  1. I think Morneau was probably pretty close to right on what was happening. I'm sure Donaldson used some swear words as well. Watching Cruz's reaction, he doesn't seem overly concerned. Mostly a nothing burger.
  2. There are a few picks I liked - MacLeod will make the majors, I like that the Twins took Petty. Young power arm that could start if it goes well works for me. I wonder how much the Twins saved, if they can convince one of the handful of power HS arms to sign rather than go to college, I'd be really impressed.
  3. I haven't followed the minors and the draft this year like I have in the past but generally, the more picks in the top 100, the better the draft. I don't love the Twins college bat approach this low but another Larnich wouldn't bug me. I don't think we'll pick pitching with either of these two picks so I hope we get some massive power. The biggest problem (to me) in drafting college players is how old they are when they debut. Lanrich is 24. Rooker is 26 in AAA. Wallner is 23 in A+. Sabato is 22 and struggling in A ball.
  4. I think our best drafts, 2012, 2016, were because we focused on young talent that we could develop. Buxton, berrios, kiriloff, baddoo, mianda, rortvedt, balazovic, etc. Rooker is 26 in AAA? Larnich looks good but is already 24. Sabato (sp) is in the low minors, I think. I dunno. Elite college bats are great (Kris Bryant) but I'm not sure, usually those guys sign out of high school for a reason.
  5. I'd like to see Cruz in Toronto. No idea what we'd get from them but I really like Vlad jr so it's an easy team to root for.
  6. I agree with the original post. Levine hasn't made good trades and doesn't seem to have a good read on the talent. I'm still upset about the 2017. First, we're trading away guys like Ynoa (who did indeed have strong supporters, including Ben, who loved the deal for Atlanta) to get Garcia, only to turn around a week later and trade away Garcia and Kinzter for nothing. It was like the FO had no idea if we were buyers or sellers. That's a pretty big problem. I have no expectation that we will make a good trade this year but we should be selling off everything.
  7. It's time to trade him for whatever they can get. The main problem is I don't trust Levine to make a good trade.
  8. I've only disliked a handful of players - Herr, Slowey, Kepler, Young come to mind. Donaldson doesn't bug me. He seems to play hard and he's good.
  9. https://www.marketwatch.com/story/buy-these-stocks-as-s-p-500-heads-for-11-correction-and-bitcoin-risks-fall-to-12-000-say-strategists-11624879133?siteid=yhoof2
  10. Anyone want to mention an unsexy-stock they are happy to own? Just throwing this out there but we bought John Deere in August 2015. In that time, it's grown 333%. Facebook grew 283% in the same period, Netflix was 349%. Deere has a pretty impressive moat and a solid dividend as well. It's not sexy at all but, man, it's been a nice stock for us.
  11. Eh, Duran is a solid prospect but he's not a Berrios level prospect, let alone a top of the rotation type. (Although, as you say, baseball may be moving away from that). If you don't think a nucleus of Buxton, Sano, Berrios, Kepler, Rosario, Garver, Polanco etc was a nice situation to build around, I don't know what to tell you. It seemed like a pretty good place to be. Certainly a lot better than our current situation. That nucleus was going to be pretty good, no matter who was running things, and they were. But I think a better FO might have been able to help the players more (although the Cruz signing was good). I also don't think this is there only one bad offseason. They've had several bad offseasons where they haven't significantly improved the team. There are good things that Levine has done - I liked the Donaldson signing, a lot, even though it hasn't been as good as we all hoped. The 2018 draft looks solid. But he seems to have misjudged the talent in the system several times. He was not able to keep the window of opportunity for the above named nucleus open.
  12. They inherited a team that was a season away from nearly making the playoffs. They had a nucleus of top 100 prospects to build around. They had the first pick in the draft and some supplemental picks. They had an owner who said he'd actually spend money. It's hard to find a better situation for a new FO to walk into. Not sure I'd be as optimistic about this pitching pipeline. The best prospect in the system was drafted by the previous FO. The current FO hasn't shown much ability to find top of the rotation starters. More worrisome, they might not think they have to b/c they might just think baseball will evolve into 4-5 pitchers per game snoozefests. Outside of Berrios, I'm not there is another pitcher in our entire system that will crack 150 innings this year.
  13. They were given a great situation and didn't really capitalize on it. Now they need the pipeline they built to keep the window of opportunity open and it doesn't look like that will work out. I'm ready to move on from Levine for sure. Not as sure about Falvey.
  14. I loved the 2016 draft at the time and now it's looking even better. Kiriloff, Rortvedt, Baddoo, Wells, Jax have already made the majors with Miranda and Balazovic still at AA. I don't know if any of them will have the upside of the top of the 2012 draft (Buxton, Berrios, Rogers) but they should provide some above average MLB players.
  15. Coming into this season, the Twins best hitting prospect (Kiriloff) and best pitching prospect (Balazovic) were guys picked by the prior regime. This FO has made a bunch of bad trades, failed to recognize the talent in the system, failed to build a pitching staff. They were given one of the best situations any new FO could hope to get and really didn't do anything to help. I'm really surprised how much rope some are willing to give Levine. And I'm really worried that Falvey is behind the five inning pitcher philosophy.
  16. I'm kind of done with this Twins team. I remember after the T-Wolves traded KG, I stopped following them and just rooted for KG, even in Boston. Feel the same way about Buxton. Hope he wins an MVP, ideally for us, but I'll root for him anywhere. This FO is a disaster.
  17. Mike's list is a good one. We have friends over at least once a month to have big board game days (with food and booze) so I'd just add a few more - Catan, Galaxy Trucker, Castles of Burgundy.
  18. I'm glad you got your gains. I've been avoiding the AMC/gamestop stuff but maybe I should have thrown a few dollars at it. I have a friend who is only buying AMC GME and cannabis stocks. I probably wouldn't have done that but he's ok with it. We actually bought a couple hundred shares of Apple stock yesterday.
  19. If you are going to discount the best five games, you have to discount the worst five games. But my point was that I think the offense is going to be fine. Sano is better than this and will flip a switch and start hitting. Kiriloff is a legit middle of the order bat. We have enough weapons and depth to be a pretty potent unit. Pitching, bullpen in particular, is going to drag the team down all year.
  20. The FO should shoulder most of this blame. The bullpen is crap and they seem to be big believers in limiting starting pitching innings. Seems like if you're aiming to build a team where the starters max out around 170 innings on the season, you have to have a huge and productive bullpen. We don't. I don't understand how the team was made. Offensively, I think it's ok. I'm ready to move on from Polanco and Kepler but we have some depth behind them that could work. And I'll give the FO credit for trying to build around the offense by bringing in Donaldson and Cruz. But the team has a few too many bench players in starting spots right now. Hopefully, a little health fixes that.
  21. Sano is the firstbaseman, Kiriloff should be a corner OFer. I think Kepler and Polanco are bigger concerns than Sano.
  22. On the positive, Kiriloff is finally getting results.
  23. I think eventually he will. I'm not sure it'll be this year though.
  24. This is basically right. I think the Sox are the favorites now but we're probably still the second best team. That said, at the end of the year, I wouldn't be surprised if we won 94 and took first or if we somehow managed a 79 win season and came in third. The bullpen terrifies me. The lineup will be good. If we win 94, Buxton wins MVP.
  25. I am down on this team but there certainly are scenarios where this is still a playoff team. I trust the offense a lot more than I trust the bullpen and even the rotation. Kiriloff has had some at-bats where I think, "he's gonna be good" even though he lines out. And I'm still a big believer in Sano. But the pitching staff really worries me. I will add that I am actually thrilled to be watching baseball again after the insanely strange 2020 season and Buxton is absolutely amazing to watch.
