in AAA? Personally I think TR gave in to fan pressure and rushed everyone up before they were ready.
  16. "Baseball, like life, is all about adjustments, and hopefully these young players will be able to do just that." Exactly. The league has learned how to pitch to these guys - low outside breaking balls to Sano, anything but strikes to Rosario, any breaking ball to Buxton, no more high inside fastballs to Dozier. It's frustrating to see the lack of adjustment by them in return.
  17. I think their "plan" was simply for the younger players to get better. Rosario & Sano had good years but pitchers have learned their weaknesses and they haven't adjusted. Sano apparently did nothing in the off season except gain weight. Rosario will swing at anything. Buxton & Kepler should spend most of the year in AAA learning to hit instead of flailing away in the majors. We're seeing the peril of having a young, immature, inexperienced team with no leadership on the field. They really miss Hunter. Remember 1982 and 102 losses with young Hrbek, Gaetti, Brunansky, Laudner, & Viola. It's takes times for youngsters to figure it out. And sometimes they never do.
  18. Buxton only has 55 AB in AAA. He's going to struggle at the plate. I think they're rushing him to appease the fans. But with Sano lumbering around RF they need his range in CF.
  19. Arcia is out of options so he'll either be on the roster or traded. Kepler came up from AA at the end of last season so he could use some time at Rochester. He'll be up before long. Mastroianni is only around in case EVERYONE gets hurt.
  20. We usually get there around 10AM. To avoid the traffic and parking hassle we park at the Publix shopping center at the corner of Daniels Pkwy & Six Mile Cyprus and walk the 3/4 mile to the stadium.
  21. Sun Harvest is great but extremely crowded after games. Free ice cream tickets when you order tickets online and have them mailed. We're going to games 8th, 9th & 11th. We get there at least two hours before game time to watch the workouts on the other fields. To avoid the $10 parking fee we park at a shopping center at Daniels & 6 Mile Cyprus and walk.
  22. We've been going to ST since 2002. We schedule it so we go to three games. We usually spend one day at the beach and have discovered it's much easier, faster and less nerve wracking to walk over the bridge than drive and look for parking. We park in a free lot off Main St. just before the big San Carlos bridge. It's less than a mile to the beach. And we discovered a great little place -Bonita Bill's Waterfront Cafe under the north end of the bridge.
  23. I have a feeling he'll be back at DH before the end of May. I don't think the Korean guy will be able to hit major league pitching. Look for Kepler to be in RF.
  24. Are the Twins actually trying to DO something about the Mauer problem? Have they suggested that maybe he should change his approach? Stop taking that first pitch down the middle? Pull the ball into the huge right-center gap they're giving him? Have they mentioned to him that his production is simply not good enough for a #3 hitter? Maybe this is being done behind the scenes but they really seem to be afraid of addressing the problem. And it IS a problem.
