  1. He might be the best hitter. It's either him or Pavin Smith. He might be the best pitcher, too.
  2. I think I'm ok with any of the top tier guys although I lean toward Wright. I am curious on what McKay can do once he stops being a two way player and I think we're putting too much stock in his velocity. He's a stud. He's either the best college pitcher or the second best college pitcher. He's not Scott Baker. If they take Greene, is he fast to the majors like Berrios - meaning 2021 rookie season? If the Twins can take someone in that top teir at 1/1 and still save money for 35/37, great.
  3. I like Adell a lot too but it doesn't seem like the Twins are looking at toolsy HS prospects this year.
  4. This is off topic but HS pitchers - like Stewart - are risks. Stewart, Kolek, Aiken, Bell, Tate are just a few of the recent HS arms taken in the top 10 that look bad. It is what it is. Would people look at that draft differently if Stewart were the 4th rounder and Gonsalves the 1st rounder?
  5. http://www.baseballamerica.com/majors/say-happy-birthday-dave-parker-crazy-relic-video/#RMrP1srHuFqKRff7.97 Lot of fun stuff to see in this old video but the main one is how big Parker's bat was. That was a freaking boomstick.
  6. I probably missed your post. What was your realistic return?
  7. If you want to get rid of Santana to improve our pitching staff it means you think you can get a mini-Santana back in a trade that might be ready by 2019 or you're willing to accept some backend arms under team control like Montgomery. If you think Santana won't be good next year, why would a team trade for him?
  8. I'm on Wright but it could be ok if the Twins think McKay's recent velocity dip is due to a new pitch. Or if it allows us to nab Baz at 35. Or they think Wright has bad mechanics. But, generally, I agree. I think Wright is the better pitcher.
  9. Klaw said someone will draft him on the third day and then depending on PR and how he answers the team's questions, they might keep him. I've also read that Callis thinks no one drafts him. So, I dunno.
  10. Callis is reporting that the Twins like him as a pitcher.
  11. I wonder if this has anything to do with McKay's price or Wright's mechanics, as Jeremy hinted at.
  12. http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/19553422/the-ultimate-mlb-draft-best-pick-ever-every-spot-1-30 It's actually pretty bad. The writer is using only WAR to evaluate and seems to be dividing total WAR by seasons. Mauer doesn't make the honorable mentions for the #1 pick. Kris Bryant over Reggie Jackson, Longoria over Yount, Molitor and Machado etc
  13. Did you expect Dozier to put up a 101 OPS+? Buxton a 52 OPS+? Rosario a 88 OPS+? If not, they are under performing. You're probably right about Mauer.
  14. I mean, you listen on anyone but as discussed in the Santana thread, I don't think that'll happen. My guess is that this offseason the Twins will trade one of Dozier/Polanco/Gordon but, unless we fall off the map, it won't happen during the season.
  15. Checks standings. Yep, we're still in first place while Dozier, Mauer, Buxton and Rosario are all under-performing offensively and Hughes, Gibson and Santiago are under-performing on the rubber. Our pitching is scary but I think it's a bit early to sell Dozier and Santana.
  16. Yeah, he needs to step it up again offensively. He started 2-50 but since the Detroit series, he's hit roughly .250/.330/.345 with a 34% k-rate and 13% bb-rate. But he's been up and down in those 38 games with small hot and cool streaks. Hopefully he improves those numbers and start pushing his OPS up significantly.
  17. I don't think the Twins want to bring Boras clients into their locker room with so many young guys that will be looking for big paydays in the not so distant future. My guess is that Boras is a net negative in the drafting room. I could be wrong. We'll see but I doubt the Twins draft any of Boras' big clients on day one, including Romero. As for Gore, I'd prefer Wright. A lot would have to go right for Gore to be where Wright is in three years. I don't see why we should wait for that when the potential difference isn't that great. Wright is a darn good pitcher already. Take him and move on.
  18. I wish pipeline would do the entire first round. Seems pretty lazy for mlb's own site not to cover that.
  19. I liked this bit from BA's mock draft article "“I recognize the focus on the No. 1 pick,” Falvey said, “but we’re no less focused on 35 and 37 . . . Mike and DJ and (pro scouting director) Vern Followell have all been out with Sean, and (crosschecker) Tim O’Neil could be a scouting director for anybody. We’ve got so much experience and history, and we’re just trying to get the right blend of the ridiculous amount of experience we have here together with a systemic approach that may not have been here before.”"
  20. Man, I realized I've been sort of combing Granite and Wade together for a few years now. Both are late round college guys, LH, OFers. I mean, I knew they were two different guys but I haven't really differentiated them.
  21. Yeah but some players odds of topping out at AA are higher than others. It's not like Wright and Greene have the same chance of not making the majors. Usually, as I understand it, when prospect guys are talking about a floor, they are meaning "this is the floor that we see for this guy, barring injuries, based on the future expectation of the tools we see today." So, Appel, for instance, might not become an ace with two plus pitches and command/control but the expectation of at least one plus pitch and at least average command/control made his floor a #3.
  22. Romero is a wildcard. I'd take him at 35 no question but I don't think you can put his past behavior as "boys will be boys" sort of nonsense. This is a young man who knows his arm is worth millions of dollars and still screwed up multiple times. It's not going to get better by ignoring it. You set him up in a good environment and you spend the resources needed to deal with whatever issues are affecting him. If you don't want to do that, draft someone else.
