  1. I've watched some video on Hildenberger. To me, he looks very hit-able. His delivery looks very slow and not very deceptive, which makes it easier to pickup the ball. The cross-over step is helpful against righties, but just further exposes the ball to lefties. Watch Neshek's delivery. Quick and aggressive. I just don't believe Hildenberger will be around very long.
  2. Fernando Romero: The hard-throwing writer.... Has he been published?
  3. To me, just another learning moment for Berrios. Teams will be loading up on him over the first couple innings now.
  4. Reports I've read say that Pat Neshek can be had for a low-level prospect. I'm assuming that's mostly based on his age [36]. But he is a side-winder, so there's significantly less stress on the arm. Also, whomever makes the trade will only be responsible for $3m of a $6m contract. I'm just not seeing a downside here: Keep Matt Belisle or take a "gamble" on Neshek. This, to me, is a no-brainer. Of course, I'm also the dreamer that remembers the mediocre 1st half of 1987 and 1991, and how things ended up in the 2nd.
  5. With the Yankees, when Hughes got hurt, they'd rehab him and put him in the bullpen. And Hughes was successful there. Then they put him back in the rotation, where he got hurt again. I don't think Hughes' arm is built for the stress of a starter. The Twins can get value using him in long relief [which I think the Twins really need] by saving the arms of other relief pitchers. Now, the use of pitchers have changed in the MLB: starters pitch a lot shorter game and bullpen by committee takes over. So it still bears the question: would/could Hughes be successful as a 5 inning starter? Not sure I'd take the risk.
  6. I guess what is all comes down to is this: there's no "one size fits all" when talking about people/pitchers throwing 90+ mph from an abnormal arm movement. I'd be really interested in seeing follow-up reports on those who the surgery failed and those that were successful.
  7. In the immortal words of Crash Davis: "Don't try to strike everybody out. Strikeouts are boring! Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic." Personally, I don't like putting in a "closer" when the team has a lead. I think that's how we burned out Perkins with those extra faux Saves. Let them get an extra day of rest. If the team loses those games, well, you better look for help elsewhere.
  8. I don't know who the color-guy was for this game, but his laughing during the Gimenez home run made my day!!
  9. Kyle Gibson Career record: 36W, 43L Career ERA: 4.76 Career WHIP: 1.45 [below average] WHIP this year: 1.83 [well, it's off the FanGraphs scale...] And it's not like he's a big innings eater anymore. I see no lose in losing Gibson. Actually, might be better for the Twins. Start a rotation of MiLB SP call-ups and see what happens.
  10. Report on yesterday's game: Twins were under the weather with a case of the Quintana's.
  11. By "join the Saints" you mean, what, exactly? OH, the MN independent team! Whew, for a second I thought Twins Daily was going really dark there...
  12. Sad, but so true.... I'm at least a little hopeful that the callup of Gee and Hildenberger will be helpful.
  13. So, Vargas can hit and makes great RIBs?? Where does the line start???
  14. I think we can safely put Berrios in the "Arrived" category, no? Buxton's BA is now up to .211, a hit and a walk. Is this another "time-off" thing, like Sano and Rosario? I hope so. I'd really like to see this kid succeed. Max: 2 hits off a lefty. If the Twins OF keeps trending like this: UFDA!
  15. Thanks again for the writeup. Damn work schedule anyhow..... "That'll help" LOL! Strib did an article on Vargas working on his right-handed swing. With the majority of MLB pitchers being righties, [137 left-handed pitchers and 354 right-handed pitchers currently on MLB rosters or approximately 39% lefties.] ...it's no shocker that a switch-hitter would have problems with the lack of reps. Nice call by Vargas. Nice Swing!
  16. Ahem, in other baseball news, the Brewers just released Neftali Feliz. "However, after getting off to a hot start to the year (one earned run on two hits and two walks with seven strikeouts through his first seven appearances), Feliz’s performance has plummeted. Over his past 22 appearances, he’s been torched for a 7.17 ERA — yielding 21 runs (17 earned) on 21 hits with a 14-to-13 K/BB ratio. Feliz has served up a staggering eight homers in just 27 innings this season and had lost the closer’s role to breakout reliever Corey Knebel well before being designated." Sooo.... we're talking possible bounce back, right?
  17. As I mentioned in another threat, I have to wonder if Rosario needs more time off, just like Sano. Sano starts striking out a lot, Molitors gives him a couple days rest and Sano comes back hitting like a mad man. After reading the Zack Granite discussions over the past couple days, I'd still stay with Rosario. If Granite can get a few hits and play better defense than Grossman, hell yeah, bring him up and give Rosario the 'Sano Treatment' ! Wish I had the stats to prove all this. Just way too early in the morning....
  18. Completely agree. But then, I've always a bit of a homer for Rosario. Not to say I'm this guy: http://www.cazacomics.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/homero_simpson.png Just an observation from one guy: I have to wonder if the Twins intermittently sitting Eddie more is the reason is doing better this year. Like what they're doing with Sano. Overall [again, like the classic Homer here] I think this team is on the uptick. I think the combination of a baseball lifer [Paul Molitor] and the new-age management is a fantastic combo. Great returns this year? In terms of MLB level development, yes. And along the way, they'll need a guy like Zack Granite.
  19. Fair warning to DaveW: this may make your head explode: From RotoWorld: "Alex Meyer allowed two hits with a walk over six scoreless innings with nine strikeouts in a win against the Royals on Saturday. Meyer evened his record at 3-3 after the quality start. He has three quality starts over four June outings, lowering his ERA from 5.79 to 3.52 just since May 20. Meyer has also rolled up 19 strikeouts over the past 16 2/3 innings, although he is still a risky play in most mixed formats. Jun 18 - 12:54 AM" Apparently, a better curveball is making a difference. http://www.gifimagesdownload.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/best-head-explode-gif-511.gif
  20. Must be about the last shot for Wimmers, no?
  21. Well, in my mind, there's a big difference between fearless and foolish. That one looked to me like he should have played it off the wall. But, hindsight...... I hate going back to this well again, however: I think another call from Torii Hunter is in order. Buxton needs to start thinking long-term.
  22. Great seeing Berrios working his way through the game and pitching into the 8th. Twins bullpen really needed a day off.
  23. Yeah. Being able to see him play over the past few years, I don't know if Buxton has a read feel for where the outfield wall is. In the video above, I don't see him even looking.
