  1. Always the contrarian: Next will be an article listing all the games we should not have won, but did. . But yes, the ones, especially the close ones, that got away hurt the most, and are the most likely to cause acid reflux! I think it was the A-Rod game! Because it was A-Rod, Nd because it was the Yankees. On top of that, we had started to get a little feeling that we could maybe, actually, possibly, eventually, or sooner or later beat them. Now most thoughts on winning the coveted the WC are tempered by the knowledge that we would have to go to NY, to a fate unknown, but widely expected. When the pitching rosters of other teams shrink for the playoffs, they improve as a unit. When ours does, it at best stays static, and likely this year due to you know who, declines.
  2. If I wanted to listen to someone p*^s and moan over every call, I would listen to the Hawk. Dicks whining is getting a little old.
  3. Several years ago while driving through Cleveland from east to west, I decided to stay on I90 all the way through town to see what the central part of Cleveland looked like. Hmm Berlin circa 1945 comes to mind. To top it off, some jokester at the highway dept decided an interstate all the way through town was a waste of government resources, and the last part is a 4 and 6 lane divided city street. The good part, is that it made driving through Chicago on the way back far more enjoyable!
  4. I assume you are referring to Buxton? I agree with your observation, this has happened numerous times, and not to just a sub like Buxton or Nunez.
  5. I wish the other teams would try it against us. I want to see Suzuki credited with a caught stealing before the year is over! . (Yes I know he got a cheapy on a terrible throw the other day)
  6. I wish they had not instituted that rule! I would have enjoyed Dick/Bert explaining the circumstances and scoring the play!
  7. Nor is it practical!
  8. I just got done sending a "rant" about this to a different blogger. You cannot keep hoping to score runs on walks, misplayed dribblers in the infield, and sac flys to the second baseman. It's been a season long problem that is catching up to them. No power from any corner position, and what seems to be an enormous amount of strike outs in high leverage situations. While Sano has tapered off, he has shown what a serious threat in the middle of the order can do for an offense. Since it's been so long since we had one, I think we have forgotten what it's like, and fallen into the complacency of believing that the middle of the order hitters we are trotting out there are offensive threats.
  9. Also, we are paying dealing for the FO aversion to velocity. I know they talk about finally "catching up with the Jones" as far as velocity goes. And they have drafted, and touted higher velocity pitchers. But they still keep sending the low 90's guys out there every day. High velocity pitchers strike out more people, and walk more people. It's the way it is. If you are going to wait for a guy who throws in triple digits, and paints the outside corner before you bring him up, then you are destined to watch Fien and Duensing for a long time.
  10. Agreed. He had more than one outing in the first half, where absolute rockets were right at someone. So this could be his BABIP is evening out. It had to be very low in the first half. Two other points. Perk can generally throw strikes like falling off a log, but hitting corners is not his forte. And, he has normally excelled in one situation. Ahead in the game by 3 or less (save) and starting the ninth inning. My memory tells me he has often struggled in other scenarios and low leverage situations.
  11. Line drive off Gibsons foot, then he threw Santana out at first.
  12. I was thinking of Pinto, and how after the second time he got hit, Jones would not have had a third pitch to swing at!
  13. One of the posters mention Plouffe and Dozier also. And I might include Mauer, from earlier in the year. I dont know if it's just me, but it seems the Twins have complained more this year about balls and strikes than I can ever remember. I don't know if that comes from the change in managers or not. I know Gardy got ejected more, but I've umped long enough to know that some guys don't get ejected, they just whine through the whole game instead. Plouffe has gotten to the point where there are only two kinds of pitches, the ones he hits, or ones called balls. No pitch he takes can ever be considered a strike. As for calls, in about the last two weeks, I think Sano homered after a missed third strike (one was a complete gut shot down the middle on 2-2) and EE walked on a 3-2 to start the 3 run inning that won the Tues game. Perk should be happy it didn't cost him the game. Speaking of Perk, he has almost never pitched well in low leverage situations. If they would bring him in to get an inning in a non save game, he generally seemed to struggle. Last night was really nothing new.
  14. The same odds as Plouffie getting a leg double?
  15. The only luck I ever have with Chines numbers is when I order the #47 at Fung Yu Wangs House of Foo Yang! It's a combination Moo Goo Gai Pan, and Fettuchini Alfredo dish!
  16. Not at all, the goat is a huge baseball fan, and is all in!
  17. I intend to sacrifice a goat to the baseball gods!
  18. When I watch Molitor, I always wonder if he is enjoying himself. There were reports he wasn't sure if managing was for him, and I've wondered if he has resolved those qualms?
  19. So I you mean there's a chance?
  20. Allowed, but highly frowned upon!
  21. Nice article. Talent helps, but remember some managers cannot manage talent. They won't let the talent excel at their strengths, and try and make it fit the managers vision/agenda. The single biggest thing a manager can do to ensure success is put his players in positions they can succeed in. I have nothing against Molitor, I just had hoped Dougie would have came in and injected some energy and excitement into a staid and stale baseball operation. It will be a window into Molitors self confidence if he allows his heir apparent to sit next to him in the dugout. Gardy certainly didn't want that.
  22. I think we need more polls like this! There are several possible categories. To wit: 1. Best jokes. 2. Musical knowledge. 3. Geographic expertise. 4. Sophomoric humor. 5. Most likely to determine all is lost after a loss. 6. Quickest to purchase playoff tickets after a win. 7. Worst jokes. 8. Fastest GIF. 9. Oddest pet stories. 10. And since this is after all TDGT, the least important category of all! Overall baseball acumen!
  23. There are many excellent answers to that query, unfortunately any one of them will result in the loss of my highly valued TD membership! (And the secret decoder ring)
