    I think another factor to consider is that the overall "quality" of most of so-called fringe players on the roster generally leaves a lot to be desired. I doubt that Rocco has a large say on the composition of the roster he has to work with from game to game and that means that the replacement for that situation is oftentimes less than optimal. I view it more as he's throwing things up against the wall, in the hopes that something will stick, because he doesn't have very good options available to him most of the time. To me, that's primarily a fault of the ownership and front office and not directly him. You can only play with what you have and Rocco oftentimes doesn't have much quality to play with. I think that has a lot to do with the continued Margot pinch hitting opportunities, among other things. While a valid concern, the lack of trust he appears to sometimes have with his younger players is a different story line to be debated separately.

    Maybe for most teams, but not for this one.

    Do you honestly think that the Pohlads even care? I don't. Such a scenario would probably mean they'd cut the payroll even more than they've already done, thus beginning the death spiral.

    Asking/begging for this team to score even one run might be more than they're capable of doing at this stage of the season. Rather pathetic IMO.

    I agree that the smaller payroll is far from the biggest or only problem here. However, a below average payroll, combined with an apparently clueless sense on how to run a MLB-caliber team effectively and efficiently, has seemingly led us to this point. I also can't shake the thought that this whole season was an exercise in maximizing ownership profit, over everything else.

    Snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. AGAIN! Mostly due to the generally inept bats.

    Plus: A major league caliber centerfielder for when Buxton is down for an extended period of time. Team speed, up and down the lineup. *AND* Better situational awareness and hitting, all the way around. Problem is, I'd be shocked if they even attempted to act on as many as half of these, let alone actually accomplishing something.

    Is what we're currently running out there game after game worthy of a playoff team?? IMO, no it isn't, by a very large margin.
