  1. "With the Aaron Hicks trade, it may be more possible that Byron Buxton will make the team right out of spring training." Sounds about right. This past year, people had to get hurt before Buxton got called up. This time, had to get rid of someone. I'd like to see him force his way onto the team. I don't understand why people keep saying Sano in LF. Rosario had pretty darn good 1st year. If Sano's not going to be a good defender in the OF, at least put him in RF where his arm strength will be more useful. Ryan has only talked about Sano as an RF'r. I don't see Plouffe being traded at all. The starting staff could really use a guy with some pop in his fastball. Bullpen? Signs of life...... I like as much speed as I can get at the top of the lineup: CF D. Santana - counting on 2014 as reality SS Escobar - earned the job LF Rosario - earned the job + xbh power RF Sano - um, where he belongs? 3B Plouffe - some backup for Sano 1B Mauer - bat and speed play better here 2B Dozier - hitting behind on OBP guy like Mauer makes sense DH Arcia - short leash C Murphy - fantastic pickup, imho Bench: Nunez, Vargas maybe Polanco or any good contact hitter. SP: I go with Seth: Phil Hughes, Ervin Santana, Kyle Gibson. Duffey earned it. I like Milone, but he's another guy what would look better on a staff of hard thowers. I'd be more motivated to move Nolasco at any cost. RP: Perkins/Jepsen as co-closers. The minor leaguers out of options du jour. I'd be happy as hell if they could bribe O'Day into signing.
  2. IDK He looks to be overwhelming some underwhelming pitchers.
  3. Thanks Nick for setting some realistic expectations. Norris would definitely fill a need, no real question there. In the other possibles, I like the idea of doing a 1+ deal. Of those, I like the proposed Atlanta deal the best. If this is gonna happen, when do you think it will? I'm guessing after they run Sano out to 3B several days in a row in Spring Training.
  4. I wish. About 4 years ago. Lee has a pretty long history of injuries. When healthy, he was one of the best.
  5. Overall, I don't believe that the Twins are in a good enough position as a team overall to go out and trade their better minor league players, plus some veterans, to acquire a true Ace. The Twins spending a lot of bucks to buy and Ace is a nice bedtime story for the kiddies :-) The whole "looks like a real Ace" thingy: I'd be happy with the not-so-Acey Johan Santana, Frank Viola, Brad Radke and a great 6 inning from Francisco Liriano.
  6. My bet is Terry Ryan would be concerned that it took 2 years for Wieters to recover from TJ surgery. More recent, players are recovering [or at least, seem like] faster than ever. If Wieter's salary request goes beyond the 4 @ $60m I'd probably walk away. Intrigued by Avila and Pena. Maybe Soto.
  7. The interview with Terry Ryan was very interesting
  8. Hmmm, not this year. Still a possibility late in the year. But that probably wouldn't happen unless Terry Ryan suddenly turned into Trader Jack. P.S. Walker batting 8th?
  9. yup, you are correct, sir! Still not overly sentimental
  10. What he was doing this year at the plate is odd: with that little heal-kick, is his front foot moving backwards? The whole concept of a leg kick, heal lift or slide step is to shift the weight forward. And, yeah, Santana didn't stop the hand movements at all this year. But I also have another theory: he was more successful and relaxed when playing center-field last year. Going by positional splits, it's pretty close offensively. I didn't bother to look at defense, as SS is a lot tougher than CF. Santana does have an awesome arm at SS. The Twins do have something of a shortage in the OF, until others prove themselves. As I"ve always said, I think Santana has a higher comfort level in CF and would return to his 2014 form if in CF.
  11. I rate more on the overall progress: who progressed when moving to the next level. 138 PA's for Buxton put's him 3rd in my book: #1 Kepler, #2 Berrios, #3 Buxton.
  12. I'm really not sentimental at all about the return of players who left as free agents. That was a business decision on their part, and my decision on them returning would be the same. As the Twins are well on their way to rebuilding this this team internally, with youth, I really don't see the point to Morneau's return. On the topic of "blocking": If a player is really, authentically talented, nothing blocks his promotion. Management found room for Sano, right?
  13. I see Walker on the same path as Sano: Watch for the walks. That will be the indicator he's ready. His mechanics look pretty good, in the limited amount I've seen.
  14. Since he is versatile, can he catch? Watching some YouTube videos, is PA's are half and half: he commits the lower half of his body to a swing, but not always the upper. But, geez, he's 19 and in his first year in pro ball. A lot to look forward too.
  15. "Though many believe his swing is long now". Those people do understand that Javier's just 16, right? lol Alex Meyer: I'm a little confused by "Most likely, that will now happen out of the bullpen." I completely understand the reasons behinds this, but management has been pretty clear the move to the bullpen was to help correct his delivery for a role as a starter. I'm a believer that the Twins should spend more money on International players. After reading about all the pitchers that had serious arm injuries [another one here] I'm very happy to hear about the return of Chargois.
  16. I'm going to miss Torii Hunter. And I think the Twins will, too. Yes, the years have been catching up on him, but think about this: Who else on the current roster will... Provide 22 HR's? Tied for 2nd on the team Provide clutch hitting? Provide vocal leadership? Provide a real face of the franchise? I'm of the belief the Twins can use a guy like Torii Hunter next year. Who will be that guy?
  17. Really? IMHO, Buying a skilled free agent catcher on the open market would cost far more than making a trade of a prospect for a skilled catching prospect. If they start asking about the Twins top prospects, why not?
  18. Buxton made progress: yes. However: Molitor noted the staff "saw lots of signs of improvement," isn't a ringing endorsement. Buxton's PA's were atrocious. I'm more than a little stunned that no one has taught him how to bunt. Unless there are injuries, I doubt Buxton will appear with the Twins this year. The whole "Rosaro at second base" experiment was a failure. And that answer was from an embarrassed Paul Molitor. Sano in the OF: that's just keeping options open. And it's not like the Twins have MLB OF talent ready. I didn't hear the comments, but I don't believe "Molitor quickly suggested that Eduardo Escobar is their shortstop." I believe that was statement of fact.
  19. I'd be on board with adding Pierzynski. But what's the endgame here? The only things we really know right now is Pierzynski, a good as he was last season, is very near the end of his career and Suzuki, at age 32, is being overworked because of no realistic replacement. The catchers in Seth's Top 50 Prospects list seem a couple years away. I see there's another topic on Lucroy's availability. I'm more of the mind to trade for a young and well regarded guy like Gary Sanchez or someone similar.
  20. This. This right here. Wait, what?
  21. IDK. I think I was more enthused about the previous bunch of MiLB'ers than this one.
