  1. Sano costs Buxton a triple ...
  2. Harsh on Larnach! But I can't disagree. This is one of the things not to like about rankings: there are times when two or more deserve the prize (and times when no one does).
  3. You're forgetting "can't run."
  4. How about Hal Narragon's replacement as Earl Battey's backup?
  5. Yelich sure hasn't looked like a star in this series...
  6. Just saw a mini-ad for orthopedic care featuring Buxton. I assume this is not a coincidence...
  7. Who would have expected to win this one with Smeltzer making the start? Wow! There is something special about this team!
  8. I remember Narragon pretty well. He was Earl Battey's backup catcher in the early 1960s. I thought he was on the team mostly so that Battey wouldn't be the slowest player. A tortuga before his time.
  9. I would hazard an outsider's guess that more than half of most MLB rosters would qualify medically for the IL for one reason or another at any point in time. That leaves a lot of room for strategic "injuries" (and also for players to "gut it out" or fail to inform the club of their maladies in order to try to boost their stats).
  10. Well, not counting those of us who don't eat meat ...
  11. Pineda must have a clause in his contract paying him extra for "quality starts." He seems to go exactly 6 innings with exactly 3 runs almost every game.
  12. Astudillo: "Throw 95 mph at my head and I'll hit 105 mph at yours!"
  13. Not much looking forward to playing the likes of Chelsea next year.
  14. Just a fan. When I started watching English FB seriously about 10 years ago I just found a lot to like in the team and its history/tradition.
  15. Weird experience: A couple of innings ago Dick & Jack mentioned Joe Mauer. Despite having watched most Twins games this year, I actually haven't thought about Joe or his absence for weeks! Winning is distracting! And I'm on cloud 9 today anyway because my favored football team achieved promotion to the Premier League this morning (Pacific time). With the relegation/promotion system in England, the difference in TV money between winning and losing this game is about $250 million. Happy day for me, even if the Twins don't manage to hold onto this one!
  16. White Sox need to teach the Brewers a thing or two about (not) catching popups!
  17. Economists claim that all Federal Reserve Notes are equally intelligent. But some might argue that those from the Minneapolis Fed are more stupid...
  18. From the Chicago Sun-Times: How cool is it that other teams are starting to think they should emulate our Twins and putting them together with Boston and Houston?
  19. Sorry to see that Bart Starr passed away today. Yes, I know he was a Packer, but I found it easy to root for those GB teams in the first Super Bowls. And he always seemed like a class guy.
  20. I know this is just a dream. I just hope I don't wake up until November.
  21. Did Kaat ever do a game with Vin Scully? I'd watch that just for the commentary!
  22. Injury did not look good. I just hope he is back for September.
  23. I wonder if it matters that Detroit has Hildenberger's former pitching coach (and manager). Would they have any insights on his gimmicky delivery that might not be generally available and would help their hitters?
  24. Must be "regression-to-the-mean" day (as well as Mother's Day). Slumping Gonzalez and the bottom three in the order went 9-for-14. The rest of the team---the guys who have all the gaudy stats so far---went 1-for-23.
