  1. not me. He was returned to the Sox in late July, meaning he took up a 25 man spot (or DL spot) and a 40 man spot for almost 2/3ds of the season. For 18 innings of 6 ERA and a fight started in Detroit. An objective look at Twins management should be able to recognize both th good AND the bad. It was a waste of a roster spot, and gave the manager a 24 man team instead of 25 for a good chunk of a season spent clawing for a playoff spot.
  2. Almost surely it wasn't specifically Kinley they targeted, but almost as surely Burdi/Bard were left off the 40 man with the idea that the team would make a rule 5 pick. So they are related, at least partially.
  3. I don't think that's the BEST part, but I suppose it's A part.
  4. if Lewis/Javier work out, also having Buxton would be a fantastic problem to have. If Lewis/Javier don't work out, NOT having Buxton becomes a huge issue. In short, Javier/Lewis have zero to do with signing Buxton.
  5. It's probably already too late to get a reasonably priced extension done. But if Buxton is willing, Falvine better be all iver this.
  6. This is the wrong time to even consider trading Sano. You'd be selling for pennies on the dollar.
  7. Find a RH hitting 4th OFer to spell Kepler against most lefties and we’re likely talking about what a great year Kepler had at this time next year, It’s ok to admit to players’ weaknesses and make simple and affordable roster adjustments. Granite is expendable and lefty mashers aren’t that hard to find.
  8. There’s nobody here old enough.
  9. The only chance Duke doesn't start the season in the Twins bullpen is injury. This isn't "minor," this and Rodney are the 2 biggest moves of the off-season.
  10. Another signing that, if it was the icing on the cake—the 5th or 6th best upgrade to the staff—it would be a nice gamble. As a featured move? Something they appear to be depending on? Consider me underwhelmed. Either all those other GMs paying for actual bullpen help are wrong...or Falvine are wrong. I guess we’ll see.
  11. A contract adding 2 FA years would have been ideal 3 years ago, but that is irrelevant. It didn't happen. As for what to do... make the qualifying offer after 2018, collect the comp pick, and move on. The Twins can't and shouldn't tie up the money he'll get.
  12. 2019 also means the possibility of replacing both Mauer and Dozier. If they’re ignoring 2018 in favor of 2019, I’m even less impressed with new leadership. This team is ready now, holes don’t get cheaper to fill, and new holes pop up all the time. Get on with it already.
  13. Saw “Three Billboards” and absolutely LOVED it. Best I’ve seen in a while. Great script, great acting.
  14. Another data point in my “I desperately WANT to like Falvine, but there’s precious little to actually base anything on so far” file. Other than Castro, and some rearranging of peripheral off-field personnel, what is it someone can point out to me that I’m missing?
  15. Bullpens have been important for a long time, and get more and more important as starters eat up fewer and fewer innings. Sometimes relievers are unable to repeat past success. So what? That doesn't mean it's a good idea to trust your bullpen to pitchers who have NEVER had success.
  16. Not only doesn't it reduce a tax bracket, it increases the amount of money they don't have. If you give $3M to charity, you're out $3M. If you keep that $3M, and pay taxes on it, you keep some portion of the $3M. So you end up with more money by not donating. Giving to charity is giving to charity. It's not about taxes.
  17. And YOUR alternative? If you don’t have it, and won’t buy it with money or prospects, then you are without an elite bullpen. And I believe today as I have for years and years now...the bullpen is incredibly important.
  18. Concur. I’m not a big fan of Rodney, but starting the year with him at closer looks much better if they take a concrete step or two to solidify the rest of the pen. I don’t even know if that’s possible anymore, but I’d sure hate to think they’re done.
  19. I’d like to see the window opened before worrying about when it will close. And Waiting around for the window to open itself doesn’t sound like a good plan to me.
  20. I just wanted to say this post is in the running for POTY. Well played, sir.
  21. Well, the winter meetings are over. Presumably Falvine left a message with Darvish's agent to "Wake me up before you go go." I hope they get some actual help and don't just settle for letting the "Young Guns (Go For It!)".
  22. If this turns out to be the "oh, and btw, in addition to all THAT" move, I love it.
  23. I never tire of reading the Twins don't need to spend on the bullpen because of all the internal options.
