  1. Very hard to keep the faith in an organization that has kept Matt Shoemaker on the roster over the past several weeks.
  2. Pretty nifty pitching, José. Would like to see that a little more often.
  3. Not to worry Rocco, we'll handle that.
  4. "Nothing left on the 40 man" isn't an excuse for the frontoffice, it's a condemnation. Rocco's pretzel logic on the pitching moves leaves me shaking my head. "Well, we couldn't keep up with the changing game situation." That's literally your job...in fact, it's to be AHEAD of the game situation. You "put your players in the best chance to succeed" by thinking ahead. Not by reaction to events.
  5. If they can turn Pineda into a LH bullpen piece that throws 98 they should do it yesterday.
  6. Another game lost by that fantastic bullpen Falvine put together. Special thanks to both of them for ensuring the Matt Shoemaker experience didn't end with his long overdue removal from the rotation.
  7. They used him on back to back days, which is the issue. According to the radio broadcast, hes never pitched back to back in his professional career.
  8. The post game excuse is apparently a "ripped fingernail" for Dobnak. Good lord. Lame.
  9. But they're not up at a "ridiculously high rate." The full season rates for 2017 and 2018 are a little lower than the 2021 rate, but 2019 is higher. If you combine 2017-19, as an average, it's almost Identical to 2021. There's no data in this article that should lead anyone to conclude 2021 is remarkable for injury rate.
  10. Interesting article, Tom. Thanks. I have lots of thoughts running through my head, but for now, can you explain the theory that 2020 has had any effect on 2021 injuries? As I read your data, 2021 isn't unusual in terms of the number or length of IL stays. Am I reading that wrong? And why would fewer games played in 2020 lead to more injuries in 2021 anyway? If, for example, Rocco's habit of giving players more time off has benefits, then shouldn't shorter seasons also lead to more health in the future, rather than less?
  11. Why are they wasting whatever few precious days Buxton is able to suit up with rehab in the minors? He should have been starting in Target Field tonight. Seriously.
  12. I believe if hitters chose to, they could certainly punish shifts to a degree that would make shifts counterproductive.
  13. I don't think that's what he meant. And it's not at all what you said.
  14. Nobody can "control" exactly where the ball goes, but many RH MLB hitters used to be able to hit a ground ball to the right side on a hit and run at a rate considerably higher than "random chance." The idea that a LH hitter can't learn how to consistently bunt hard down the third base line, or regularly take an outside pitch to left, is pretty questionable. The thing is, somebody has to decide things like that are important. That swinging from the heels at every pitch, in any count, in any situation, isn't the best way to play offense. Somebody, somewhere will, and soon. And it'll take a little time, but it'll work, and all the analysts at Fangraphs will marvel at the new way to play. Which won't be new. Shifts didn't just happen recently because nobody thought of them before. They wouldn't have worked, because players could handle a bat.
  15. I still push them aside, when the nice orderly tries to make me eat them in the home.
  16. The risk in signing $2m starters and depending on them is seen in the 2021 Twins results.
  17. Sorry, Spy, none of this makes much sense. If they "need" a long guy, which nobody carries any more, give Jax the starts and make Shoemaker the long guy. But worrying about that is pointless anyway. If Maeda makes his rehab start, he's not taking Shoemaker's next start. It's not a matter of 3.5 or 3.75 months...it's a matter of not wasting starts on a one year FA who isn't any good, in a lost season. There is no reason to have Shoemaker on this team. None.
  18. KC is a trip every Minnesota based Twins fan should make. Easy drive, good food, and great ballpark.
  19. I can't see any justification for continuing to throw Shoemaker out there. I don't understand how he's gotten his last few starts, much less how he is still on the team after the most recent debacle. Jax or Barnes could take his starts, just off the top of my head. Barnes could take Shoemaker's roster spots. It's either front office incompetent or hubris at this point, IMO.
  20. "Right now, there's no change in our rotation," Baldelli said. "Which is a damn shame, because it's still awful."
