  1. Wright or McKay. Whichever will sign for less.
  2. I'm glad for him.
  3. I think part of the problem is you're using batting average to suggest our young hitters aren't doing well at the plate.
  4. My man crush on Buxton can easily accommodate Mr. Adell. Seriously, if we took him underslot at 1/1, I'd be the biggest cheerleader here.
  5. I just saw that. Unreal. (And declassifying might be different than revealing to foreign governments. I'm pretty sure a bunch of lawyers are looking into that.) I don't know how anyone can say he's a good president or support him. The Post fix article says his approval is at 36%. If it stays there, I think the GOP abandons him completely (unless Russia has dirt on Ryan et al when they hacked the RNC emails).
  6. Regardless, whoever we draft is going to sign for less than slot so we'll get some savings anyway, If the Twins took Smith or Jordon Adell (I really like him) I would expect that they already spoke with a few advisors to make sure someone(s) in the 10-20 range fell to 35/37.
  7. There is no way he's not a Yankee. Absolutely no way. They have the biggest market, the biggest budget, he's dreamed of being a Yankee his whole life and his LH swing will destroy that park. The Yankees will give him a 10 year deal worth 400m or more. And they'll also sign Machado to piss everyone off.
  8. Well, it's not just coaching. A guy with command/control problems might not be able to fix it even with the best coaches in the world.
  9. I'm not sure how else you can modify the rule though that doesn't include umpire discretion. It seems to me that it's either a bright line - you didn't always touch the bag - or some consideration can come into it. At the end of the day, it's probably not a huge deal. As I said, players have already adapted to the rule and Happ, a rookie, will clearly learn.
  10. Sure, but can't it be fixed? The Happ slide was a pretty safe slide. And several of the legal slides weren't particularly safe. Can't we give the umps a bit of authority on slides? I'm not sure how that makes it not worth doing.
  11. Thanks for posting. It does seem like Rowson, our new hitting coach, might be better for him than Bruno was.
  12. I wonder why/who the 4 man rotation logic is. Gardy had done that a few times in the past seasons and some seasons he didn't. Seemed like it was more a manager decision than a FO one. Is this something that Pickler is instructing Molitor on? Is this something Molitor feels more comfortable with because he has vets?
  13. Yep, that's true. I do think Burdi and a few other minor league arms can be a big help for us this season though. The rotation? Well, if Berrios is a real, then we have three ML quality arms with him and Santana and Santiago. Not sure if Hughes, Mejia, Gibson, etc can hold down the back end although I have more faith in Mejia than the other two, for some reason.
  14. Well, one of the things that bugs me is people complaining about the state of the farm system (the title of this thread) and then saying the Twins have been bad for five or six years and ignoring how those two facts don't line up.
  15. While Sano and Santana are the two best players, I'm not sure we have 'bad' players right now. The rotation has question marks, for sure, but Kepler, Polanco, Rosario, Mauer are solid and might be better than solid. I think that's key. Look at the 2002 Twins, they had a few guys who were clearly stars but they also had a bunch of players who weren't bad.
  16. Maybe, maybe not. But at a certain point, you also have to have a ML team. No fanbase should have to go through what the Astros fans did. As bad as last years Twins were, the Astros had three teams in a row that were worse. They got 0 ratings and fan attendance went to the bottom of the league. Even with one of the more exciting young teams, the fans haven't fully come back (and no, they aren't an exciting young team because they lost 108+ games all those years). Moving Hammer for a AAAA type wasn't a great move and complaining about it several years later gets rather annoying. The Twins traded away almost all vets. Unlike other teams, they really only had three strong trade chips - Perkins (pre-injury), Span and Dozier. I think Santana is now in that class. They decided to keep Perkins on a team friendly deal, the Span trade didn't work, they shopped Dozier but didn't find a deal and they could still move him and/or Santana.
  17. Hey, would you believe our president is dumb enough to make decisions on fake news? You are? Shocking. http://www.politico.com/story/2017/05/15/donald-trump-fake-news-238379 Apparently, Katie Walsh was smeared by a rival in the White House by fake news put into the Presidents daily binder. The President looked into it and, while everyone says he didn't believe it, Walsh left the White House - she was part of former RNC chairman Pribus's staff.
  18. If that's what you think, fine. I think you're wrong. That's fine too. But if you think moving Suzuki or Hammer for AAAA filer, which is what you'd got, when Hammer and Suzuki weren't blocking anyone, you should certainly be pushing for the Twins to move Castro to free up Garver, Santiago to free up Mejia and Dozier to bring up Gordon or Vielma. It's not like Castro's overly good and Santiago is all luck at this point, anyway. Dozier is one of only three legitimate trade chips we've had so moving him should be a priority during the season.
  19. Actually, this is a pretty good complaint about how all the Marvel Studio movies are made. They are safe, fun and true popcorn movies. I read a pretty good article - maybe on cracked of all places - that explained how much better the DC movies were at pushing the envelope and just had better directors that brought you into the action. (But the movies themselves were still worse). Anyhow, I liked the first one better than this but I thought the sequel was pretty good. I very much enjoyed their use of Mr. Blue Sky but I agree that they were forcing the music on you and it was a bit annoying - especially with "come a little bit closer". Still, my kids want to go see it again, which is probably why Marvel Studios is making all the money.
  20. And an article on it ---> http://www.twincities.com/2017/05/14/get-a-grip-twins-pitchers-say-of-online-accusations-about-jose-berrios-and-his-cap/?utm_campaign=Echobox&utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Twitter#link_time=1494790721 "Two scouts in attendance for Berrios’ career-long 7 2/3-inning start on Saturday said they noticed nothing unusual about the way Berrios rubbed up a new baseball or behaved between pitches. Nor did the Indians ask plate umpire C.B. Bucknor to search the talented 22-year-old right-hander. Countless modern-day pitchers regularly find ways to improve their grip, which hitters actually appreciate because it keeps them from having to dodge wayward offerings. “No one blows the whistle because they know everybody’s doing something,” one major-league scout said."
  21. There's nebulous value in keeping the players as well. And you should still be beating the drum for Dozier, Castro, Santana etc to be moved today.
  22. Well, the point is if you're really concerned about player safety, the slide past the base issue isn't a fix. There are plenty of examples where guys slid into the base that were much more "dangerous" than the Happ slide. So, we can go the Japanese route and have runners avoid the base if we were really into player safety (of course, we're not, we're into image like the NFL and concussions). Or we could have umpires make calls based on what was actually happening. I (correctly) figured the slide rule wouldn't be a big issue after players got used to it since keeping one hand on the base isn't that hard and players have clearly adjusted while still trying to take out the pivot. But if you get a call like that in the playoffs, the internet will go nuts.
  23. Cliff Lee used to do that, drove me nuts. I remember thinking of Lee while watching Berrios so, maybe? Who knows? Doctoring the baseballs is probably a lot more common than fans think - we saw the Cards pitcher load up a ball so much it stuck to the catchers chest pad and no one blinked. It happens. Some snarky former pitcher actually wrote a pretty good article about all the doctoring they do in the bullpen.
