  1. It baffles me that you are in strong wild card position and choose to start a pitcher that does knot have a major league future. Are they playing games, or what? What about the philosophy of best players play? This is what makes fans so suspicious of Pohlad run teams. So disappointing!!
  2. We are not a small market team.....we are a mid-market team. I think we are somewhere in the 12th rated tv market.
  3. Great article Nick....really liked the article.
  4. Read Rand's article in today's paper...especially the comments.
  5. If the Twins think they will be serious contenders next year then I think Santana will remain on the team. It is too hard to find a front line pitcher like Santana. The Santana situation will tell a lot on how the front office views next season.
  6. As a long time reader and listener of Ruesse I find him to be a very negaive person. And the names that he has called people over the years is very disturbing. If I had a vote it would be a no because of his verbal abuse toward certain individuals.
  7. Even the athletes at the academies are trained like all of the other cadets, midshipmen, etc. They could major in electrical engineering, accounting and other reputable majors. And they spend their summers training In in their respective fields.....like a tank commander. So they are prepared for leadership whether an athlete or not.
  8. Agree with all of the above especially the observation of Smalley. However, don't like TK as I find him with too much of a subtle ego. An example is refferring to Bremer as Richard instead of Dick. I do agree that the radio guys are better.
  9. Why not? I thought the best players play....
  10. In Buxton's case it could a matter of the old adage...." He couldn't hit the curve ball". Before advanced analytics how many times have we heard this statement over the years. Compare Buxton to Robbie Grossman.....Robbie has a real feel for hitting and bat control whereas Buxton doesn't. It's possible Buxton could find the stroke but most likely not. It's almost like putting in golf or scoring goals in hockey....some have a better feel than others. Let's hope it works out!
  11. Our society in general is way too sensitive. Kinsler just gave an honest opinion of his view on how to play the game of baseball. This is just another example of "creating news".
  12. Common Man...are you serious?
  13. The key point is that Joe is playing a position that could be considered a "development position". It is a position that others need to play in order to develop. Especially Vargas and a few others. Joe should be driving in more runs....considering the position he plays in the field and his position in the batting order.
  14. This should come as a relief to all of us who were worried that Jim Pohlad didn't have the baseball acumen to make the right call. This is a quote from above......Jim Pohlad baseball acumen? Really?
  15. Parker, I didn't explain myself well. I meant that you like the technical part of the game. Which is good. Yes, there is way too much stuff flowing into Berrios' head at this time.
  16. Parker is way too technical....and I know he likes this stuff. There is too much on Berrios' plate right now. Like the the old golf pro Bob Toski(before Leadbettter and Butch Harmon) he said you can have, "paralysis from over over analysis". Pitching is really a free flowing motion...like the golf swing each individual has his own little quirks and idiosyncrasies.
  17. It would be nice if somehow Major League Baseball could take the franchise away from the Pohlads. As long as they are in charge the future is bleak.
  18. Your not serious about this? Anthony is not a baseball guy; he was hired by Terry Ryan out of the U of Minn. and trained by Terry. We need a Tony LaRussa type as a president of baseball operations. I probably missed your point, or humor.
  19. The organization definitely needs new leadership. The culture is wrong......it is now one of losing. A few years ago I listened to a round table during spring training and Terry Ryans name came up..the panelists all liked Terry, but didn't think he was suited to the role of a modern day GM. They specifically mentioned the Houston GM who would have multiple deals going at the same time. Terry doesn't think or work that way which is probably a disadvantage for the Twins. I think Terry says money is no object in putting a roster together but it probably is.... Not only do we need new management, but the optimum solution would be interested ownership.
  20. The best bet for Noalsco is that he pitches brilliantly and someone takes him off our hands at the trade deadline (and Milone could be a factor then, too, as he'll be too expensive to bring back AFTER next season. But the further evelopment or usage of May and Meyer will determine moves of that sort. I think somebody in the organization at one time mentioned that a few contracts could be eaten---meaning Noalsco. And I also think that they will pay Milone the going rate. He lends stability to the staff.
  21. With all of the position prospects coming up this year and next season, I feel success will still be determined by pitching....as always. Seth, who are the top pitching prospects with a good chance of developing into top-end starters? And will money be a factor in bringing them up because on Nolesco and Santana?
  22. A few years ago while in Florida I listened to a panel discussion on the Twins and Terry Ryan was brought up. The panelists all like Terry and thought he is a good baseball man. But he doesn't like the wheeling and dealing that some of the young GM's are doing. Some have four or five things cooking at once and Terry is not comfortable with that type of thing. Many of those GM's have assistants that are experienced baseball people that do this type of work. Does Anthony have a baseball background? I like the idea of bringing in an experienced guy, like the ex Angel GM.
  23. The start of the collapse was the relief pitching... more specifically, Tompson's walk. As far as Hicks is concerned, simply put, " he can't hit the curve ball". I don't know if he will ever be able to ......
  24. If they hold back Meyer he should ask for a trade. I always thought that the best players play. Ryan should quit fooling around with their futures. How you think Myers feels watching those other guys being called up? Hard throwing pitchers should always be brought up early because of potential arm problems.
  25. It will all boil down to whether he can hit the curve ball.
