  1. It was fine.
  2. IIRC, the questions about Pedroia were somewhat similar to those of Benentendi (sp) - smallish player, weak arm etc. I have no idea if this is true but is there something about playing at Fenway that may diminish some of the concerns teams might have about small/weak players? The Sox have certainly had a lot of small weak armed players over the years that hit pretty well. Pedroia slgs .472 at Fenway and just .412 on the road for his career. In any event, I'm not sure pointing out that one player in a draft did better than players taken ahead of him is overly useful. If the 04 draft was done over, Pedroia probably goes #2 overall. BA gave the Twins a straight A for that draft and complimented them on loading up on pitching from both the college and HS ranks. Were the Twins bad because all of those pitchers injured their arms and needed surgery? Did the Twins push the pitchers too much and cause injuries? Was it just bad luck? Or were the Twins good in that they got a solid ML in Plouffe and an all-star in Perkins? Were the Red Sox smart because they drafted Pedroia or were they dumb for drafting Doobies instead of Zorbrist in the third round?
  3. I'd wait before freaking out. A+ to AA is supposed to be the most difficult jump and he did miss a lot of time before coming back last year. Let's see what his stuff looks like in August.
  4. Twins Jailyn Davis gets the helium watch! "Davis was a candidate to go in the top five rounds in the 2015 draft out of Appalachian State, but a season-ending shoulder injury ended those hopes and dropped him to the 24th round. The Twins picked him knowing he wouldn’t play in 2015, content to wait it out and let him heal. Davis showed the skills last week that once made him a top draft candidate. He led all minor leaguers with 29 total bases. He went 11-for-24 with three doubles, five homers and 10 RBIs while also stealing two bases in as many tries. Davis has long projected to have above-average power, solid center-field defense and an average arm and speed. The only question was his hitting ability, and he showed he can tap into it with his big week." 5. Hiura might be a nice grab at 37. Sounds a bit like the Dodgers Willie Calhoun and a nice RH bat in left field fairly soon could be beneficial.
  6. Alice in Chains is still around. Some of their new songs - Hollow, Stone, Your Decision - holds up but the albums as a whole aren't quite up there. But they are a great band and Cantrell is massively underrated.
  7. Had Duffey thrown harder in the pen yet? If his approach is to pitch like a starter and not push a bit, we might not see improvement.
  8. We have some holdings in India that have been strong for us. Nothing in Russia, Brazil or China though.
  9. Generally, no. That's beyond me. I expect that the Twins have scouts and mechanics are a big part of what they are looking at. If they think someone is a future TJ, they'd (hopefully) note that in their reports.
  10. Yeah, I guess. Molitor really doesn't have the bullpen bullets yet so some of it might just be him being forced to do this. He trusts Kinztler a lot in the closer role but he doesn't really have the big set up arms yet (Pressley should get there). I think once we start bringing up arms like Burdi, Chargois, Melotakis, Jay etc, we'll know more about how the new FO wants the bullpen used.
  11. Some of these arguments came up in a discussion of Red Sox fan behavior. Someone gets really mad and uses a racially charged word or, in this case, a gay slur. I don't think we're wrong to point out how truly awful that type of behavior is and, in reality, it's not that common. We shouldn't excuse it. We've all been furious and probably all of us have refrained from using those sorts of words. MLB did the right thing by giving Pillar a two game suspension. The Red Sox were right to ban that racist fan from Fenway.
  12. Man, Mark Appel. Remember when everyone thought Boras was nuts for not letting him sign with Pittsburgh because he was taking away his earnings on the back end? 28 AAA starts with an era over 5. I asked a few days ago about this Davis guy and lo and behold, he's really hitting. Hopefully that continues. He's been hurt and he's a little old for the level but he's on a nice run. I'll echo everyone else's thoughts on Thorpe, about time and hopefully he gets back on track.
  13. We, as fans, probably get a bit too concerned about whether someone is a 2 or a 3 or a 4. The important part, and what Santana is still doing, is that he's a reliable ML starter. While every pitcher will have bad days (when Johan was winning Cy Youngs, he still failed to have even a quality start 25% of the time) there isn't the constant fear of implosion we have when, say, Phil Hughes or PJ Walters is pitching. We think Santana gives us a better than even chance of winning, which, for where we've been, is pretty good.
  14. Unless there's an injury, we probably shouldn't worry about him. He is what he is, a solid ML pitcher who can occasionally pitch like an all-star.
  15. Yeah, at least he's owning up to it and taking his medicine.
  16. http://deadspin.com/mlb-is-investigating-kevin-pillars-apparent-homophobic-1795334576 Pillar was angry and upset and reacted by using a gay slur. From the article, "Everyone gets frustrated and says dumb **** sometimes, but it doesn’t have to come out with a gay slur. Whether Pillar was at his breaking point or not, he wouldn’t have used that particular word if he weren’t comfortable with it." I would imagine MLB will fine him and/or suspend him for a game.
  17. Yep, the reality is, we're probably not getting the best player from the draft at 1/1. It'll be someone else. So don't worry about it. Get a guy who you know will be a solid ML pitcher and don't overthink it.
  18. Nice job, as usual. I'm not sure I'd want Danner. His size is an issue as a RH pitcher. They don't know if he's a catcher but I don't want to draft a HS in the first round. I dunno. I'd pass on him.
  19. Damn. http://www.cnn.com/2017/05/18/entertainment/chris-cornell-dead/index.html
  20. I'm not sure disappointing but he does seem boring. Wright (and Greene and Adell) have upside that is really exciting while McKay is the safe pick. That said, I'm sure the Twins scouts know more than me but, yeah, go with Wright.
  21. I used to be a McKay guy but I think I've come over to Wright. Sometimes, we overthink things and nitpick. Wright's got stuff, size and comes from a great school. He's known he'd be a ML pitcher for years now and seems to handle everything well. Take him, save a few bucks and get someone who is falling.
  22. Thanks for doing these Seth. I won't be at the book signing but it was nice of Klaw to talk to TD.
  23. Yeah, I think our biggest drafting problems were the 08-11 period. Not a lot out of those drafts and it makes sense. You had a new GM and a new draft guru and they were picking toward the back of the first round in those years. That's a tough assignment. Those drafts are hard to defend. The Stewart draft and Jay drafts (to me) look pretty solid even if the results aren't where we want them. I actually think the Gordon draft (followed by Burdi and relievers) made the least sense but might work out the best. But I very much believe that Brad Steil, who took over as farm director in 2012, has done a wonderful job pushing prospects up the ladder faster than before and getting more out of later round picks.
  24. Sickels mock has Romero falling only to #15 to the Astros. I'm not sure about that but, maybe? And he doesn't have Clarke in his mock. I am hoping that one of those two is taken by us at 35/37.
