  1. he's been doing that for a while now, you expect it to change in the postseason?
  2. my guess is its MORE likely Rogers is asked to get 4, 5 or 6 out saves in the postseason. And I strongly doubt Baldelli gives anyone but Rogers save opportunities as well. Rogers has been the "closer" for a while now. There's been no "playing matchups." Like it or not, that's pretty much the way Baldelli has been playing ot for months, and I highly doubt he changes in the postseason.
  3. I didn't even know you had twins. Boys? Girls? Anyways enjoy the game!
  4. I would wager a great deal of money Arraez doesnt keep that up against LH pitching.
  5. Great clutch hit from Kep, really nice win. However...Adrianza's decision to go 1st to 3rd on that hit was really, really bad. Terrible. He made it, but close enough that he never should have went. That could have cost the Twins the go ahead run.
  6. I think Schoop clearly "finds his way into an optimal Twins lineup" against LH pitching.
  7. Graterol has not been starting since his activation off the DL. He's not stretched out, zero time to do so. He's not getting any starts in the remainder of 2019. Possibly in an opener role, but not as a traditional starter.
  8. Personally, I note the HR record as a mildly interesting side note to the season. Lots of HRs help win games, but setting a record...who cares? Particularly in a season where there's obviously something going on with the ball. I care lot more about winning the division, so yesterday's loss is much, much more interesting to me. If setting a HR record got you a postseason spot, maybe I'd give a darn. YMMV, if course, but I think it's fair for some to talk more about the loss.
  9. There's literally an article currently on TD listing the 10 highest WPA HRs for the 2019 Twins. Schoop is on the list.
  10. Don't be ridiculous. Kirk Cousins doesn't have the arm strength to cause a concussion.
  11. Baseballs get compressed. Miguel Cabrera HR shown above.
  12. starting isn't an option for this fall. He hasn't been a starter since May. He hasn't gone longer than 2 innings or 29 pitches since returning from injury. He actually has only 11 IP since coming back in late July. I would be skeptical he'd be someone trustworthy in the postseason, but they do have some time to give it a shot now, if they get him up here. Find a few low leverage situations to give it a shot after Sep 1.
  13. IMO one huge difference between current defensive stats, and things like slash stats is, while slash stats might be unsustainable, or lucky, or whatever, there is zero doubt they measure what actually happened. Player X got on base 175 times in 500 PAs, his OBP is .350. Maybe that's not a good way to estimate next year's OBP for that player, or maybe it is, but at least we're dealing in fact, about things that actually happened, and are accurately measured. The same can't be said about any of the defensive stats. They're simply numerical representations of what somebody, somewhere, decided they would attempt measure as a way of estimating how effective a given player's defense is. We don't even know if what they measure is important, nor if they measure it properly if it IS important.
  14. Nice outing for Martin Perez. I hope Schoop and Cron continue to face any LH pitching the Twins see.
  15. The story at MLB.com suggests Buxton could be back as soon as Tuesday in Chicago, barring any setback. I strongly doubt anything like 10 days.
  16. you can keep both Cave and Kepler in the lineup by playing Kepler at 1st. Although as you note, keeping Cave in the lineup probably isnt a long term goal. And for me, all of that comes second to getting a healthy Buxton back into CF. I dont lengthen Buxtons IL stint for anyone.
  17. They basically admitted to lowballing Toronto when they said they were frustrated they didn't get the chance to up their offer...to beat an offer by the Mets that almost everyone, including Brock, has said was surprisingly low. Unless you believe the Twins offered more, and Toronto decided to take the lesser offer. Falvine can't have been frustrated unless they made a low offer to begin with.
  18. Cave has really stepped up recently. Ditto Sano. The infield defense might be worse than the pitching. But today goes in the W column. Much needed.
  19. I mentioned 4 in the part of my post you left off. And again, just because someone wasnt traded, doesnt mean the Twins couldn't have acquired him. Which is the crux of the situation. Falvine refused to pay the asking price. For starters who WERE traded, and starters who werent. They CHOSE not to add a starter. It was a conscious decision. Let's hope they survive that decision. Final thought: the whole "frustrated" by Toronto thing sticks in my craw. Read up on what went into Houston acquiring Verlander. And Greinke. The Houston front office didn't make a call, and then sit back and wait for Detroit to get back to them, or AZ this year. Both of those deals were complicated, tough, and went down to the last minute. But Houston decided they wanted to make those deals happen, and through dogged perseverance and a refusal to give up, found a way to make them both. What they didn't do was make a half hearted offer and then wait for a call back, and then get a media lapdog to report how frustrated they were.
  20. brock...I didn't bring up Stroman. You did. I agreed with a post that said an additional starter would make it easier to rest Berrios. Which is 100 percent true, not to mention another option should they manage to hold onto this ALC lead and make it to a division series. And after you brought up Falvines "frustration" I said they obviously made a low ball offer. Which they HAD to have made. If they were indeed frustrated, THEY must have liked Stroman, no? And Thats a lot more important than whether I like him. And I DONT like Stroman, which has nothing to do with wishing the Twins had had the courage to acquire a good starter at the deadline. Given my drothers, that WOULDNT have been Stroman. I would have liked to see them have the backbone to get Syndergaard. It could have been done, I think. Maybe Greinke. Robbie Ray. Gallen was traded from Miami. I dont know who, but it's not like anyone was asking for the impossible. They supposedly have money, and everyone tells me how strong and deep the farm is. Use it.
  21. well, if you believe their story, then Falvine WERE in contact, and they obviously didn't make an offer that topped the Mets offer that got the job done. They lowballed, rather than make a good offer. Toronto hung up the phone and moved on. So they really have nobody to blame but themselves, no? And for the record, I didn't bring up Stroman in this conversation, you did. I simply agreed with the point that another starter would have made it easier to give a guy like Berrios some extra rest.
  22. I gave them a "C" for the trade deadline. But there is no doubt additional pitching would have been useful. It's not my job to name the starter they should have acquired. It's their job. They were "frustrated" by Toronto? Come on. Seriously. You honestly believe another GM wouldn't try to top that offer, if he had any reason to believe the Twins were serious? Or is it more likely they were lowballed by the Twins, and that's the reason they didn't bother with a call back? Or maybe they did, and the "frustration" is PR. Other GMs found a way to get things done. I wish ours had been bolder. Another starter would have been pretty nice. Allowed for more leeway to give our other starters a break, maybe. Like noted above.
