  1. Yes. Good defensive catchers are hard to find. Good defensive catchers with a few gold gloves, and MVP, and 3 batting titles are even rarer. Actually I think non existent?
  2. If they move it to Hong Kong they could have played it yesterday, or next week, or Friday? I get pretty lost if it's more complicated tan supper time!
  3. In some cases the phrase "great minds think alike" can be considered a compliment! In others...................
  4. Speaking of llamas, on the way to St. Cloud with two tenor olds for a kids tourney, my ten yr son looked at a llama pen and asked, "why do those sheep have such long necks"? I told him it was the only way they could see over that tall fence netting!
  5. One of his brothers was quoted years ago to the effect that Joe was intensely competitive, be it bowling or numbly peg. And good at all of them. He had to have been not only talented but uber competitive to excell at so many sports. He is sort of the Bud Grant of his era without the duck boat!
  6. Or, they could have fired the guy who lost 103? Pohlad may have saved Molitors job when Falvine came on board, but to me that has always left the impression that Molitor is the Twins manager because of his relationship with Pohlad.
  7. I like Kepler. I also think he is one of the core group of younger players who needs to play almost everyday. No platooning, no pinch hitters. The team will rise or fall with this group, there's no calvary coming to the rescue.
  8. "Any self-respecting sports fan should have a team that you hold the exact amount of unreasonable hate for another team as the amount of unreasonable love you have for your team. If you don’t… you are an unbalanced sports fan and you are the type of fan who can get pushed around by Ozzie Guillen types because both feet aren’t set. This balance is also necessary in regular life as well. I had to marry another woman that I hated as much as the wife I love." I always found Ozzie harmless, and extremely entertaining. And I always found two wives expensive and not entertaining. I ended up solving the problem by developing a love/hate relationship with one of them. Sort of a dual purpose wife, like one of those weed trimmers you can turn into an edger. At first I was concerned that picking which one to keep would be a problem, but they solved it for me. They drew straws and the one that pulled the short straw got me!
  9. For some reason I thought it was Liriano when I told this story a couple days age. Regardless, it was one of the great moments in baseball. I went to check on whether this is addressed in the unwritten rules of baseball, but I couldn't find it anywhere.
  10. I have never been convinced that Molitor and Falvine are actually on the same page. But that's from the outside reading between the lines. That said, no one really knows about Kinley, as there are limited games, the weather has been bleep, and Molitor won't use him unless we are down by 7. So the jury is still out on Kinley as a pitcher. Another poster mentioned getting Molitor on board with theses moves. But the bottom line is he would not have used Bard, and didn't appear to fond of Shaggy either. Veterans. It's how he rolls. I don't know whether the FO should adapt to that theory, or Molitor should adapt to his roster. But until they straighten it out, it's obvious you can't shove young players onto him, and locking yourself into non flexible roster spot was a mistake. That or extending Molitor was?
  11. I hope that someday in the future, more fans will appreciate what they had in Mauer. One of the best catchers to play the game, and most likely the best hitting catcher to play, period. And that is understating his overall offense ability. It's a shame he was concussed, and it's likely we will never have a handle on how damaging those concussions were. Mauer never was a power threat, regardless of the 29? he hit in the dome. He is a batsman, more in the Carew model than for example a Dozier. And given the choice, I imagine that with the winning run on base, almost to a man MLB pitchers would much rather face Dozier than Mauer. Lastly, while not mentioned here, many hold Mauers contract against him. But, given the chance for that kind of payday, I wonder how many of those same fans would turn it down?
  12. Buxton has hit some balls very well, with little luck. He will be fine. Rosario can be frustrating, but the talent is obvious. Ichiro had a couple balls fall also that he would have normally caught. Sano couldn't get the ball out of his glove. EE missed a GB. The Astro RF totally lucked out on the ball at the fence, eyes closed. Part of it is baseball, and a lot of it is playing baseball in winter. Ugh
  13. Lol, I should have mentioned that was "several" years ago. Quite a few several states!
  14. Applebee's? Godfathers? Pizza Hut? We had The Red Onion, and Ida's Cafe. And that was in the "big" town. The little town a couple miles away had two bars of course. Once I was 14 Pa let us take the car around the gravel roads to the small town. We had to promise to leave it parked in one spot once we got there.
  15. Marny was dressed like she was a contestant at the Iditarod.
  16. What makes this series a shame, is its two good baseball teams, one of who is really good, struggling to simply get through the evening. (Along with the fans). The game may appear normal, but I cannot believe anyone operates at a high efficiency in this weather. I wouldn't be surprised if this isn't being played at a 70% level....... The GT is as usual operating at 100%.
  17. If you take into account the exit velocity of Doziers blast, it was more like 1-2-3-4
  18. Just discussed Moose and Squirrel with someone today.... One of my altime favorites....
  19. I wasn't going to donate when he dropped in at my place, but the monkey was so darn cute with that little chute deployed......
  20. That's the most severe case of dyslexia I have ever encountered! .
  21. You do realize there is both a launch angle and exit velocity on a bunt don't you? . But would the launch angle be a negative number?
