  1. Yeah, I think I'm leaning Wright, Gore, McKay at 1/1
  2. I like Gordon a lot. I imagine he'll be in the top 30 or so on the next rankings. He's not in the Buxton/Sano tier but he's in the next tier Kepler-like tier. He/Polanco/Dozier give the Twins a solid trade chip if they can pull it off.
  3. Well, ideas like faith, loyalty and capitalism shouldn't be only on the right. I didn't think much of HRC but I thought she sounded very genuine when she talked about two things - 1) women's rights, she's great on that issue, obviously, and 2) her faith. She didn't do it much but it seemed (at least to me) very real. I was pissed that Trump, who might very well be an atheist, seemed to get the "religious"* vote. I'm hopeful that with the Pope talking about social issues/values, the environment etc some of the religious issues will move people to the left. But I'm an optimist. (We might have an idea how the Paris thing plays out among groups in the next few weeks.) * It also pisses me off that people who vote for Democrats aren't seen as religious. There were millions upon millions of democratic voters for whom faith is a big part of their lives who voted for Obama and Clinton etc. They just aren't (as much) this stupid born-again thing.
  4. Well, I still think the GOP will dump Trump if his approval remains in the low 40s/high 30s but we have to keep pressing them. Gerrymandering pisses me off. There are too many safe districts (for both parties) but we should be able to win things like MN-2.
  5. 1. Join the ACLU. They are undefeated so far against Trump and have sued him on dozens of issues nationwide. 2. Call your local reps and make sure they know how you feel even if they are red state Republicans or deep blue dems. Many states and mayors have said they will stay in the Paris agreement. 3. Vote and make sure you tie Trump to the GOP. 4. Get involved with local people power groups or their equivalent. 5. Use social media to share facts and not just Trump bashing memes or funny articles.
  6. No, the rest is reasonable assumptions based on what was known and reported.
  7. Paraphrasing the LA Times report after the trade but basically they said they (Dodgers) didn't hold De Leon in the same stature as several other prospects and weren't going to move any of those guys (Alvarez, Bellinger, Buehler etc) no matter what. So at the end, it was De Leon straight up or De Leon and "garbage" as Steve Adams guessed. I think the coverage by the sources that we had were pretty good so that we have a reasonable understanding of the offer.
  8. Hunt through the DaveW thread on this. There were tons of links to Heyman, Adams, the LA Times, etc.
  9. http://www.itechpost.com/articles/99024/20170529/winds-winter-release-date-delayed-george-r-martin-focuses-game.htm Probably won't see it until early 2018 at best.
  10. Richie Incognito doesn't say hi. (And, ****, he's another example. Look at all the people who have given him a pass because he's a decent guard).
  11. Ignoring the slight to Shwartz for a moment, what does that say about these drafts? If Schwartz was a top 10 guy in 2015 the team that drafted him would be looking at a bust. And fans would be asking it was the teams fault or Schwartz? And as a college freshman, presumably we'd know more about him than a HS senior. So maybe the bust rates for top picks happens because becoming a ML baseball player is pretty hard and luck is a bigger piece of this than we thought?
  12. Well, change Tennis to any other sport and it's basically happens everywhere. It wasn't that long ago that Joe Nameth tried to kiss Suzy Kolber on MNF. Fans have forgiven extremely boorish behavior - Ray Rice fans defended him in Baltimore for beating up a woman. Viking fans have defended AP. TWolves fans have defended KG's extremely harsh bullying of others. This was just on video.
  13. My bad, thought Kiriloff was 17. I know one of the pitchers was as well. Changing the topic slightly, has anyone heard reports on JJ Schwarz? He was really bad early but had a hot month and was back behind the plate. Has he played himself back into a second round pick?
  14. Yeah, that's a nice list. If the Twins were going to go cheap at 1/1, I'd rather it was still for a pitcher. But having a few hundred thousand to get guys like Eastman to sign in round 11+ would be very nice too.
  15. I remember reading articles like that one and that was one of the reasons I was really excited about last years draft class. I think we drafted five 17 year-olds in our first 10 picks.
  16. I'm not opposed to the idea of getting someone to drop and saving money on 1/1. But I'm concerned about the actual ability to get a guy to drop to 35/37. And the list of guys I want is relatively small. I want at least two college pitchers taken in our first three picks unless some super HS arm dropped.
  17. Yeah, it'd have suggested that but it's a Smith thread.
  18. So, I guess the logic would be: Smith signs for about 3m less than slot. Twins then arrange for someone else (Faedo?) who wants 5m or so to slip to 35 or get two guys in the 20ish range to slip to 35/37 for 1.5m more than slot each? (Canning and Lange)? I think the big problem with that idea is 1) The Twins need pitching and the college pitching seems to be McKay and Wright in the 1/1 conversation, Bukakas and Faedo in the 7-12 rangle and a handful of arms in the 15-25ish range. Guys in the 20ish range could easily fall on their own (see Dakota Hudson last year, Buehler the year before). 2) It seems that with all the high end high school pitching, we're going to see either a college arm or a HS arm drop farther than we expected even if we play the top of the draft straight. 3. While we have the biggest pool, we don't get to pick for a second time until after the Reds so they would be fully capable of 'stealing' a falling arm from us. I'd love a draft of, say, Smith, Faedo, Lange but I'm not sure that's realistic and a draft of Wright, HS arm, Crowe is realistic and probably better anyway.
  19. Reminds me a bit of Colin Moran who walked a ton in college and isn't really a prospect anymore. I think Smith is better and won't bust like Moran but it's a scary comp.
  20. https://www.si.com/tennis/2017/05/30/maxime-hamou-french-open-ban-eurosport-reporter-kiss-video The link has the video although it's in French. The reporter, I thought, did a great job staying professional while the player acted like an ass. From the article - “If it had not been live on air, I would have punched him,” Thomas told the French version of Huffington Post, describing the incident as “frankly unpleasant.” “These situations are trivialized and should not be,” she added.
  21. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/233425760/winfield-mckay-among-top-two-way-prospects/?topicid=151437456 Don't think it should go in the draft thread but it's a nice article about two way stars and talks a lot about Dave Winfield but also mentions Aaron Hicks and both Greene and McKay.
  22. I agree. I watch sports for the entertainment and, if occasionally, a player gets hurt, well, that's just part of the game.
  23. The bolded part is where I always roll my eyes. It doesn't happen. Here's an old article from Bill Simmons on baseball brawls. It's worth a chuckle. http://proxy.espn.com/espn/page2/story?id=1239718
  24. These last three games have been stomach punches but I don't think this team has the quit that, say, the 2013 team had. They need to get healthy but if Buxton doesn't get a freak cut on his hand, we win the first Houston game. If Dozier doesn't try to score from 1st, we probably win the TB game.
  25. Honestly, it seems about right. He was the instigator so he got a couple more days. Odor got 8 days for his fight with Bautista and that's probably the gold standard. MLB can't just push arbitrary numbers for suspensions (unlike the NFL).
