  1. Was just going to suggest Jeffers for Julien.....
  2. So much for Wheeler going 80 - 85 pitches tonight... 107 and 7 shut out innings.
  3. I was prepared for Lee to be sent back to AAA with Miranda and Lewis starting rehab assignments given his recent struggles, but Julien continuing to not swing and get called out on strike 3 is my bet to go back to AAA. What a waste of talent.
  4. Castro at 3B and Lee at SS is better defense, Lee is learning 3B at the MLB level and Castro is more suited for 3B, but it's Rocco's team...
  5. Not all of the plaques exactly capture the player...
  6. Suppose they could piggy-back the two of them, 3 or 4 innings each. Now, who to DFA.....
  7. The team had 9 hits on Sunday, that's hardly struggling. And it was hardly small ball as they had Buxton's 2 HR and 2 2B. BUT the small-ball playing Brewers crushed 4 HR and 2 2B for the win...
  8. Not really an innings eater, 89.1 IP over 18 starts is less than 5 IP per start.
  9. The misplay on the bunt Saturday night is 100% because Lee is playing out of position and learning as he goes. Castro has more 3B experience and, I would like to think, would have called Okert off the play. While not ideal, Julien at 2B, Lee at SS and Castro at 3B is a better defensive line-up until Correa and Miranda are back, hopefully followed by Lewis shortly thereafter. That is where those players have the most reps and are most comfortable.
  10. According to Baseball Savant, Martin's throws average out to 85.3 MPH, but that is based on OF throws. However, that number is higher than Kirilloff, Larnach and Margot in the OF, so he may become a serviceable LF or 4th OF. The average MLB 2B throws 79.1 MPH, so Julien's 80.2 MPH is slightly above average and higher than former SS Semien, IK-F, Torres and Bogaerts as well as Altuve and Albies. Other than arm strength (MPH), I am not a big believer in advanced metrics for fielding because there are too many variables to take in (positioning, jump, exit velocity, field condition, game conditions, pitcher and batter handedness, pitch velocity, pitcher's control that day (striking out or walking a lot of batters), game score, runners on base, etc...). I tend to believe what my eye sees (which, thanks to MLB and RSNs is getting harder to do) concerning glovework, footwork, positioning, quick (or not) hands and situational awareness etc...
  11. Game time is 6:40, I'm sure we won't hear anything until 3:00 or 4:00...
  12. Julien is a better defensive player than he was when he was first called up, but he is still not a good defensive player. He doesn't have "soft" hands in that he stabs at a lot of ground balls, he "pats" (double-clutches) his glove on nearly every throw and if he has to hurry a throw, it generally short hops the defender or winds up off-target. Having said that, the guy standing to his right (Correa, though he is on the IL I'm sure he's with the team every day) should be his biggest source of defensive information/help, as well as early/extra fielding before games and on off-days. The more concerning point to me is his hitting. He still watches too many close pitches that are called strikes, even the JH kids I used to coach learned to foul those off if the umpire was calling them strikes.
  13. Twins bunt defense is horrible...
  14. I would add earning the split with Milwaukee as being critical, more so since the team is short-handed due to injuries.
  15. Forgot Castillo had been called up. That would be a better scenario, but I think Correa may be headed to the IL. Though he hasn't played since last Friday, essentially a 10 day IL stint. The team needs him healthy if they are going to make a run at Cleveland in the second half.
  16. No Martin or Julien in last nights line-up, maybe a couple of moves coming? Correa to IL and Camargo returning to AAA?
  17. Twins relief pitchers have been horrible at not allowing inherited runners to score - an MLB worst 45% (49/109 inherited runners) have scored. But the 3 lefties are the worst offenders; Thielbar 57% (8/14), Okert 54% (7/13) and Funderburk 47% (9/19) have combined to allow 24 of 46 inherited runners, 52%, to score. I don't know if this is because they are brought into face a LHB with runners on and don't get him out and then have to face a bunch of RHB or what, but this needs to be corrected or it will cost the team in close games and possibly the play-offs. My personal opinion is that all 3 nibble at the edges too much and get beat when they have to throw it in the zone. Challenge the batters early and make them chase a pitchers pitch with two strikes instead of the other way around.
  18. Late to the party and haven't really read previous responses but it looked to me like most of the runs this weekend would have been prevented by a MLB centerfielder. Margot needs to go and Kiersey needs to be brought up, might have saved 2 games this weekend.
  19. Leave it to the Twins to make Snell look like a CyvYoung winner again 😂
  20. Would rather have Lee at SS and Castro at 2B, but its Rocco's call not mine...
