  1. My wonderment is more along the lines of: Is this a negative indictment from the Twins FO on the quality of Twins MiLB starting pitching?
  2. Kintzler trade: Couldn't / shouldn't the Twins get more than a single, 19 yr. old lefty with only 1 year and 13.2 innings pitched? Like the idea of adding Stroman. Not sure you'd be able to convince Liriano to work outta the bullpen. Bird may be out of the trade discussion for Santana. From the Post: "on June 20, received a cortisone shot in the right ankle that had been bothering the first baseman since the last week of spring training." Like the idea of adding Mateo. Niko Goodrum to the Philadelphia Phillies for RHP Pat Neshek: YES, about 100 times. Shore up the bullpen for this year and next.
  3. Well, the Astro's lineup last night had 5 players in it who are hitting over .300 and another just a few points behind. On the mound for the Twins, a young pitcher who's still trying to find his way. I was hoping for something under double digits, but Berrios isn't just quite there yet. If there was anything good coming out of this game, they didn't run out their 3 core bullpen pitchers (Duffey, Rogers and Kintler) and the number of walks they had.
  4. I don't believe that moves by other teams really affect the Twins. Falvey and Levine have enough on their plate right now in just getting them back to respectability.
  5. In his 18 year career, Wade Boggs hit double-digit homers twice. Then there's the .328 lifetime average and some Gold Gloves. People need to start moving away from the "prototypical" position playing thingy. FWIW: The times I saw Polanco playing 3rd, I thought he did a pretty good job.
  6. I love these kinds of discussions. Kinda gets the juices flowing. However, right now, the Twins are in building mode. Note: I didn't say rebuilding. There are many young plays at the MLB level, with a few veterans to back-fill in time of need. In other words: If I'm the GM, this is not the year to spend big or look at big trade scenarios. I'd be looking for the next guys to step-up and replace those fill-in veterans. Maybe there are some MiLB trades that would be helpful. Easy targets: SP and RP. And, I'm also very leery of any MLB SP that has thrown more that 200 innings over 2-3 years.
  7. Tough call. One one hand, I'd like to see more MLB development of what the Twins have on the field. Some pretty darn good things happening. On the other, I'd like to see the Twins on top of trade or two. I agree with management: no reason to chase short-term fixes. I could definitely get behind an offer of Dozier and Gordon for some quality starter, reliever and a prospect or two. Might take a 3rd team... I'd at least wait until mid-August to see what's happening here and the desperation level of teams headed towards the playoffs.
  8. How about if I changed that to "talented veteran or 2"?
  9. An awful like to like. Would like to see a veteran or 2 added. Just to see how far they could push this year in the 2nd half.
  10. So, working with Rowson is actually working?
  11. There isn't much question in my mind: Derek Falvey and Thad Levine will be looking to add talent to the MLB and MiLB rosters. And I'm reasonably sure the bait will be Buxton. I keep looking at those videos of Buxton's "highlight reel" catches. The one where he's running in, that's a great catch. The one's going towards the wall, dumb luck. Look closely at what Zack Granite does. Granite tracks the ball the entire time it's in the air, even as he hits the wall. No slamming into the wall, like Buxton. To me, the Zack Granite audition is a prelude to trading Buxton. Let someone else work that development. And, no, I'm not worried about Buxton developing into a legit All Star. Twins need better prospects for the future as a team.
  12. Great catch. Watching the replays, Granite tracked the ball the entire way, including a second or 2 before hitting the wall. That's what you're supposed to do. I don't think Buxton makes that catch. He's still running on physical skills. P.S. Are we done with Gibson yet? His 'moments' are becoming few and far between.
  13. SHABBY?? I thought people were saying Shaggy! http://statici.behindthevoiceactors.com/behindthevoiceactors/_img/chars/shaggy-rogers-scooby-doo-on-zombie-island-11.9.jpg Thanks for clearing that up.
  14. I still have question marks on Gibbson, Mejia and Santiago. Other than that, the rest of the rotation is great! LOL
  15. Don't look now, but Buxton has a 4 game hitting streak going. 3 of the 4 are multi-hit games.
  16. This team seems like a bunch of fighters. Yeah, there are some real cluster flops, but plenty of good, too. Very happy to read that Felix Jorge is getting another start. I just don't have much confidence in Santiago. On Buxton's recent surge at the plate: I highly recommend reading Brandon's article "Twins Hitting Coach James Rowson Clarifies Hitting Plan for Byron Buxton". One more edit [ #3 ]: really need to see some more of those MiLB RP arms. can't keep wearing out Duffy, Taylor and Kintzler.
  17. Gotta give these guys some credit. They're fighters! Berrios fought back and the hits started falling in when needed. I also read your article: "Twins Hitting Coach James Rowson Clarifies Hitting Plan for Byron Buxton". Very insightful! Buxton is now up to .214 with a couple multi-hit games in his back pocket. Would love to see more walks in there, but, ya know, baby steps. What happened to the link for the "MWS: Talking Byron Buxton’s Approach with Twins Hitting Coach James Rowson" video?? Not working for me...
  18. As I remember the situation, the catcher makes a quick throw to the pitcher.
  19. Wow, Buxton has 2 more hits yesterday? That's a trend up!
  20. I highly endorse the acquisition of both of these 2 very, very fine assets. Mixing both in with Rogers, Duffey and Kintzler would make quite a group! First, I'll temper my recommendations on this: I don't really, really know the Twins prospects all that well. Just what I read here, mostly. If I'm getting both, I'd wouldn't hesitate to dip into MiLB prospect pool. Neshek: Vielma? Hildenberger? Hand: wouldn't be surprised if Gordon's name comes up. If I could get the Padres off that, I'd try Gonsalve + Granite and see what happens.
  21. Nice to see Buxton having a nice day at the plate. Gibson was a big surprise, at least to me. Message to both: Let's see you do it again.
  22. Honestly, what is it that people see in Aaron Slegers? I'm reading stuff that says he's a tall, soft tossing righthander, who tops out as a back-of-the-rotation starter. Are we really talking about another Jon Rauch? Good enough to stick around? And if Gonsalves is so good, why hasn't he been called up? I just see not future for Santiago with the Twins. With his words and poor pitching, he's just not the guy I'd want around. Gibson had a nice start yesterday. Maybe more haircuts for everyone? LOL Gibson just had a good start. Let's see it again.
  23. Just some thoughts: Happy to see Mejia getting into a groove Hoping whatever is affecting Duffey can be fixed. More options? Better options? Always though Eduardo Escobar could hit with consistent AB's Would still like to see Alex Meyer succeed Would like to see Kyle Gibson gone, baby, gone MiLB pitchers: Next?? Kennys Vargas: is this the end? Is it just my eyes, or does that Twins boxscore AVG line seem higher?
