  1. Like it or not, Rocco is going to have to be pretty careful with the pen. We play 10 straight games and only have a couple relievers that we can ride in situations like that. Guys like Hildy have to come through. He didn't unfortunately. He's also come through at other times this year, so I'm not quite ready to give up on him... one thing that does seem rather odd is that he's not as good starting clean innings than as when coming in during a bad one. Not quite sure what to make of that... SSS I know, but he's given up a lot of runs when he's had time to warm up.
  2. Rooker is also slightly more than 3 years younger than the league average. That is worth noting as well. He's done nothing but destroy pitching so far and each time he goes up a level, he swings and misses a lot... but over the year, it tends to drop... I think the K rate is still concerning, but I'm hoping it's dropping because he's being that student of the game that people keep saying he is... If that's how he learns, so be it... just means his first few ML seasons may be a bit rough.
  3. I'm not sure the Twins should be targeting a reclamation project for the 5th spot... The more I think about it, if they keep winning, I'm not sure I'd target a 5th starter unless he's under control for more seasons. At the rate things are going, the central will be wrapped up by July... and if that's the case, I'd be more interested in acquiring guys who will help this team advance deep in the playoffs (aka. RP help).
  4. His MO is to strike out a lot at a new level and then slowly bring them down over time. To that extent, I'm not worried just yet... I do think, however, that none of us will like his ML debut. Now that said, if it's a new level thing or a consistent spring thing, I don't think we know the answer to that. That's probably a bigger deal. It will be interesting to see how handles repeating a level, b/c I suspect he starts next year in AAA again.
  5. To be clear Tom, I'm not quite sure this deathstar is fully operational just yet... Still got one more key piece on the O sitting in AAA.
  6. That was also a different era. That's worth noting. But baring injury, there's no reason that he cannot maintain that velocity through his career. It will tick down slowly as he ages, but it's not like he'll be throwing low 90s come his 28th birthday either. And I think we all know that there's more to pitching than velo. Graterol will probably get a long look for one of the spots in the rotation next season, but I tend to agree with the other point, that putting him on the 40 and burning an option is poor management. We have people now that we need to look at now. Stewart is one of them. Now that said, I do think he's a good candidate for a 40 man add and September callup to the pen. I know there's some screwy rules with playoffs assuming we get there, but he could do something similar to what Jose Mijares did back in the early 2000s.
  7. I don't think that we are all that deep at C. We're fine this year at the ML level, and I'm comfortable with Garver/Astrudillo going forward. Rortvedt and Jeffers are still a ways out though and there's not much behind them, so Langeliers definitely interest me... plus Stephen King wrong a novel about him. Malone, Manoah, and Stott all interest me too. Based on Lugo's rankings, I don't think he goes in the 1st.
  8. oof… Stewart and Pineda... only good thing going for us is that Detroit is basically a good AAA team. Hope both of those guys start absorbing some of that magic.
  9. If Polanco keeps hitting the way he's hitting, it will be Polanco.
  10. well, if they go all in, I'd say 2 arms in the pen... perhaps a starter if Pineada doesn't turn it around or someone else gets hurt. Kimbrel headed here should make some sense (though I've been beating that drum for a while, and I'm hardly the only one). I don't think it would be a bad idea to surrender the 3rd round pick to make it happen... if he's signed after June it won't be until July that he's ready. That's a lot of potential games where he could be used. Hope they do more than a 1 year deal for him as well.
  11. I've got to think that he's gone once Sano returns. There really is no need to have him and Marwin on the roster.
  12. This whole series needs a link on the top bar of the site. This info is very useful and will continue to be useful long after this series ends.
  13. yeah, there's got to be somethign to those numbers. Lower GB rates, yet at the same time Lower HR rates... Might still be SSS, but I have to think someone figured something out... If not, I hate to say it, but those will come back to haunt us.
  14. Probably worth noting that both Perez and Odorizzi have absurdly low HR rates right now as well as fairly low GB percentages. Those two don't typically add up. Seems like both are getting hitters to swing under their stuff... wondering if the analytics guys have figured out a remedy to the upper cut swing.
  15. I'm not really sure a regular season series has much to do with breaking this curse personally. They managed to win them from time to time during the Gardy era, even some bad teams. It will be over when they take a playoff series from NY.
  16. Hope he keeps it up. That woudl be a huge boost. He certainly took it to the Astros the other day... and if he can do that to them... well he can do it to anyone. This might be the making of a career year or breakout for him. Hope it is.
  17. Yeah, scoring runs is fun... but games like this are intense... far more than a typical game.
  18. I think this is too early to discuss personally... but if he wants to be in that dicussion, the bat needs to heat up.
  19. I could be wrong, but I remember reading somewhere that those improvements actually started last year, and that you could see a nice trend on him last fall. I'm beginning to think he's turned a corner. If so, great find by our front office.
  20. I want to see Thrope, though I suspect it woudl be Stewart. I can see why though... We shoudl see Thorpe at some point this season.
  21. I love it... Now get one more and I'll be quite happy about this series.
  22. more tongue in cheek... I enjoy Mike's thread... read it religiously, and have similar views about national attention... only time I get annoyed is that the Twins are never on nationally... but then again, they've deserved that of late.
  23. I was thinking the same thing... bet they'd sell a lot more if those were the prices in general. Guess the question is how many more.
  24. nah, with the time stone, that fastball will be as fast as Thanos wants it... And he's a pretty big dude too... I've got to think he could hit one 700 feet if he tried.
