  1. It may be just me, but it does not appear that this epic WC chase is inspiring ticket sales?
  2. Sticking to tonight's music theme, wIll the Twins leave next week "fully loaded for Cleveland"? Or will they fail as the Fitz did, in Michigan? "A good crew, it's been good to know yah" ?
  3. No squirrel in his right mind would bother chasing a rabbit, when instead he could stop and check out a nut on a park bench!
  4. Just to smooth the savage beast in you, I did play, I coached youth ball for years, managed adult men's teams, umpired, and served on local baseball associations. To further address your concerns, I do sit in the bleachers, I don't tend to jump up and down and clap just because the home team catches a ground ball cleanly, and I never ever sing! It's not fair to the people around me. To address someone else concern, I should have been more definitive! Mentoring is not crap, TH mentoring is. A mentor does not take a kid to the park, and complain when the kid gets to go down the slide and he can't because he's too old! A mentor takes a kid to the park, and relishes in the child's joy and learning experience. That is mentoring. I tend to believe Toriis mentoring is spelled "posturing"!
  5. I am not sure this is a great argument? Someone just might come back and mention Arcia, Buxton, and Shafer? I would never do that, but some other poster might! Mentoring is crap. If TH was interesting in mentoring, and advancing the careers of his younger OF compatriots, he would not have wanted to play RF instead of left, and he would not be arguing with Molly when he was being benched last week. He would be encouraging his youthful protégés to make the best of this playoff run and their ML opportunity! Not grumbling about his personal playing time. Mentoring is crap!
  6. Signing Hunter was a bad idea in the first weeks of the season, a good idea when he had a hot May, a bad idea until ten days ago, and a good idea in the last fortnight? But looking forward to next year, it's a bad idea for a lot of reasons. But the biggest one might be that he will not be happy being eventually moved to a bench role, and once the Twins sign him he is not going anywhere in 2016. This is not a Kubel, Bartlett thing. Personally I would prefer Sugar Shane, he gives you a glad to be here FOURTH outfielder, and he gives you the flexibility to move him once the roster requires it, plus he's really a little better player than most acknowledge. But that ain't gonna happen.
  7. I don't think it's in Hunter's DNA to sit happily on the bench as a fourth OF. There have been rumblings already about the pine time Molitor has given him. His ego is way too large for that. As for the Twins signing him as a fill in until Buxton and or Kepler get some time next spring in AAA, and then trading/releasing him? Please, that is not going to happen if TR is in charge. As a mentor? Let's see. He can take credit for Hicks and Rosario. But then he has to take credit for Vargas, Buxton, and Arcia also. Mentoring is B/S. The Twins are going to take a no brainer roster cleansing decision and screw it up. Torri is coming back, and one, if not two of Buxton, Kepler, or Arcia is not. It's the "Twins Way"
  8. No. Nada. Nien. Nyett! (While some of the spellings are not exact, I think my thoughts are)! That said, as sure as I need language classes, Hunter will be back. A combination of this spurt he has had, his ego, and TR's inability to resist players over 30 years old makes it a fait accompli!
  9. Surely, you can't be serious?
  10. The younger players seem to be carrying whatever hope the Twins have. And Hunter and Suzuki have had a little spurt. But most of the other veterans have not held up their end of the bargain. If nothing else, I hope this puts to bed the argument that player so and so can not be traded because his metrics say he is the ? best at his position. To me that's the biggest weakness about metrics, there's a huge difference when you pile up statistics. As for the pitching, likely more of the same. The two most reliable in the middle of the chase have been Gibson and Duffey. May has been fairly steady out of the pen. Most of the expensive vets, meh! Fortunately the Twins have pieces to put together a really good team for quite a few years to come, and to possibly stockpile a few replacement parts for the future. The decisions they make this winter, win or lose the WC chase, will be far more important than the next two weeks toward their future success.
  11. Does Pluto have Global Warming?
  12. I would trade Dozier and whatever for a catcher, if one can be found. I don't think Doziers second half is and aberration, I think it's reality. I would also do the same with Plouffe. Neither player has been in the forefront of the WC chase, and trading Plouffe clears a roster log jam slightly. I like Polanco, but I don't think his arm plays at SS.
  13. Great great flick!
  14. Totally agree. This teams success in the future will be predicated by its ability to get reps for the youth now. I am of two minds on this year. The WC would be fun, but would inevetibally cause complacency at One Twins Way. Maybe it's an over anaylisis to be concerned about that, but the history is there for the looking. All you have to do is look to last year. Anything close to .500 last year and Gardy Is back. It took 4 years of sub standard baseball to cause a change. This run is unexpected, and enjoyable. But I fear it's going to come back to haunt is in a developmental manner next year.
  15. My thought when he went to the ASG to compete in the HR contest. To me that was a sign that he over appreciated his own power. He's overall a good ball player, but watching him hit reminds me of my softball days. Mediocre hitters trying to pull everything over the fence, and hitting a lot of fly balls short of the fence.
  16. This has been a complaint of mine for years with the Twins. It's what I sarcastically refer to as the "Twins Way". There is no consistency how players are handled. Some are allowed to "pull" at historic rates, under the Mendoza line, and some are sent to exile in Rochester. Doziers real problem is not exhaustion. It's the simple fact that he can only hit successfully in a very small segment of the strike zone. Pitchers have about 75% of the zone to work with, and they refuse to throw him anything up and in. Don't watch the pitch. Watch the catcher setup. A rare one will be down and in, none will be up. Granted, everyone hits mistakes, it's just that his sweet spot is not only small, it's up and in, where a lot of pitchers don't go anyway.
  17. It seems to me that BB brief history is that he starts slow with the stick at every level and then adjusts. I imagine that is exactly what's happening here, possibly exacerbated by the pressure of a playoff push!
  18. Yes it does. Soft throwing non strike out pitchers. Semi athletic middle infielders. Playing Nishi and Shafer while we watch Hardy and Gomez on Sports Center? Signing an ancient OF in a rebuilding year, just to sell tickets? Not having a Catcher who can out perform Suzuki in the entire system? The talent is getting better, it has to when you draft that high for 4 years in a row. But the puzzling roster decisions remain. I hope Arcia is not added to that list.
  19. Totally agree. Another point, and one hard to quantify is Arcia is one of those players that does not fit into the "Twins Way". The Twins do not excell in dealing with "personalities". The Twins are going to need someone to protect Sano, and they really don't have anyone currently. One of the things that Sanos emergence has shown is the mostly undiscussed lack of a 4 hitter. The 3 hole discussion has been beat to death, but lost in that is that the Twins have not had a 4 hitter in a long time. Sano is that, but as he gets a reputation, he is going to see less and less good pitches with someone like Plouffe behind him. And that's where Oswaldo should be, if nothing else as a DH. His is young, and did not suddenly forget how to hit! Sadly I concur with you, Ryan will ship him, and we will watch highlights on Baseball Tonight for years!
  20. And now they don't tag on a deep fly ball?
  21. MLB should not require teams to fly all the way to Chicago. There is no need to be there, since they beat themselves without any help whatsoever?
  22. Totally agree. While it's great to see the Twins win last night, and his contribution to that win, it's cringe worthy, from the standpoint that a few more games like that, will have TR reaching for his checkbook! On a side note, Hunters comment that "it's been awhile since someone tested my arm" made me giggle! The guy at second had no business trying to stretch that, and the guy at the plate stumbled around third. I still put the odds at 80/20 TR cannot resist his veteran urge yet again!
  23. I know for a fact they are better outside. I had one in the living room, they are hard to catch! But tasty!
  24. buck needs rest he has played all those games in a row and he's pushing 23 pretty soon!
  25. Don't forget all the people that nice Nigerian prince has helped!
