  1. LOL. That's...not very insightful. 20 years, over 3400 hits, lifetime .310/.377/.440. Top10 in MVP voting 8 times. Still playing a solid shortstop through his last day. Jeter is, if anything, UNDERrated.
  2. Well Jeffers can't catch every game, so Vazquez is gonna get some play. However, I don't understand why Vazquez has more PAs than Jeffers.
  3. I always pull for the Twins, but I have recently decided Rocco is too much a net negative to continue on as manager. I believe he costs them games.
  4. Gee, wouldja look at that...when you PH in the 5th or 6th inning, you might actually be GIVING UP THE PLATOON ADVANTAGE as often or more often than you gain, and IT MIGHT BE IN AN ACTUAL IMPORTANT plate appearance.
  5. So far this isn't improving my mood after that Gopher debacle.
  6. Pretty solid. There's some talent for the next GM to start from. Pitching has imploded though.
  7. According to this article, 8. https://www.nbcsportschicago.com/mlb/chicago-cubs/heres-how-rare-angels-bases-loaded-intentional-walk-of-corey-seager-was/323129/
  8. Not to belabor this....ok I'll belabor it. It's not a hit and run. The count was 3-2. Baldelli put the runner in motion in an attempt to avoid the DP. He trusts the hitter to either swing and make contact, or take ball four. Ot maybe get lucky and get a stolen base on strike 3. A hit and run is given on counts of less than 2 strikes, often 1-0 or 2-1 where there is a high probability of a strike, because the hitter doesn't have the option of taking the pitch. He's expected to swing to protect the runner, preferably by hitting behind the runner to RF. The plays are different. A runner in motion on 3-2 is not a hit and run play. Similarly runners in force out situations taking off on a 3-2 pitch with 2 out aren't executing a H&R either.
  9. One of my favorite calls comes from the 87 ALCS. Bob Costas: "They got Nokes!" Gagne threw out Matt Nokes from wayyyyyy deep in the hole.
  10. You put your left foot in, you take your left foot out, you put a right foot in, Rocco's pinch hitting all about....
  11. Concur. The primary objective of a hitter is to get a good pitch to hit, and hit it. It's not to hope for a walk. 1-0, 2-0, 3-1 pitches are counts that in most cases a hitter should look for a pitch to hit. Need multiple baserunners late? Fine, take a pitch and see if the guy can throw strikes. Otherwise? Look to attack.
  12. Ron Gardenhire, Bill Rigney, Billy Martin, Cal Ermer and Sam Mele say hi. Also, we have a different definition of "vitriol."
  13. I also watch sports for entertainment and fun. And for me, if I don't care about the outcome, there's little to no entertainment or fun. When I no longer care if the Twins win or lose, I will no longer pay any attention to the Twins. I hope that day never comes. I want losses to sting, because I want wins to be enjoyed. YMMV.
  14. I don't believe for a second that Vazquez against a RH reliever gives them a better chance at extending that game than Julien against a LHer. And hey! Howaboutthat!!?? Vazquez is walking back to the dugout three pitches later, with the last a feeble swing at a pitch halfway into the LH batters box.
  15. For one thing, it wasn't a hit and run. It was a full count.
  16. This isn't fact. This is a pretty dubious opinion. Even if we use the publicly available umpire ball/strike stats, they call balls and strikes correctly something like 94% of the time. "Close" pitches are either a ball or a strike. It's not a coin flip and hitters shouldn't pretend it is. Nor will they get a 50/50 split on calls.
  17. I don't agree with either of those things. I also don't agree Baldelli is getting manager of the year votes, FTR.
  18. Maybe you missed this, Nick...or maybe you left it out on purpose: Vazquez against RH pitching .215/.280/.265 And, predictably, three pitches, and a couple feeble swings later, Vazquez walks back to the dugout and TB is high fiving. Simply awful managing, and BTW if Rocco wasn't so easily manipulated into replacing his better hitters in the middle innings maybe he'd be left with something other than Christian Vazquez to pinch hit. When this happens in the post season let's see if you still shill.
  19. Wanted to do Charlie Manuel (obvious Cleveland connection) but couldn't find a pic with number visible. So I "settled" for a personal fav.
  20. Yeah, I don't think so. But if true, I'd say that's maybe worse. There is no world in which I think Vazquez is a better option than Julien. And I'm a guy who strongly believes in the platoon advantage. For me, it IS the straw that broke the camel's back. Others may disagree.
