  1. It's nice that you found out that Obama's immigration policies in 2014 were horrible. Immigration advocates attacked Obama quite hard, including calling him the deporter in chief well before 2014. And it wasn't until Sen. Rubio spoke up about a potential GOP plan to help dreamers that Obama even consider DACA. But Trump's policies aren't even following the law which is why the Courts are repeatedly finding his actions unconstitutional towards the boarder and asylum seekers. Further, Trump isn't facing the scale of immigration (documented and undocumented) that Obama and Bush dealt with. Trump is stirring up anti-immigrant, anti-Muslim passions and doesn't have any credible plans to deal with his "problem" because there really isn't a problem at all. Trump is racist. His comments about people from Mexico, Puerto Rico, Muslims, Africa, the Central Park five, President Obama and Charlottesville have long put that issue to rest. Whether or not people can support him knowing that is up to those individuals. Ignoring that is also up to them but doesn't change the fact that Trump is racist and pushes a racist agenda.
  2. Maybe. Biden certainly could. And, on paper, Klobuchar could be that candidate. Not sure she really is but she seems to understand that we need to talk with those voters and she's done well in rural MN. I have GOP friends living on farms who say they'd vote for her over Trump, so that's something. Mayor Pete? Beto? I'm not sure they could but I'm not sure they couldn't. Warren probably couldn't either but she does actually have some history there so ... unlikely but maybe? I'm actively horrified of Bernie in this area.
  3. He said if you support Trump, you're supporting "racist, fascist, homophobic, and xenophobic ideas." He's right. Not sure how you can argue that Trump isn't pushing "racist, fascist, homophobic, and xenophobic ideas." I suppose you can pretend that you don't support the "racist, fascist, homophobic, and xenophobic ideas" that Trump is pushing and you just like the other stuff (which, I dunno, what is that?) that Trump is doing. Maybe you liked the tax bill. That was helpful to some. Maybe you just don't like it when people state obvious things, like Trump is pushing "racist, fascist, homophobic, and xenophobic ideas." Can't really help you there.
  4. I will say, after the Mueller report, anyone supporting Trump is ****ing insane. "The Mueller report makes unmistakably clear that Americans were attacked by foreign military units: specifically Russian “Military Units 26165 and 74455.” And it reminds us that the president and members of his campaign invited and welcomed those attacks, even if it did not arrange them, and that they were eager to profit from the proceeds of those attacks. That should be of immense concern. If the attack were a bombing rather than a hacking, perhaps the magnitude of the problem would be clearer. The hack was no less an attack than something more literally explosive." https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2019/04/19/mueller-report-analysis-legal-experts-226662 Even if you want Trump to "own the libtards", it's time to grow up.
  5. Georgia is turning, which is why the GOP is doing everything they can to prevent POC from voting. It'll depend on who the Dems nominate both nationally and in Iowa but I do think a good candidate there + a moderate Dem who can talk about rural issues nationally can flip Iowa. I don't think that is Bernie Sanders.
  6. Looking at the senate map, Trump could hurt his party and a good Dem candidate could help his down ticket selections. At best, the Dems could flip Arizona, Georgia, Iowa, Maine, North Carolina, Colorado. They'll likely lose Alabama unless they get Roy Moore again and there are a few states that they can't ignore but it's a better map than last time out.
  7. I mean, I've read that conspiracy theory too but Graham's most likely about face is that he knows the GOP base is 100% Trump and he doesn't want to be primaried in 2020 from the right. If he was, he could very well lose.
  8. I think if a team aggressively puts a 20 year old in AA and that kid dominates in AA, the team is actively considering him for the majors this year. It might not happen for a number of reasons but I think we can be pretty confident that the FO knows that he's a special talent.
  9. Graterol is impressive. It's also nice to see Cabbage doing well. This is a make or break year for him but it looks like he's stepping up.
  10. I would imagine that the crown especially was protected and CNN is reporting that people are on hand focusing on rescuing the treasures in the cathedral. But there is just so much artwork fastened to the walls that I'm afraid we won't see again. I've been to Notre Dame three times and the giant artwork in each alcove is just beautiful. Many of the pieces are 400-500 years old. Not sure its realistic that they could save those big pieces.
  11. Man, this is depressing. I was in Paris two weeks ago and climbed all the way to the top. Took photos with the gargoyles and my kids loved it. There were so many works of art inside it - hundreds of years old. I saw a sculpture that was well over a thousand years old. I hope they managed to rescue some things from the fire.
  12. Um, dude. You missed the greatest show of all-time. Chuck. I generally don't like a lot of the shows you listed but agree on Westworld. And GOT and Americans are certainly great. ER's first, what 10 seasons?, were fantastic. It went on too long but is pretty much the best hospital drama ever. Dr. Who has been kicking around for 50 years. It's certainly not a top 10 show but Sports Night was a really strong show that didn't get enough rope but it's two seasons are certainly worth checking out, especially if you liked The West Wing. Lastly, Buffy, the Vampire Slayer deserve some honorable mention type.
  13. On the OF, I think Wade and Raley can be a solid corner OFers defensively but one is playing out of position in CF now. As to Rooker, I would expect him to be a below avg defender. So, realistically, the Red Wings are playing two LFers and a 1B in the OF on most nights.
  14. Klaw might have been right about Balazovic. Sounds like he's got incredible stuff.
  15. Disney streaming services are going to be huge. We own some Disney and my wife and I were talking about buying more into our IRAs. We waited and now Disney is up over 10% today.
  16. Well, right now we're probably 95% stock/index funds and I really want to raise the cash part. We'll move around some of that cash so we both can add 6k to our IRA but then we'll have even less cash in our investment account ... so, I don't think we'll do even a small buy until fall.
  17. I decided I'd pass on Uber and Lyft. Partly b/c I'm stashing money for our IRA contributions* but I'm just a bit stock heavy and I probably should hoard cash for a while. I'll probably regret that. *I realize I could buy uber for my IRA.
  18. For those who have them, note that your IRA contribution limit increased this year to $6,000.
  19. Expecting the Pohlads to spend money has always been foolish. They could add a solid starter and improve the bullpen but they won't. Not can't. Won't.
  20. What do you tech folks know of Slack?
  21. Everyone is different and I'm still paying off some of my student loans. But in my thirties my wife and I just decided we'd put X amount into longterm savings (as opposed to a short term savings account) and only lived off of what was left, which required some changes to how we lived. The longterm savings is in an investment account which we've filled mostly with individual stocks but a little bit of index funds as well. It's probably the smartest thing we've done as adults but I wish I had done it sooner.
  22. I agree with most of this. I was hoping he'd break out a while ago but he's really struggling. The one potential thing to remember is that he is a switch hitter and it might take a switch hitter longer to develop, esp since Cabbage didn't come from a baseball hot-bed and didn't play it all year round. He might be like Nico Goodrum who just needed 2000+ minor league at-bats before we know who he is. Cabbage has less than 800 so far.
  23. Yeah, that's about my story too. Seriously, schools should teach basic economic realities to kids so they know how to save. We're pretty good with our kids on that now but man, I wish I had understood this stuff decades earlier.
