  1. Holy crap. I posted and I didn't even realize we played already today. ****. Three runs in the ninth? Glad I missed this one.
  2. Yeah, I liked the Reed signing and I think Rodney could be an arm in a bullpen but he's probably no longer a guy who you want to consider a top 4 guy in your bullpen. Hopefully the FO can figure out a way to straighten out the pen because it sure has the potential to be a dumpster fire this year.
  3. Or they had a fluky season in between two playoff quality ones. Glass half full, I guess. We'll see how this season progresses.
  4. I guess I'm just sick of everyone saying the rebuild hasn't finished yet. It gets old. The Twins aren't rebuilding. They are contending. Whether or not they are good at contending seems to me a better issue for the Twins threads and not the minor league threads. The development guys did their job. I'm not overly worried about three weeks of baseball. We've had too many missed games, nearly two thirds of the games have been on the road and we're missing a few key pieces. I'd still bet on us to make the playoffs.
  5. I think the issue was how long it takes for a rebuild to get around. If we're saying a rebuild is complete only when a team wins a world series, than there are many, many teams with longer rebuilds than the Twins. And the Twins could win the WS this year. They should be a playoff team again. Unless they face the Yankees, they'll have a punchers chance in any series. But the constant useless griping about the "rebuild" has gotten old. This team has an incredibly rich amount of young talent. They've been in the playoff hunt two out of the last three years. The rebuild is over. Now it's on Molly and the FO to see if the Twins can do anything in the playoffs but the minor league development people have done their job.
  6. In fairness, I don't think you can say those guys hurt their arms because they were starting. As a general philosophy, I don't think it was the worst idea to waste some 4-10 round picks on hard throwing arms in the hopes that one might turn into a useful starter and use them as relief pitchers as a backup plan. Most 4-10 picks don't make it so a success there might really help. But it just hasn't worked.
  7. I dunno. His bat path may be the same or it may not. But it also might be slower as he ages. All those pop ups and fouls back on fastballs suggest that Smalley is onto something.
  8. https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/HOU/ Six straight losing seasons, 7 out of 8 years. That seems to be a bit of a grade inflation on your part.
  9. Long run, we'll be fine. I figured us for 90ish wins but I still figured we'd have some 3-7 stretches along the way. That said, my concerns about Molitor have not abated. I don't think he's the right manager for this team. I haven't watched much of these Yankee Twins games but the little I saw was with Bremer and Smalley (who I like in the booth) complaining about Berrios getting squeezed and our hitters having to cover a large zone. When an ump is messing up like that the manager has to get that fixed. Gardy would've gone apocalyptic on the ump and got tossed. Molly just seems to sit there. I don't like his lineups and his bullpen use has been questionable. I felt like the Twins won 85 games last year despite the manager and FO. Not sure that's changed. But the season is young and we have lots of baseball left.
  10. I believe we are now 33-93 against the Yankees since 2002. I'm not 100% sure that counts all our post season losses. I'm not going to check.
  11. Gad. He'll never finish.
  12. So the GOP won a district by 5% that Trump had won by 21%. Nate Silver's write up is pretty good but he's cautious on what this all means. It could mean that GOP holds the house or a Blue Wave. That seems like he's covering all his bases. https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/arizona-8-special-election-result/
  13. Nice to see Baddoo and Kiriloff get more hits. But for the most part, the minors have started a bit flat.
  14. Just saw that your replied to this. So how much "tinged" racism are we supposed to allow? Bringing up racial stereotypes WHEN THEY APPEAR seems to me a good time to address them. No one, to my knowledge, has ever said "[Poster X] you are racist" on Twins Daily. I know I haven't. So that's not the problem. If you can think of a way to tell Poster X that using racial stereotypes isn't a great idea in 2018 in a way that they don't think they are being attacked, great. Start doing it. But you seem to be saying that it is too rude to discuss troublesome posts so we should just not do that. And, as a reminder, posters on TD have made the fried chicken comments. They've made posts about lazy and uneducated people of color.
  15. I didn't see a thread on this and I was gone most of the weekend but, yikes. Danny Farquhar had a brain aneurysm in the dugout and will be hospitalized for three weeks. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/04/white-sox-danny-farquhar-60-day-disabled-list.html
  16. Taijuan Walker out for the year with TJ surgery. Big hit for Arizona but they at least have some depth.
  17. Yeah, Realmuto would be a nice addition, even if I think some of his stats are inflated because of the NL.
  18. Realistically, the Twins are probably one of the playoff contenders who could most use Machado. Would anyone here be ok with giving up Lewis and, say, Romero + Wade + Thorpe for him? I'm not sure if Baltimore would take that offer and I'm pretty sure I don't want us to make that offer.
  19. Yeah, I think that's the big thing. Last year I think it was a fangraphs writer who showed how Santana was pitching differently (they showed a plate appearance against Gallo) to explain why his numbers were better rather than just saying "luck" or "regression." Berrios has been pretty good. Part of that is good stuff but part of that is he's still keeping hitters confused. I'm not sure that's all stuff. Some of it has to be pitching strategy. At least, I would think so.
  20. I think Mike's right. This offseason they were apparently making insane asks on other teams and a market never materialized. I think they'll look into trading him at the deadline but that owner probably won't let them move him unless they get a star back right away. Honestly, the way teams are hoarding prospects and probably how few teams at the deadline will need him (as opposed to could use him, which is everyone) will probably create a muted market and he ends up staying. I don't think he'll get a Sale-like return.
  21. I disagree. I don't care why someone stops saying stuff like Buxton isn't smart enough to play baseball or Sano ate too much fried chicken. I just want them to stop spreading that stuff for others to read. (And, again, no one is labeling anyone racist. They are giving them all the rope in the world to explain their reasons. Some took it. Some hung themselves). We've had this thread going for a week now and a bunch of posters don't seem to understand that coded language exists or that speaking in a way that invites racial stereotypes is bad (other than acknowledging that it sometimes somewhere might happen). It's not the politeness of one side - Brock and Levi and others have made sensible post after sensible post. But they are being ignored. But you know what else we haven't seen as much? Threads using coded language and racial stereotypes. Calling this out when you see it is a good thing, regardless of whether someone might get hurt feelings over it.
  22. Yeah, he's just been pounding the strike zone. I love the lack of walks. He also seems like he could be a 200 inning pitcher, which is getting rare in this day and age. As an aside, it's just fun to watch him (and the other young guys) after years of waiting for them in the minors.
  23. I think Morrison will be ok eventually but maybe not. There are flags. But I think it's probably too early to give up on him but I think he should be moved down in the order. It doesn't help that we don't really have an obvious replacement for him, either. I've never been a big Vargas fan and he's putting up bad numbers again at AAA. Grossman isn't hitting either.
  24. As to posters feelings, I don't really care. I think if we point out that using racially coded language (Buxton isn't smart, Sano is lazy, Rosario won't hustle) we might piss off some people but I also think some people won't post that stuff anymore as well. It's not a one-way street where if our side isn't polite the other side won't come around. No one wants to be associated with racism (except the Richard Spencers of the world) so even if you think it's bull****, you'll see less of these offensive postings. Even if you didn't think your posting was offensive.
  25. Trump surrogates are talking like Trump might have committed a crime. http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2018/04/trumps-lawyer-cohen-forgets-to-pretend-trump-is-innocent.html?utm_source=tw&utm_medium=s3&utm_campaign=sharebutton-t
