    I view the trade as a first step in culling the herd. Falvey and Levine have reviewed both major and minor leagues and are beginning to ship out non-performers and, in this case, acquire a prospect. Good first move. Falvey calls it "fluid situation". IMHO: tap should be pretty open.

    This is NOT a rambling, stream of consciousness. You used punctuation.... ;-) I think the acquisition of Garcia was simply an FO attempt to stop the bleeding in one rotation spot. I think Garcia has an excellent chance to do just that, this year and next, if he so chooses. A little surprised they didn't go after Neshek early for stability. Intrigued by Hildenberger and Busenitz. Also intrigued by Aaron Slegers, Stephen Gonsalves. But are they closer to a Jon Rauch / Chris Young-clone than a Randy Johnson-type? I'd promote Mitch Garver before I'd ever bring up Kennys Vargas again. Been there, done that. Always gauge the market!!

    Seems to me that a rush to be the next 100 mph pitcher is hurting the Twins MiLBers. And seeing those injuries is probably one of the reason's the new FO signed Breslow and Belisle. Are they great? No. Are they healthy, have a pulse and can still pitch? Yes. The Twins need to figure out what, specifically, is causing all these injuries. I'm with Seth: go outside the org after the McGee's, Smith's, Reed's and Shaw's of the world. Get the Jay/Chargois/Burdi's of the world on arm building work and off the 'brain dead heaver's' mentality. Sign a couple from the 1st group for stability and a couple from the 2nd [which includes the Busenitz/Curtiss/Melotakis/Rosario/Bard/Reed of a similar world] for MLB status checks. Duffey and Rogers need help. Get'er done!

    The only reason Polanco is playing SS, is because Brian Dozier is the starting second baseman. Playing at a position that you're not particularly good at would weigh heavily on anyone's mind. If the Twins what you suggested and release Polanco, 2 outcomes are fairly projectable: Polanco will be quickly picked up by a team with need for at 2nd Polanco will be relaxed again, start hitting again and become an overall asset at 2nd There will be many a session of hand-wringing and tearing of garments by TD'ers over the lose of Polanco.

    If you want to improve the Twins for a playoff run next year [Ok, let's just go with a big jump in wins] you need to be thinking bigger than trading Dozier, Kintzler or Santana. I'll speculate and say that a few upside prospects from the lower minors may be possible for each. Let's start with the basics: Which Twins player(s) would garner the largest returns? The obvious follow-up question: Would you actually trade them? That's the catch. "Sell low [Dozier, Kintzler and Santana], buy high" isn't going to happen.

    Would love to see the Twins getting Gray. So it probably won't happen... Would also like to see Twins acquiring some good veteran relief pitchers. And I won't mention Neshek again. Seriously.

    IMHO: They needed something to make the trade work. Anthony Recker is something and will be either MiLB fodder or waived.

    My takes on the acquisition of Jaime Garcia: 2) The price was right: Minnesota acquired Garcia without giving up much This is what real, professional front offices do. Terry Ryan was a heck of a talent evaluator. But otherwise... 3) Ponying up: The Twins are covering all the money. In baseball terms, a small amount of money. In Pohlad-terms, yeah, it's still money, but they approved of this move. This and the move to hire a firm to find new people to run the Twins organization are really big moves. The day's of calling the Pohland's cheap are over! Maybe. SSS and all.... 4) Message delivered: Falvey and Levine are giving a vote of confidence. Another big deal. We haven't seen this in a long time. And how about a vote of confidence for Molitor? I know there are many who criticize Molitor on a regular basis. I call it a bunch of nitpicking. This team is growing under Molitor. Or are we calling Eddie Rosario's season a fluke? Gibson has been farmed out again, this time in favor of Colon. In his last game, Gibson pitched a good game. Then started whining again. Shezzz..... Moving forward, is it Santana, Berrios, Mejia, Garcia and Colon? Surely we can go better than Colon, right?

    If you want Colon in the bullpen, here's a scenario for you: Close game, Colon is brought in with a runner on 1st. Batter lays down a bunt. What happens next? I'm gonna say; pretty ugly.

    Well, a bit of a head scratcher. On one side, Colon pitcher better. But still, a very short outing that exploded. On the other, I can't stand Gibson anymore. Given a lead, Gibson gives it right back. My vote: pick none of the above. Twins should still be shopping for pitching.

    Ynoa seems like a long ways away. Recker has bounced around a lot. Good trade, really hope this settles the backend of the rotation.

    I am. His best spot is DH. As a first-baseman, he's a statue. And let's be frank about Vargas: after an initial splash, he's not much of an advantage on the field or at the plate in an average of 52 games and 192 AB's over the past 4 years. I think it's time to move on from Vargas. Mitch Garver can easily take his place.

    Veteran team vs. young, developing team. What were the odds....... The reports I've read re: Phillies trading Neshek, is that Neshek could be had for a minor leaguer. Now, there are more teams involved. If the Twins really wanted him, it's probably too late. re: Eduardo Escobar: I wouldn't trade him. He really has value for the Twins right now.

    It's a possibility. I mean, the timing in right: competitive team's ace goes down with injuries and are looking for a capable starter to fill in for him the rest of this year. The only issue might be that Ervin has another year on his contract. May not be insurmountable. Then again, LA has the minor league players that could cause a much bigger splash.

    meh. Braves and Twins are/were just kicking the tires. News gets leaked. Other teams are asking about Garcia, too. Wash, rinse, repeat. No deal.

    The upside potential is something very real for this team as a whole. I would speculate that this alone would attract some pitching. Not the high-buck-type, but certainly some in the middle range may be interested. Going into, what?, their 3rd season together, this team could really flourish next season. With some minor tweaks. Move Polanco back to 2nd. I really like Dozier, but let's face 2 things: 1. Dozier is probably the Twins most tradeable asset 2. Polanco is much better a 2nd. Looks a lot more comfortable. 3. Putting a more defensive-minded on the field everyday would attract more pitchers Build the bullpen. Currently [and realistically] the Twins current bullpen consists of 3 people: Duffey, Rogers and Kintzler. That won't cut it another year. Get more that a couple hitters to stop swinging at balls really low/outside and REALLY outside of their reach. Get every Twins position player to attend a Fernando Tatis clinic. Worked pretty well for Sano.
