  1. Didn't we? Am I mistaking my trades but didn't we turn him into Nunez and eventually Mejia?
  2. They need help. Washington is running away with the NL East and the wild cards are probably coming from the west and/or central. They'd probably like to get Ervin Santana from us but that's a whole different trade. Harvey is still probably their best realistic bet right now.
  3. Settle down there, kiddo. There are a few options with Stewart. Let him learn at the AA level despite his struggles, send him to a lower level which he has previously mastered or cut him. The last option isn't happening, nor should it. Of the two others, I'd prefer to let him stay at the level that is challenging him so long as it's not an injury/mechanical issue. The Twins don't have an option of building a time machine and redoing the draft.
  4. Over the last two years, Gibson has a 75 ERA+ in 173ip. Harvey has a 83 ERA+ in 127ip. Both have been worth roughly 0 WAR. Gibson is cheaper and has one more year of control. Neither is really young anymore. One is 28, the other 29. Obviously, Harvey was by far the better pitcher once upon a time but he hasn't been the last few years. Their strike out rates the last two years are pretty close too - 6.8 v. 6.2. I'd certainly trade Gibson for Harvey but I sure wouldn't kick in 6 years of Mejia for 1.5 seasons of Harvey.
  5. Sure, but Josh Beckett was arguably the biggest ass on the planet when he went #2 overall. The only way attitude hurts is if it makes the player not listen to coaching or creates a bad work ethic. If those two issues are ok - and every article I've read about Greene suggest this wouldn't be a problem - you ignore attitude concerns. Compare Greene with Seth Romero, arguably the second best lefty in the college group. Romero's make-up issues - rumors of drug use, bad conditioning and not listening to coaches - might very well drop him out of the first round. Those are problems. If Greene or McKay or Wright don't check those boxes, you don't worry.
  6. I guess it's time for another update but it's not as nice. Over his last 19 games Blankenhorn is hitting .182/.313/.242, although he does have 7 walks (nearly 9% walk rate!) against 18 strike outs. That's something of an improvement. Some of this might be bad luck - he has a .245 babip nad his 22% krate isn't that scary. But he's young and struggling right now. It happens.
  7. I'm leaning against Greene and for the college arms - McKay or Wright - but his attitude has nothing to do with it. I'm sure Greene and Buxton and Mauer and any other player good enough to go 1/1 or thereabouts out of high school has a HUGE ego. Some hide it, others don't. But what I've read of Greene's work ethic (and Jordon Adell's as well) is really exciting. I think, barring injury, he'll be a very good player. But I'd go a bit safer with the college arm and take some upside HS arms later.
  8. Wow, very impressive. I'd like to see him get to AAA (or the majors) this season. His ability to take a walk is something we like.
  9. I agree with the change of scenery but he had the same surgery that Hughes did and his numbers haven't looked good so far. He only has one season left on his contract. He's famous but, really, he sorta sucks right now. I don't think the Mets want to give him away but I don't think teams want to pay high prices for him right now.
  10. Yeah, that ticked me off too, especially since some of the teams are limited (or so I thought) this year. How can the Yankees sign #4, 11 and 16?
  11. Maybe but it's not really relevant. Stewart is not Urias. But he's not Appel, Bickford, Ball, Kolek etc either. There were seven HS arms taken in the first round of 2013. Only Stewart, Kaminsky and Ball have managed to make it to AA yet and Stewart is the youngest. He could still be dominating in A+. I don't know what's wrong with him. Klaw liked him enough to include him in his top 100 and there are probably a few people in our organization who think he's capable of being a good pitcher. They have to figure out what's wrong. If his stuff just isn't good, he's done. If it's something else, hopefully they can identify it and fix it.
  12. Well, an injury might explain some of his struggles. One poster on here has argued that Stewart has bad mechanics which limits the effectiveness of his stuff and could cause an injury. -shrug- Who knows. Right now he just has to pitch better.
  13. McKay seems the most logical choice - top talent, college, safe, pitcher, fits a need, left-handed, quick to majors and might be a touch cheaper than Greene. And with all the HS arms in this draft, the Twins might pick up a high upside HS arm at 35/37.
  14. Barring an injury or mechanical thing, just let him continue. He's young and he's already dominated the low minors. Even if he has to repeat AA next year, he'd be young for the level.
  15. https://www.fanragsports.com/news/heyman-harvey-file-grievance-mets-suspension/ Mets suspended their star for 3 games. He claimed a migraine and didn't come to the park when he wasn't scheduled to pitch but showed up for his start the next day and was notified he was suspended. Harvey is filing an grievance against the Mets. Harvey is a free agent after next season and was a pretty great pitcher for a few years but hasn't pitched all that well last season or this season. Seems like bridges are being burned.
  16. Canning is looking pretty nice but another who is unlikely to fall to 35.
  17. Is there a way to insert eye roll gifs?
  18. Write up on Brent Rooker. http://www.minorleagueball.com/2017/5/5/15535616/2017-mlb-draft-brent-rooker-1b-mississippi-state-university
  19. Personal attacks aside, I've actually posted links from Turbow about how Latin players are changing the unwritten rules. It's quite fascinating. As to the personal attacks, it's probably time to move on and grow up. I suspect this back and forth sniping isn't normally permitted in your office, either. I'm sure as the season continues, there will be more fun/awful events that Turbow will cover and I will post about. Feel free to ignore those threads.
  20. Probably not a slow day at all, this stuff happens in every sport, every day. And, considering your viewpoint that ball players encourage fans to spew racist garbage, I'm not sure you're best suited for suggesting racism.
  21. I know high school stats mean next to nothing but a 1.400+ slg percentage? Holy cow. And the other article, about his conditioning and his older sister being a better athlete? Bloodlines!
  22. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/228044602/revealing-top-30-international-prospects-list/?topicid=151437456 and http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2017?list=int Figured this would be a good place for a new thread on the top international players. Twins have the largest pool, I believe. Twins are linked to #3, Jeffrey Marte, a short stop.
  23. He doesn't seem to be on the Twins radar for #1, and probably for good reason, but Jordon Adell is having a hell of a season. He's ranked #22 on mlbpipeline but I believe he was higher on their initial list but failed to show a lot of power early on. BA has him #14. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/jordon-adell-smashes-three-home-runs/#hwlQwcWZffdPHlkw.97 He's hitting .538/.640/1.436! with 21 home runs and only 7 strike outs against 25 walks. A lot of the summer showcase articles about Greene also mentioned Adell. BA had a nice article on him as well. He's a really great athlete. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/jo-adell-works-turn-dreams-reality-mlb-draft/#JHlrrL2RqeXhsbJV.97 I guess I don't want him at 1/1 but there's no way he'll fall to 35 either. Seems like a fun draft prospect to watch.
