  1. OK, but at my age don't take all day.
  2. Boy, I strongly doubt Brooks Lee plays MLB baseball this year. I even more strongly doubt if he does, it'd be at 1st base.
  3. One name remains 1.(Miguel Cabrera) 2. Joey Votto 2124 3. Freddie Freeman 2061 4. 5. Nelson Cruz 2053 6. Andrew McCutchen 2033 The missing name is tough. I'd never have gotten it without cheating
  4. Nelson Cruz #4 on our list (5th among active players).
  5. Joey Votto is #1 (2nd among active players), Freddie Freeman #2 (3rd active player) on our list I'm not sure exactly where he is, but I think Altuve is closing in on 2000 hits. Not on our 2-6 list though.
  6. Miguel Cabrera's last 2 games at TF, barring a miracle finish to 2023. Miggy leads all active MLB players with 3145 hits. Today's quiz: who are the next 5 on the list? (Hint: Miggy is a little over 1000 hits ahead of 2nd place, but only a little more than 1100 hits ahead of 5th place.)
  7. My point is, move away from the idea of a "#5 starter." That's not a useful way to imagine a rotation. Much like "he's just fine batting at the bottom of the order" is a poor rationalization for a poor hitter, "he's an OK #5" is a poor rationalization for a below average starter. Aim higher. Aim higher than Randy Dobnak.
  8. How did the Twins survive a poor offense so far this season? By not having a "4" or "5" in their rotation, that's how. And lots of teams throughout history haven't sullied their rotation by planning for below average guys, or worse. You settle for a guy like Dobnak getting a few starts somewhere along the way due to circumstances. You don't hand him a rotation spot and expect to be a legit contender. Again, the goal isn't to have a 1 through 5. You're the one describing Dobnak as a 5. Why would you be ok with that? That's no different than wanting Gallo next year because "it's not realistic" to expect better.
  9. First off, I don't accept the premise that there is such a thing as a "number 5 starter." Each starter is as important as the other 4. The games they start count the same. The goal isn't to have 1 guy way above average, 1 guy a little above average, one guy average, one guy a little below average, and one way below average (a "1", a "2", a "3" a "4", and a "5".) The goal is to have 5 guys all way above average. Come as close to that as you can. Planning for a "5" in your rotation is stupid. It's like planning for 2 guys that can't hit, because you have 2 guys who can. And, in the specific case of Randy Dobnak, he's awful.
  10. "You can shake a dozen glove men out of a tree, but the bat separates the men from the boys." - Dale Long
  11. If Randy Dobnak comes anywhere near the Twins rotation, either many things have gone wrong or Falvine have given up.
  12. Who is this local example Dervish? Which Wheeler wanted to stay on the west coast? The one in Philly?
  13. FTR, the NYY last had a sub .500 season in 1992.
  14. Speaking of the Yankees... Going into tonight they're 60-58. I think there's a real chance they end the season below .500. Pop quiz: (no cheating) when was the last time the Yankees finished a season below. 500?
  15. Maybe I missed it. At what point during Gray's 8 pitch, 1-2-3 6th inning did Jeffers come out to talk?
  16. Indeed. The most concerning thing to me is the fastballs he doesn't hit.
  17. I. Link? 2. Arraez August production for the Marlins is "a big reason for the Twins previous fades?" "I'm not sure I agree with you a hundred percent on your police work there, Lou."
  18. I think Ryan went on 15 day IL on 3 Aug. Can't come back until at least the 18th. They can get there without using Kuechel given 2 off days this week. Lopez' regular turn would be the off day Thursday.
  19. Twins lead a postseason game 3-2, top of the 8th coming up. Opposition has the top of the order due up. Thielbar not available. Starter not an option. Who pitches? I give the ball to Pagan over Jax.
  20. I'm a "better to remove a starter too early than too late" guy, but even I can't imagine why Gray didn't come out for the 7th. 8 pitches in the 6th. Hadn't had a stressful inning since the 2nd. That said, fantastic job Mr Gray, and well done Twins getting 2 of 3.
  21. I did like that today, at least, Pagan threw a lot of fastballs. And pretty well located, at that. IMO he's got enough fastball to do that, and his troubles often arise from breaking balls poorly located, or falling behind with breaking stuff and being forced into "get it over" fastballs. I nice slider down and away, ahead in the count, is fine. I'd like to see Jax throw more fastballs, too.
  22. Right or wrong, I'd Wager there's no decision on Gallo unless/until Kirilloff returns to the active roster. Then I don't know what the Twins will do. But they clearly believe they need him at first base.
