  1. The 8 or 9 pitch AB happens a lot for pitch to contact pitchers, too. Actually more IMO. They can’t get strike three past a hitter, leading to lots of foul balls and long ABs. Typically, the guy starting the 5th inning with 82 pitches isn’t the guy with 7 K’s at that point, it’s the guy with 2. The error in analytics is not in thinking K’s are a positive for pitchers. Rather, the error is in thinking K’s aren’t a negative for hitters. As Ash notes above, an out is NOT an out. Nobody ever knocked in a run on a K.
  2. True, but He’s reached 200 IP every season of at least 32 starts. I guess he could regress badly, but IMO if he makes 32 starts, he’ll get 200 innings.
  3. But that’s part of the attraction of Ohtani. Ohtani will be treated like any other MLB player who comes up from your system. The same as Berrios, for example. Three years of serfdom, followed by three years of arbitration-eligibility. He could be extended, but doesn’t HAVE to be extended. There is zero salary commitment over and above what ANY rookie gets. He can’t be a FA sooner than when ANY rookie can be. Are you sorry the Twins spent $6m on a signing bonus for Buxton, and now have to worry about paying him? $3m on Sano? EVERY team in MLB would sign him if he said yes.
  4. We should all hope Santana reaches 200 IP in 2018. If he does, he was healthy and made 32+ starts.
  5. Obtain CAN'T get too much money. He'll be playing for the MLB minimum.
  6. Interesting idea Nick. Like others, I’d be on board if, and only if, the Twins ended up adding two good starters as a result. Trading Santana and signing Darvish makes little sense to me. Trading Santana, while adding Darvish and Cole, or Darvish and Ohtani? Ok.
  7. You've forgotten Hideki Matsui already? I wish I could Matsui had 175 MLB HRs, and 173 of them came against the Twins. Of which, 171 came after the 7th inning, and wiped out a Twins lead. You can look it up.
  8. Ohtani pitches Will he for our Twins come spring? Oh, he also hits.
  9. It’s very rare for posts to get deleted. They get hidden. It’s a fine line, I know. You can’t see them, but we still can. That way we can get together for a ridicule party at our leisure. Chitown is the usual ringleader, BTW.
  10. Been saying the same for years...the only explanation that makes sense is, the Pohlads really aren’t contributing a dime to the cost of building TF.
  11. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone at here at TD. Fully concur with the comments above...among many things in my life to be thankful for, TD is certainly one to include. Thanks everyone!
  12. I guess it's possible but why would his KBL team agree to that?
  13. Nitpick: Park is owed $3m in 2018, not $6m. The posting fee was paid at the time he signed. that money was budgeted for that year and is almost certainly not included in the 2018 budget. http://www.startribune.com/twins-sign-byung-ho-park-to-four-year-12-million-contract/359660611/
  14. I think, most of all, this demonstrates the folly of depending on your minor league system to supply your relief needs. I can't remember how many times I've read the Twins didn't need to sign bullpen help, because doing so would block so and so. The Twins farm system was just overloaded with all these top end arms. They've gotten virtually nothing from that.
  15. I don’t know for sure about his diet, but I for sure have concerns about weight. In the end, the weight is what matters anyway.
  16. The post in question had zero to do with Clevelanf or Houston. It referenced the Twins and 5 other wild card contenders. And said post gave the Twins pockets 8s, which was the best hand pre flop, and ended up winning the pot, as the best hand preflop often does.
  17. Twins had the best hand preflop, best hand after the flop. Should have pushed all in!
  18. one major difference: baseball GMs get to change the cards they hold during the game. They get to add to, or subtract from the roster. I still don't think the Twins playoff chances changed significantly because of a rough series in LA. If they were adding before that, they shouldn't be subtracting after
  19. It's as simple as, a team doesn't go from in contention, to not in contention, in 6 days in the middle of the season.
  20. changing their minds, in less than a week, doesn't inspire a lot of confidence. At least to me.
  21. Well played, sir. Fitting the Post Of The Year appears in the MOY thread.
